Tottenham Hotspur manager Juande Ramos has taken his time, but he has finally turned his eye back to his old club. The Spaniard has cast a look over a few members of his ex-Sevilla team and finally made a move this week.
Ramos submitted a bid for 20-year-old wiger Diego Capel, who is valued at around £14million. Sevilla showed they had no intention of letting one of their prize assests move to White Hart Lane by rejecting the bid.
Capel has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave should an offer of a certain value come in, but this applies only to Spanish clubs, meaning the Rojiblancos were free to bat away Tottenham’s advances, as president Jose Maria del Nido told the club’s official website:
He has a clause in his contract which is only valid for a Spanish team.
We do not negotiate with any figure less than that. Tottenham made a superior bid and we said no.
Capel is highly regarded at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, but it is thought that he does have his price. Ramos will have to go higher than the reported £12m bid he lodged this week to capture one of the youngsters that flourished under his guidance.

The Daily Mail reports that Tottenham Hotspur manager Juande Ramos will be handed a hefty sum of £40 million in the summer to try and transform the team into a genuine English Premier League title contenders. It is reported that Ramos will be trickled in with the money during the summer and that the former FC Sevilla coach will be looking towards his native Spain to import new players for next season.
The likes of striker Albert Riera of Espanyol Barcelona and Sevilla’s young winger Diego Capel are a the top of the wish-list which also included Portsmouth’s David James and Real Zaragoza’s Diego Milito. A host of other players’ names too are being thrown into the hat.
Yet even if Spurs manage to lure top quality players in the summer, it is really tough to believe that Spurs can become genuine title contenders overnight. Of course with the extra injection of cash and with Ramos at the helm, Spurs do have a great future but the north London club have to take it one step at a time and not rush the whole process.

Everyone knows about the North London rivalry that exists between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur and now everyone will know that they are set to battle for the 19-year old Sevilla left back Diego Capel.
This report suggests that the Gunners are preparing a £8 million bid for the Spanish Under20 international in the summer. Capel is one of the most gifted individuals in the Spanish game and Spurs were linked to the player in the month of January.
But now Arsenal appear to have shot themselves into the race. With Spurs going through a difficult patch and the Gunners on the up, it wouldn’t be hard for anyone to guess which club would Capel choose. But Spurs have Juande Ramos as their manager and maybe he could lure Capel to White Hart Lane.
