Corinthians are still interested in signing Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez, according to the club’s sporting director Edu.

The Brazilian side failed to sign the 27-year-old in the summer after it was revealed they could not afford his £40million transfer fee.

The Argentina international is currently suspended by the Blues after refusing to come off the bench during their 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich.

Edu, who played for Arsenal between 2001-05, was back in London last week for the Leaders in Football conference at Stamford Bridge.

While there he did meet with Tevez’s advisor Kia Joorabchian but the pair did not speak specifically about the player.

But Edu has now suggested the Brazilians could be back in the reckoning to re-sign their former player.

“It was quite difficult to sign him because at the time it was shortly before our transfer window,” he told Sky Sports.

“Now we are here [in England] and we will talk and see what the situation is and we will look to sign him in the summer.

“I will talk to the president – we offered £40million and now the money we had we have spent some of as that is football.

“We want to see how Tevez is and what his situation is, we will see if we can do a deal – he is very famous in Brazil and everyone loves him, and the fans want him.”

Carlos Tevez’s move from Manchester City to Corinthians has fallen through because the Brazilian club pulled out.

City thought a £40m deal had been agreed for the Argentine striker after he told the Premier League outfit he wanted to return to South America.

But Corinthians said there was not enough time to sign the the 27-year-old before the Brazilian transfer window closes at 0400 BST on Thursday.

Corinthians still want Tevez and hinted an agreement can be reached in January.

It had appeared that the former West Ham forward had got his wish for a transfer but then in a statement, Corinthians said: “The board of Sporting Club Corinthians hereby officially announce the impossibility of hiring the Argentine striker Carlos Tevez.”

Ah, this leaves Carlos Tevez with a bit of a problem. You see the Brazilian transfer window slams shuts today and no deal has been done and is unlikely to be done today leaving the Man City player in something of an awkward position.

Corinthians have stated that they are ready to pick up on the proposed transfer again in January but that would mean the Argentine would have to spend half a season at a club he has made it perfectly clear he doesn’t want to play for.

This could of course pave the way for another offer with the likes of Real Madrid and Inter Milan said to be interested but moves to Spain and Italy would in many ways make Mr. Tevez look like a liar as he has stated all along that his intention to leave the Etihad Stadium is due only to the fact that he wants to be nearer to his family, who live in Argentina.

Now Brazil is a lot nearer to Argentina than England but Madrid and Milan are not much nearer. We even did some investigating into just this fact.

What are the odds that Mr. Tevez pursues a move to continental Europe and that his ‘excuse’ for wanting to leave Manchester City is in fact an elaborate, and not very subtle, ruse? Clearly this is something the 27 year old striker would never do, it’s not like he has ever demanded a move before…Oh hang on, this is a player who demanded Corinthians let him leave for West Ham all those years ago!

Corinthians have today denied reaching an agreement to sign Manchester City captain Carlos Tevez.

Blues manager Roberto Mancini had confirmed there was an “agreement” between the two clubs for the transfer pending the Argentinian securing his personal terms.

“At the moment we have an agreement with Corinthians, but Carlos now is still a City player,” Mancini told Sky Sports.

But Corinthians president Andres Sanchez denied any such agreement had been reached, saying City “did not accept Corinthians’ proposal for the footballer”.

“For the moment there is nothing concrete on Tevez and the counter-proposal will be examined (by Sanchez) and the board,” the club said.

According to Sanchez, City sent Corinthians a counter-proposal in which “it asks for changes in the form of payment and the total value of the transaction.

“Furthermore, Manchester City insisted that Tevez renounce a sum outstanding with the English club”.

The news will come as embarrassment for City as Mancini has already identified the player he wants to replace the Premier League joint top goalscorer from last season.

The Italian wants to buy Atletico Madrid striker Sergi Aguero for £35million but he faces competition from Real Madrid.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has said that an agreement has been reached for the sale of Argentina striker Carlos Tevez to Corinthians.

A £39m bid from the Brazilian club was rejected last week, with City believed to be holding out for £50m.

Tevez, 27, had said he wanted to leave the Premier League outfit to spend more time with his family in his homeland.

“We have an agreement with Corinthians but Carlos now is still a City player,” Mancini told Sky Sports News.

The Sao Paulo club, backed by revenue from a new television deal, want to make Tevez a landmark signing by taking him back to the club where he previously enjoyed success.

Having stated that he wanted to leave Man City to be nearer his family he has now secured a move back to his former club Corinthians, a club he angered when he demanded to be allowed to leave to move to the Premier League back in 2006, yes there is a theme developing here.

