Kyle wasn’t fazed and relished the occasion. He came out of the final as United’s outstanding performer.”

The Source: (Sunday Mirror)

The Analysis

Given the likelihood of a ‘homegrown’ quota being introduced in the Premier League we are seeing far more speculation revolving around English names and for youngsters in particular and Kyle Naughton is the latest to be put under the spotlight.

The young full back who it seems may be even more ideally suited to playing further up the park in either a wing back or straight winger slot, took his chance at Bramall Lane with both hands. There can be few players who manage to rack up 45 starts in their debut season in the first team and that the youngster did just shows how invaluable his performances became to Kevin Blackwell’s Sheffield United side.

Now the big boys are calling and after the club lost the play off final to Burnley in a game they simply did not appear to turn up to, the big boys started to really push for the local lad’s signature. If Man United do indeed pursue their interest with a bid as this source states then the Blades will have to make a difficult decision.

Yes they wouldn’t want to lose a player of such potential but equally they wouldn’t want to stand the way of such a glamourous move and would obviously stand to make a financial killing from such a transfer.

The Likelihood

Naughton to Man United: If Sir Alex does indeed put in a bid of this size I am sure he will get his man.

Get a free £10 bet on Man United by joining William Hill now.

Will Sheffield United’s star striker make all the difference?

Championship

Sheffield United FC

james beattie

Kevin Blackwell

Both Sheffield clubs have strikers missing for the next few weeks, perhaps the supporters of both clubs can have a pint together while commisserating over their respective losses. While two-goal hero Akpo Sodje is out for at least a month after getting injured against Burnley on Saturday, James Beattie is yet to take to the field for the Blades, with knee surgery holding the former Everton man back.

The Daily Mirror reports that the striker will be missing for another month, something which is a blow to the red-and-white half of the city. While the likes of Jonathan Stead, Billy Sharp and Darius Henderson are all capable of goals, it is the former Saint who can be relied on to score the most goals.

“James Beattie is going to be out for another month after he had his knee cleaned out,” said Blackwell.

“We’ll be delighted to have him fit again as Kevin Phillips and Beats are of the same ilk.

“Beats got goals last season that no-one else could have scored and of course we miss him.”

Last season’s goal return indicated that Beattie is one of the hottest striking properties in the Championship, although it’s not just the injury lay-off that United will have to contend with. It will then take their star man a few games to build towards full fitness, can the Blades stay in the promotion race while he’s absent?

Hull and Sheffield United in player tug-of-war

Championship

Hull City FC

Plymouth Argyle FC

Sheffield United FC

Bramall Lane

Home Park

Hungary

kc stadium

Kevin Blackwell

Paul Sturrock

Peter Halmosi

phil brown

Plymouth Argyle winger Peter Halmosi has been a long-term target of Premier League new boys Hull City, with Tigers manager Phil Brown admitting his interest publically last week. In that regard, then, he would be in a list of good players I would be interested in.

It is thought that the two clubs will now battle it out for the £3million-rated Hungarian’s signature.

Halmosi has not gone public with any comments and it remains to be seen if the 28-year-old would prefer a Premiership relegation battle at the Kc Stadium or a Championship promtion race at Bramall Lane.
