Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua have claimed they are in talks to sign Chelsea striker Didier Drogba.

The 33-year-old rejected a one-year contract extension at Chelsea and has been linked with a move to China.

“Everything is going well so far, though there have been a few obstacles,” said Shenhua board member Zhou Jun.

Last month, striker Nicolas Anelka quit Stamford Bridge for Shenhua when he signed for a two-year deal.

Rival Chinese club Dalian Aerbin were reported to have offered the Ivory Coast international wages of £200,000 a week but Shenhua have now joined the chase.

“It’s like flirting with a girl,” said Shenhua spokesman Zhu Jun about the pursuit of Drogba on the Chinese equivalent of Twitter. “Perhaps she will resist you at first, but if you continue to ask her out, it always ends well. Never give up.”

Now this is a little creepy. Basically Shanghai Shenhua spokesman Zhu Jun is adopting an openly stalker like approach to the club’s pursuit of Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, a pursuit that does appear to be gaining some genuine momentum. Having signed Nicolas Anelka the Chinese side clearly feel they are in a position to lure another Stamford Bridge forward to the Far East.

However it would probably be best if Mr. Zhu Jun refrains from making odd, and scary, analogies about his side’s pursuit of big name players, indeed he’s come up with another one already.

Zhu also told the Shanghai Daily: “It’s like making a blockbuster film.

“When superstars like Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Zhou Xun have confirmed their participation, other actors and actress will be confident of the movie.”

Sooner or later he will opt for the analogy that fits but until he does he may wish to just cover the topic like a normal human being would.

After the Dutchman’s second goal, which put Arsenal 4-3 up at Stamford Bridge, Van Persie touched his shoulder with his right hand before raising it to the air.

The 28-year-old was horrified to learn of internet speculation his celebration was a Nazi salute.

“It has been brought to my attention of some ridiculous allegations concerning my celebration of one of my goals yesterday,” he said on Twitter.

“It is totally ludicrous to suggest that my action of brushing my shoulder and pointing to my fans could be construed as anything else but of a showing of joy and celebration.

“To suggest this meant anything to the contrary is insulting and absolutely absurd as nothing else came into my mind.”

Foreign Premier League club owners are trying to put an end to relegation from the top flight, according to League Managers Association (LMA) chief Richard Bevan.

The controversial plan has been discussed up and down the country with fears growing that if more clubs fall into the hands of  owners from overseas they could get enough votes to force a change.

Nearly half of the Premier League’s 20 clubs are under foreign ownership, with rules stipulating changes can only be made to the format if 14 clubs vote in favour of any new reforms.

Blackburn joined the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Chelsea in this class when they were taken over by Venky’s Group last season.

But Bevan hopes a government-led inquiry can help prevent the proposal.

“We’re very keen that the report is successful in helping the Football Association introduce a licensing programme for clubs,” he said.

“Because there are a number of overseas-owned clubs already talking about bringing about the avoidance of promotion and relegation in the Premier League.

“If we have four or five more new owners, that could happen.”

Blackburn Rovers have appointed Paul Clement as their new assistant coach to help under-fire manager Steve Kean.

The 39-year-old will take up his position immediately and replaces John Jensen, who left Steve Kean’s coaching staff at the end of last month.

Clement had two spells at Chelsea, including being the assistant first-team coach to Carlo Ancelotti.

He also spent seven years at Fulham, with Kean, and three years as the Republic of Ireland U21 coach.

Clement, who left Chelsea this summer after the arrival of Andre Villas-Boas, told Blackburn’s website:

“I’m excited to be here at a big club like Blackburn Rovers and am really looking forward to the challenge.

“It’s great to be linking up with Steve again, having worked with him previously at Fulham, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Kean added: “I’m delighted that Paul has agreed to join us. He is someone I know well and respect as a coach and will be on the bench with me at QPR tomorrow.”

Blackburn are second-bottom of the Premier League standings heading into their trip to QPR having picked up four points from their opening seven games.

Chelsea are to make a £15million bid for Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin in January and will fund the deal by selling Alex to Arsenal.

The Blues tried to sign the Uruguay international 12 months ago before moving for David Luiz but will try again to seal his signature.