The 27 year old may well be the most disloyal footballer on Planet Earth and that is no idle boast. Having moved to West Ham Tevez then helped keep the Hammers clear of relegation and moved on to Man United where he was initially a success but then lost his regular starting spot and then left for arch rivals and Man City and after a couple of consistent seasons is now set to move on again.

Roberto Mancini will sorely miss the Buenos Aires born striker who hit 52 goals in two seasons and helped the club to reach the Champions League and now the Italian must look to find an adequate replacement with Atletico Madrid’s Sergio Aguero reportedly being uppermost in his thoughts.

Manchester City captain Carlos Tevez is determined to quit the club and re-join Coritnthians in a £40million move, according to his agent Kia Joorabchian.

The 27-year-old has already declared he wants to be closer to his family in Argentina but City were prepared to play hard ball over a transfer fee.

The Blues value Tevez at around £50million, and with potential suitors in Spain and Italy apparently showing little sign they are willing to spend that much, any move was looking unlikely.

But the Argentina international is so desperate to make the move happen, he will personally drive any deal.

It is thought the massive transfer fee would be funded through sponsorship and money from TV rights.

Tevez has scored 53 goals in 86 appearances for City since joining them in 2009 and skippered them to FA Cup glory and Champions League qualification last season.

Joorabchian says Tevez has set his heart on a return to the club he left to join West Ham five years ago, but claims there are European clubs on his trail too.

“His dream and mine is to see him back with Corinthians,” Joorabchian said.

“He said he has a job that does not end there. He wants to return because he has the dream of winning the Copa Libertadores.

“The priority is Corinthians, but we have other options.

“Carlos was the best player in the Premier League (last season), he was the top scorer of the team for two consecutive years, he won the FA Cup.

“He has much appeal in the European market. He is no longer a boy, today he is a great player.

“Carlos will not play for any other Brazilian club than Corinthians, that is an absolute certainty,” Joorabchian added.

“Boca Juniors and Corinthians are in his heart. He would only play for these two clubs if he when back to Brazil and Argentina.”

The 27-year-old’s advisor claims the player is helping drive the deal as he wants to be closer to his family, in particular his two daughters.

A move to a club in Europe appeared Tevez’s only option but last night rumours emerged Corinthians wanted to re-sign a player who played for them between January 2005 and August 2006.

“Corinthians made the offer, now it depends only on Manchester City. City have to make a decision,” Joorabchian told ESPN.

“Everybody is working to make this happen, me, Corinthians, Tevez and Adrian Ruocco (another of Tevez’s representatives).

“It is impossible to determine the situation, but I think it’s close.”

Carlos Tevez says he would be happy to return to Corinthians after the Brazilian club tabled a £40million offer for the Manchester City striker.

Tevez, dropped for Argentina’s 3-0 Copa America win over Costa Rica on Monday, declared earlier this month that he wished to leave City for the sake of his family.

With none of Europe’s leading clubs apparently interested in spending the £50million City suggested was the fee they would expect for their captain, it was starting to look like Tevez might spend next season at the renamed Etihad Stadium after all.

However, now has come news of Corinthians’ interest with Tevez telling Telefe: “If there is interest, I don’t have any problem in returning to Corinthians.”

Tevez used to play for the Brazilian outfit before heading to West Ham five years ago – the start of a turbulent spell in England that has also involved two seasons at both Manchester clubs.

It is thought the massive transfer fee, almost treble the club record £13.7million that got him to the club in 2005, would be funded through sponsorship and money from a new TV rights deal in Brazil.

The director of Corinthians, Duilio Montero said: “We have the intension and we will work hard for aming the dream come true”.

This could be a good test of Carlos Tevez’s real intentions. The Man City striker has stated that his desire to leave the Premier League side is so that he can be nearer his family which then makes a mockery of moves to continental sides Real Madrid and Inter Milan, given that neither club would bring him any nearer to his loved ones, based in Argentina.

Now an offer from Corinthians, a club that Tevez spent 18 months at before moving to West Ham, may tempt the 27 year old and the Brazilian club appear able to offer a significant fee to bring the striker to Sao Paulo.

Tevez helped the Corinthians to Campeonato Brasileiro success in 2005 and it will be interesting to see if the Etihad Stadium side are willing to accept an offer that still fails to meet their apparent £50m valuation.

Roberto Mancini is looking for adequate replacements for Tevez and seems to want further striking signings despite have Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko to hand. Emmanuel Adebayor is set for a huge fine after refusing to turn up to train with the club’s second string. The likes of Craig Bellamy Jo, Roque Santa Cruz and Jo are all expected to leave this summer.
