Worrying news for Spurs fans, especially with no real alternative to the current man between the sticks – at least not for another six weeks. It appears that opposition teams have cottoned on to the fact that Tottenham have a very obvious weak link in the team. [Read the rest of this entry »]

Harry Redknapp arrived at White Hart Lane knowing full well that he couldn’t make any changes to his squad for several months. While many of us are speculating (wildly as usual) whether Tottenham can finish in the top four next season (the top half would be a good start), others are setting their sights much higher. That includes one of Spurs’ summer recruits, who goes by the name of Heurelho Gomes, and clearly needs the ambition kicking out of him at White Hart Lane. [Read the rest of this entry »]

Spurs stopper keen on Villa switch

After losing his way through most of last season, Tottenham Hotspur’s ex-number one is casting his eye elsewhere after the signing of Heurelho Gomes from PSV Eindhoven, with Aston Villa his preferred destination.

Despite them not actually indicating they’d like to sign him, Paul Robinson has made it clear he wants to move to Villa Park to resurrect his career after such a fall down the White Hart Lane pecking order during most of the 2007/08 season.

Martin O’Neill is known to be looking for a keeper after Liverpool’s stubborness over Scott Carson and the release of Thomas Sorensen. Enquiries were made about Celtic’s Polish stopper Artur Boruc, but the Villans halted talks once the Bhoys quoted a £15m asking price, so Robinson appears to be a cheaper alternative.

And if they were to make a move, ‘Robbo’ would jump at the chance. A source close to him said:

Paul would welcome the opportunity to move to a club like Aston Villa.

He believes Martin O’Neill can help to bring the best out of him. He realises his chances of playing regularly at Tottenham look unlikely.

He feels such a move would help to resurrect his career.

Having seen many Aston Villa players receive call-ups to the England squad recently, perhaps Robinson sees Villa Park as the perfect destination to get some playing time and get noticed by Fabio Capello?
