Larsson had asked for a move after the Blues rejected offers from Aston Villa, Blackburn and West Ham. The midfielder spoke to Newcastle about a proposed move, but terms could not be agreed and since Birmingham rejected all other avenues, Larsson put in a transfer request in a bid to move away from St. Andrew’s.

Larsson’s agent Per Johnson has launched into a blistering attack on Birmingham City over the treatment he feels they have inflicted onto the 25 year old wideman, brandishing the club unclassy and telling them they ‘need to sharpen up a bit’.

Johnson said: ‘The reason why the request was put in was as a protest at the way Seb has been treated. Birmingham have treated Seb like cattle. Going backwards and forward four times is not acceptable.’

Larsson’s agent reported that the Blues wanted to get rid of the midfielder in pre-season and then made a u-turn and offered Larsson a new contract. Then, Birmingham boss Alex McLeish said he wanted to extend the deal, but Per Johnson has stated that they were e-mailed with a offer from Newcastle.

The plug was pulled on all talks with Newcastle, after terms weren’t agreed between the two clubs, and Birmingham have since decided that they want to keep the Swede. Larsson and his agent are said to be fuming over the back and forth movements from the football club and want a quick way out, with a number of Premiership and Championship clubs lining up to offer the midfielder, signed from Arsenal in 2007, a way out of St. Andrew’s.

Fancy a flutter?
