Yes, we felt the need to dredge up this emotional, slightly unhinged, clip!
Joe Kinnear remains the interim manager of the Magpies, but nobody is precisely sure how long his tenure will last at St James’ Park. It’s clear that the former Wimbledon gaffer would like this job on a full-time basis, and had been favourite to get the gig permanently until a recent shift in the odds… [Read the rest of this entry »]
Do you trust a word that comes out of Joey Barton’s mouth? After all, we’ve been here before with the words of remorse and the head hung low, although maybe the Newcastle midfielder has turned over a new leaf after his spell in prison. [Read the rest of this entry »]
Yazz sang that ‘The Only Way Is Up’, although Magpies supporters will be wondering when there will be an improvement in the club’s fortunes. This season, things have gone from bad to worse, despite the sub-standard manager that is Kevin Keegan leaving the club. Getting shot of him was probably a good idea, but only if you have a long-term replacement lined up. [Read the rest of this entry »]
The announcement that Mike Ashley had decided to sell up at St James’ Park was met with universal acclaim from the supporters, who have witnessed nothing but trouble since the rotund owner picked up the reigns at Newcastle United. However, it doesn’t appear as though a quick sale is going to happen, much to the disdain of the Toon Army, with the economic climate not exactly ripe for a transaction at the moment. While most football fans have to put up with a decent chunk of disappointment, Newcastle supporters seem to have it tougher than most, with their club regularly featuring on the back pages for all the wrong reasons. Many members of the Toon Army must be delighted that Tottenham’s current plight is keeping their own club out of the headlines, although they’ll also be pleased to see one of Mike Ashley’s boardroom recruits buggering off. Mike Ashley is not a popular man among the St James’ Park faithful. Indeed, it’s strange to think that he was downing a pint of lager in the midst of the Toon Army at the Emirates a few weeks ago, when his presence among supporters now would probably put his life at risk. The owner is fearful of even going anywhere near the Tyneside club which he currently owns, and this latest revelation will do nothing to dispel the theory that he wanted to make a quick buck out of Newcastle. Any time there’s a story with the words ‘Newcastle’ and ‘United’ written, it’s important to expect the unexpected. After all, this time last season, Sam Allardyce was manager and things were going relatively well at St James’ Park. Since then, he’s been axed, Keegan has been and gone as manager, while Mike Ashley has stopped sitting with the away fans and put the club up for sale. Oh, and Joe Kinnear is interim manager. Just how farcical can the situation at St James’ Park become? Mike Ashley has seemingly done his level best to turn the club into a laughing stock, with virtually nobody interested in becoming Newcastle United under the current regime. The Magpies have found an interim manager in the form of Joe Kinnear, although it appears that one of the key members of the squad is not best pleased about it. [Read the rest of this entry »]
While Magpies fans won’t believe it until they see it, there could at last be reasons for cheer at St James’ Park after the last few weeks of misery (or should that be years?). Yes, Joe Kinnear might have been a disappointing instalment as interim manager of Newcastle, although the ex-Luton boss has hinted that his potential replacements will be music to the ears of Geordies. Newcastle United are pretty rudderless at the moment; no manager, an owner who wants to sell, and freshly dumped out of the Carling Cup at the hands of fellow subterranean Premier League losers Spurs. Yet they still retain the hope of having someone, anyone, take on the role of manager.
Next up on the very short St James’ shortlist? None other than El Tel. [Read the rest of this entry »]
Newcastle United are in a mess and it is speculated that there will be an exodus of top players soon. According to former Toon manager Graeme Souness, star striker Michael Owen.could be one of the players who decides to ditch St James’ Park.
Souness was sacked by Newcastle in January 2006 after a run of poor results and, now that Kevin Keegan has also gone, Souey has been unable to contain himself.
Voicing his concern about Newcastle losing players due to the current messy situation at the club, he said:
“I don’t think Michael Owen.will be alone in thinking that he should leave the club as soon as he can.
“Kevin Keegan was an extremely popular manager at St James’s Park. Michael will be one of a number of Newcastle players who’ll be looking at the situation very closely.
“All the players will be looking at their futures at the club in the light of what’s happened.”
Not that anyone can argue with that. After all, who would like to play for a club whose owner runs half the way across the globe to try to get the monkey off his back!?
