Now, not many of you would have been glued to your TV’s for the Turkey Vs Kazakhstan match on the weekend, which is a shame as you would have seen this beauty struck by Bayern Munich midfielder Hamit Altintop. It’s one of those goals that many will try to emulate in Sunday League matches and in school playgrounds up and down the land, all with predictably awful results. To say that Altintop hit the sweet spot with this strike would be the understatement of the year.

Niko Kranjcar scored a late winner as Croatia battled in vain for the win that may have given them hope of securing the second spot in Group 6, only for Ukraine to romp past Andorra 6-0.

Kazakhstan has a population of 15 million people, the capital is called Astana and their Prime Minister is called Karim Masimov. However, it’s fair to say that most people associate the country with Borat, the fictional character invented by Sacha Baron-Cohen.