Manager Andre Villas-Boas wants four top class centre-halves and insists the 25-year-old will complement Luiz, captain JohnTerry and Branislav Ivanovic.

AVB has not been impressed with Alex since returning to the club last summer and is ready to move the 29-year-old on.

The Brazilian has not played since his sending off against Fulham in the Carling Cup and did not even make the 20-man squad for the Champions League trip to Valencia.

Arsenal and Spurs could make a bid for Alex, while Russian big-spenders Anzhi Makhachkala and Terek Grozny are both interested, according to the Sun.

Meanwhile forward Daniel Sturridge is not concerned by not having won an England cap yet and is focused on playing for Chelsea.

“If England comes and I play for England then great,” Sturridge said.

“But I am not really worried about playing for England – it is not something I am really stressing about.

“My main focus is to play for Chelsea every week and if I can do that then I am happy.

“It has been a long time I have been playing at Chelsea now and I have not been playing regularly so for me the most important thing is to be playing regularly.

“I could play a lot better than I am and I am getting used to the position out wide. I enjoy playing there.”

Chelsea have offered striker Salomon Kalou a new contract to try and prevent him moving to Liverpool.

The 26-year-old has entered the final year of his current deal but manager Andre Villas-Boas wants to prolong his stay in west London.

The Ivory Coast international signed from Feyenoord in 2006 for £8million and has since made 146 Premier League appearances for the club, scoring 35 goals.

But he has been a substitute in 57 of those games, with the forward starting just twice in the league under Villas-Boas so far this season.

It is for this reason Kalou is looking at other options as he wants to be more than just a squad player with Liverpool keen to give him the opportunity he craves.

But Villas-Boas is keen to tie down Kalou on extended terms, along with Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka.

“Kalou was offered a contract and hopefully we will continue talks,” AVB told the club’s website. “In January these players are available to discuss their future.

“We’ll continue talks until we reach an agreement or not.

“The fact that they are emotionally tied to this club – like Nico [Anelka] – too, means we can count on them while they are negotiating.

“Their loyalty to the club will never be in question.”

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is willing to go through pain to help his side win silverware this season.

The 18-year-old had an impressive run-out in the Carling Cup win over Fulham on Wednesday night when the Blues were down to 10 men.

The Belgium international revealed how a pep talk from captain and fellow lifelong Blues fan John Terry helped him dig even deeper when cramp began to set in.

“He said I had to keep going because the team needed me,” Lukaku said. ”I know I have to suffer if I am to win things. I have to go through pain.

“Chelsea has a winning culture so if, I have to suffer to win something, I prefer to suffer.”

Terry came off the bench on Wednesday after Alex was sent off, with Frank Lampard also thrown on for the injured Daniel Sturridge.

Their introduction bolstered a youthful team which needed all the experience it could muster to avoid crashing out.

Lukaku was relieved to be able to lean on the older heads, both on and off the field.

“The experienced lads are helping us, like against Fulham,” he said.

“John Terry, Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba were always speaking to us before the game and also at half-time.

“They keep us sharp also in training and we’re happy to train with those guys.”

Tottenham Hotspur legend Ossie Ardiles says manager Harry Redknapp can do nothing to prevent midfielder Luka Modric from leaving.

Chelsea had three bids rejected for the 26-year-old in the summer, with even a deadline day £40million offer turned down.

The Croatia international begged the club to let him go but the Spurs chairman Daniel Levy refused all advances.

Chelsea signed Raul Meireles from Liverpool instead but Ardiles insists he cannot see Modric staying beyond the end of the season.

“In my time, when all the power was with the chairman or with the club, you could stop players leaving,” he said.

“If a player wanted to leave, at the end of the day, he could not leave.

“Right now, with all the power in the player’s hands, you cannot possibly stop that. If Luka Modric, or whoever, wants to leave the club, he will.

“Of course it will affect him when suddenly you are going to be earning a lot more money, you are going to be playing in the Champions League.

“You would not be human if you are not unsettled after that. Saying that, he realises it’s not going to happen right now.

“So these months for him before January are going to be incredibly crucial. I think he’s going to give everything he has and we’re going to be the beneficiaries of that.

“And, of course, he will benefit as well because he may have a transfer in January or he may in July.”
