Sunderland Keeper Craig Gordon Pulls off Save of the Season (Video)

by Mad Dog and Glory on December 19th, 2010 6 comments

Now some are claiming this save is of Gordon Banks 1970 comparisons but perhaps we shouldn’t get that carried away. This is a damn fine stop by the Scottish international but he was always moving in the right direction. That said, Craig Gordon shows great reflexes and strength to both reach the ball and to scoop it over the bar. Worth noting however that the referee appears to have given a foul or something anyway as no corner was given.

Sunderland manager plans training with All Blacks

by stresster on April 8th, 2008 no comments

If you see the likes of Kenwyne Jones and Craig Gordon lining up to do the haka before next season’s derby with Newcastle United, there will be an explanation for it. The Australian Daily Telegraph reports that Sunderland manager Roy Keane is going to be hooking up with the New Zealand rugby union team over the summer in an attempt to learn some motivational techniques to bestow upon his players back home. What’s the betting that the All Blacks don’t also learn a thing or two from the Irish firebrand?

“I have the green light to have three or four days with them,” he said.

“I don’t know if I will be allowed into any team talks. I’ll keep my head down and just watch them, try to plug into what they are always about.”

Keane said he had always been fascinated by the All Blacks’ pre-match haka.

“If the haka didn’t inspire you before a game, what could?”

Keane has certainly mellowed out since his playing days at Manchester United, although he’s not averse to leaving players behind if they’ve been late for the coach, or dropping players from the squad if they’ve not shown a satisfactory attitude. It seems to have done the trick, with Sunderland pulling away from the drop zone after three consecutive wins in the league, will they now kick on and become the number one club in the north-east?

Sunderland goalie: ‘Home form will save us’

by sub on March 4th, 2008 no comments

Why do you think that Sunderland can survive in the English Premier League for one more season at least?

Now, no need to scratch you head to dig out the reason. Sunderland custodian Craig Gordon answers the question:

It was always going to be close on Saturday (against fellow relegation candidates Derby County) because of the way it’s gone for both sides.

As a defence, we’ve kept our side of the bargain with the clean sheet and that at least is something to be happy with.

But we felt we had the chances to win the game and we’ve come away disappointed not to have got the three points. It was a good opportunity to do that.

The table is tighter again and a couple of the results made it even closer between a group of eight or nine of us in the bottom half of the table.

We have a couple of tough games at home now, but with our home record and our crowd we have to have the belief that we can do well in these games.

Sunderland indeed have good home form. The Black Cats have won 7 of their 13 matches at the Stadium of Light this season but manager Roy Keane would definitely like to alter his team’s abysmal away record in the Premiership.
