Everyone loves a good goal…except of course the poor sucker of a keeper who has just lost out on his clean sheet bonus!

Rovers make the short trip across to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon and are likely to return with nothing but their tails between their legs. A failure to get any points from their clash against the champions will continue to leave them in the relegation zone, although this player reckons they are just keeping 18th spot warm for someone else at the moment. Leaving aside the fact that this source incorrectly states that Saturday’s match took place at the Ricoh Arena, could this man be responsible for Blackburn’s continued participation in the hallowed competition?
That’s certainly the opinion of Coventry’s Michael Doyle, who reckons that the chubby rose-giver (pictured in the Daily Telegraph) was an inconvenience that the Sky Blues could have done without. He reckons that without the intervention of the said streaker, Chris Coleman’s side could already be looking at a money-spinning home tie with Chelsea.
“We could have done without him,” admitted Doyle. “If he hadn’t come on, we’d have seen out the three minutes added time for all the subs.”
While Blackburn will refute the suggestion that the idiot on the pitch kept their FA Cup dreams alive, we’ll never know whether things might have been different on Saturday had he decided to keep his clothes on and his flowers to himself!

Talk is cheap, although there’s a lot of it at White Hart Lane, which has been a hive of activity this week. No sooner had Robbie Keane flounced off to Liverpool for £20 million, Spurs were reinvesting the lion’s share of their cash on Blackburn winger David Bentley for £15 million. Here’s another player who isn’t short of confidence, immediately making a statement of intent which might be of interest to fans of former club Arsenal. [Read the rest of this entry »]
Paul Robinson is a character in Neighbours who doesn’t seem to be very popular, and his footballing namesake knows how that feels after last season. Dropped by his club and country, it was truly a campaign to forget for the former Leeds goalkeeper, who has gone from hero to zero in a very short space of time. Can he resurrect his career at Blackburn? [Read the rest of this entry »]
Newcastle supporters have waited around for what seems like an eternity (two years to be exact) for a certain winger to get his game back to where it was when he first arrived. After holding out hope, Newcastle finally seemed reserved to the fact that he’s not going to come around anytime soon. They’re hoping his former club will take him off their hands in a swap for a left-back that could really shine at Tyneside. [Read the rest of this entry »]
Roque Santa Cruz was an inspired purchase by Mark Hughes while he was at Blackburn last summer. Will the Welshman be doing exactly the same thing for Manchester City? [Read the rest of this entry »]
Never has there been a summer where clubs are not prepared to let players leave until they have found a suitable replacement. Sometimes it’s been the opposite, where clubs can’t buy a transfer target until they have the cash from a player sale. It all appears to have worked out for Blackburn and Aston Villa, who have landed themselves new goalkeepers ahead of the new season. Perhaps fans of the latter have more reason to be cheerful! As we’ve learnt this summer, a player wanting to leave a football club does not mean it’s going to happen. After all, unless they are out of contract (in which case the world is their oyster), a bidder has to meet their current club’s valuation. In the case of Blackburn and [Read the rest of this entry »]
Well you can stop the rumours about David Bentley going to Villa. After much talk and discussion last week, Villa boss Martin O’Neill has been resigned to the fact that the Blackburn man can’t be part of the picture next year. However, that doesn’t mean the club doesn’t have a backup option. [Read the rest of this entry »]
It might surprise you to hear that out of the three players for which Blackburn have recently received a bid, none of them have been for striker Roque Santa Cruz. Which has got to be a good thing as far as Rovers fans are concerned, although they do have a battle on their hands if they’re to keep hold of all current squad members.
