Some have gone as far as to claim that fifteen teams could be relegated from the Premier League this season, especially with West Brom, Hull and Stoke all putting up a decent fight. Clubs seem to be scrambling over each other to avoid sitting in the drop zone, with Tottenham still bottom of the table despite a recent resurgence. [Read the rest of this entry »]
The Daily Mail reports that Bolton Wanderers have bagged Levante striker Mustapha Riga, but might have to partake in some legal malarkey in order to push the signing through.
According to the Mail’s press hounds:
“Riga is in dispute with his Spanish club after they failed to pay his wages for nine months.
“He has penned a two-year deal with Bolton on the proviso he can join them as a free transfer.
“Levante want a fee of £500,000 and the matter is expected to end up before a judge before his future is decided.” (Daily Mail)
Riga was one of the few rays of light in the pretty rancid Levante side last year, so even if Gary Megson and his Bolton boys have to cough up a few more readies, then it still looks to be a good deal.
Roy Keane wasn’t joking when, at the end of last season, he told reporters that he needed a large influx of players to ensure his team continued to survive in the Premier League. The Irishman seems to be set on signing an entirely new team at the moment, with a new face coming in every other day at the Stadium of Light. This latest purchase might split opinion among the Wearside faithful. [Read the rest of this entry »]
New Golden Gloves champion, Joey Barton, is set to be released from jail this week after serving time for beating a man senseless outside of a McDonald’s in the centre of Liverpool. He’s probably spending some time right now preparing himself for what should be an interesting sit-down meeting with his current employer when he gets out of the clink. Arsenal begin the season by hosting West Brom, Liverpool travel to Sunderland, Tottenham make the long trip to Middlesbrough. Yes it’s fixture list day! You can spend the whole day debating possible debauched weekends up north or when your play your local rivals.

It’s entirely possible that Sam Allardyce is in pole position to become the next manager of Blackburn Rovers. After all, he has been interviewed at Ewood Park about the position and has demonstrated his prowess in the Premier League with Bolton. Some might argue he might have done well at St James’ Park if he’d been given the opportunity, although that was cut short by some fickle fans and an owner who knows less about football than my great aunt. This Spurs man seems set to leave WHL, but should Juande Ramos battle to keep him at the club?
Bolton are ready to battle it out with Newcastle and Aston Villa for Tottenham’s £4m-rated defender Michael Dawson. (Various)
Whilst Dawson isn’t the most subtle defender and may not have the greatest turn of speed, he does give 100% pretty much every time he pulls on the club shirt, which is something a few of his teammates have been accused of not managing. Clearly reinforcements are needed at the back, but should Michael Dawson make way? What do Spurs fans think?
