“Lots of teams to be involved in relegation battle” claims Everton manager: Will your club be one of them?

by stresster on November 7th, 2008 2 comments

Some have gone as far as to claim that fifteen teams could be relegated from the Premier League this season, especially with West Brom, Hull and Stoke all putting up a decent fight. Clubs seem to be scrambling over each other to avoid sitting in the drop zone, with Tottenham still bottom of the table despite a recent resurgence. [Read the rest of this entry »]

Newcastle, Tottenham, Stoke, Fulham, Bolton, Everton: Which three teams will be relegated this season?

by stresster on October 6th, 2008 8 comments

There may have only been seven matches played this season in the Premier League (six if you’re Manchester United or Fulham), but there are some unlikely names assembling in the bottom half dozen of the table. While Newcastle residing in the lower half of the table isn’t a great surprise this term, to see the Magpies joining Tottenham at the very foot of the division is something of a shock. Will they still be there come May? [Read the rest of this entry »]

Tottenham manager defends decision to make seven changes to team: Is he the new tinkerman?

by stresster on October 3rd, 2008 3 comments

Poor old Juande Ramos. He’s been getting it in the neck from reporters and a minority of fans this season, as his Tottenham team struggle to get going without the likes of Berbatov and Keane. Never mind that they are through to the UEFA Cup group stages, the Spaniard is still being quizzed as to why he keeps chopping and changing his team so much. [Read the rest of this entry »]

Will Hull, West Brom and Stoke survive in the Premier League – and just WHO will go down?

by stresster on September 29th, 2008 7 comments

Not many teams will win at The Emirates this season, although that’s exactly what Hull did on Saturday evening. Nobody could argue that the Tigers weren’t full value for the three points, taking advantage of Arsenal profligacy and notching two second half goals in quick succession. The question is, can they and their fellow top-flight new boys stay in the Premier League? [Read the rest of this entry »]

What do Stoke, Everton, Hull, Aston Villa and Blackburn have in common?

by stresster on August 22nd, 2008 3 comments

The answer is that they’re all interested in signing a certain striker from Valencia. If the player is that good, you have to question why Los Che are considering farming him out on loan to a Premier League club, and the fact that Stoke and Hull have been linked to the forward may suggest that he’s not exactly on a par with Fernando Torres. Hull City pick up Tottenham AND Everton reject – anyone think this is a good idea?

by Dexter on July 29th, 2008 3 comments

Hull City obviously recognise that they need to strengthen up their defence for the test ahead in the Premier League, but they may want to re-think their transfer targets. Hull are set to nab Spurs reject Anthony Gardner, the man who was shipped out to Everton, but couldn’t get a game there either! [Read the rest of this entry »]

Hull confident of signing Manchester United striker

by stresster on May 26th, 2008 3 comments

Yes, that’s right, Wayne Rooney likes the idea of moving from rainy Manchester to Humberside in the summer and joining the Premier League new boys. Hang on, that’s not right, it’s actually Fraizer Campbell who could be making the permanent switch after helping the Tigers to achieve promotion in Saturday’s play-off final. The striker set up Dean Windass for the only goal of the game and Sky Sports reports that the City chairman wants to have the youngster for keeps after some impressive displays this season.

“The position with Fraizer is that he now goes back to Manchester United and Sir Alex has a decision to make,” Duffen told the Yorkshire Post.

“I am sure he will know whether Fraizer is ready to go into the first-team squad at United or not. If it is the latter, then there will be two options – one to loan Fraizer out for another year’s experience or, instead, to sell him.

“Obviously, if he chooses one of these two options then we would be interested and would then have a conversation with United. And I believe we would then have a very good chance of getting Fraizer.”

It’s clear that Hull are going to have to spend big in the summer if they are to stay in the Premier League by the end of next season. It’s hard to see Campbell getting much in the way of first-team football when you consider Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez and Saha are his current competition, and Sir Alex Ferguson is always keen on making sure his starlets get plenty of match experience in the meantime.

Are West Brom, Stoke and Hull going down next season?

by stresster on May 25th, 2008 22 comments

That’s the question that many people will be asking after the Tigers landed promotion on Saturday afternoon, thanks to an amazing strike from Dean Windass. The 39-year-old has been an influential figure for City this season, yet it’s hard to imagine him or many of his team-mates cutting it in the Premier League.

Not that Hull are too bothered right now, with the BBC reporting that chairman Paul Duffen is experiencing a ‘life-changing’ moment, having seen the club go from relegation fodder to promotion contenders in the space of a season.

Duffen, who took over last year, told BBC Look North: “I’ll have a chance to reflect properly in the summer.

“It is life changing for the city and for all sorts of people. It’s something that needs a bit of sober reflection.”

Will Hull ‘do a Derby’ next season and accrue only a handful of points or will some sound investment, allied to a good working relationship between board and manager, ensure that the Tigers finish seventeenth or better? They are already at a disadvantage due to the fact that they have less time to sign new players compared to West Brom, Stoke and every other club in the Premier League. It’s going to be a long hard season for the promoted trio but the fans must be in dreamland right now.
