Bolton are hovering just a point from Premier League safety right now, although they could be about to make the sort of signing that will not only bolster a flagging strikeforce, but also lift morale around the club. Sky Sports report that Trotters manager Gary Megson is doing all he can to bring Eidur Gudjohnsen back to the club, albeit on loan from Barcelona.
“It’s something we’ve looked at to see if we can do it,” Megson told reporters.
“Eidur’s a big ask, but if it suits everybody, we’d like to do it. He’s the type of player we’re looking for to help us get out of our situation.
“It’s one of those where you need to be lucky.
“We’ve got people working for us to see if it’s a goer and we’ll keep going right until the transfer window closes.”
Since the signing of Thierry Henry last summer, opportunities have been limited for the Icelandic striker, who spent two years with Bolton until 2000 when he signed for Chelsea. Gudjohnsen then scored 54 goals in 126 league starts for the Blues before heading to Spain. Could he be the difference between the club staying up or returning to the Championship?
