Birmingham sign Hibernian defender David Murphy

Buzz It
no comments by sub on January 18th, 2008

Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish is making every move he can to sustain the Blues in the English Premier League next season. And one such move is to sign defenders to stop the rot at the back.

Sky Sports reports that Birmingham have signed defender David Murphy from Hibernian for £1.5 million on a three-and-a-half year contract. Murphy’s advent into the Premiership would not be the first time that he would play in England’s top flight since he already featured for Middlesbrough before moving to Hibs. But the 23-year old would certainly try and prove himself in his second coming to the Premiership since he was largely considered a misfit in his first spell.

Manager McLeish himself is quite enthusiastic about Murphy’s worth and says:

He’s a player I’ve admired for a long time and I made enquiries to see if he had any Scottish blood in him when I had the Scotland job because we would have certainly brought him into the fold with the national team given the displays that we saw up there.

Well, good luck to David Murphy and more importantly to Birmingham.

Hibs Manager Quits–For Scotland? Or Fulham?

Buzz It
1 comment by soccersource on December 20th, 2007

Watch Fulham live online

John Collins has resigned his post as Hibernian manager effective immediately. The former Scotland international informed his players of the decision last night, according to the BBC.

Collins took charge at Easter Road last October as the replacement for Tony Mowbray, who had departed for West Bromwich Albion. Under Collins’ tutorship Hibs won its first major championship–the CIS Insurance Cup–this Spring. The Edinburgh side are currently fifth in the SPL.

The former Scotland international is reportedly on the short list to replace Alex McLeish as well as Laurie Sanchez at Fulham–the club where Collins finished his playing career in 2003.
