Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock has admitted injury-hit Kieron Dyer may not play again this season.

Dyer is set for a foot operation on Monday after limping off in the early stages of a reserve team comeback.

The 32-year-old suffered the original injury just seven minutes into his QPR debut on the opening day of the season.

“This is a devastating blow for Kieron,” said Warnock, who now looks set to leave Dyer out of his 25-man Premier League squad in January.

“I have never met a more determined pro in my career. He really doesn’t deserve this.”

QPR handed a one-year deal to the midfielder, who has managed just 41 appearances for club and country over the last five seasons, in the summer.

There was a fair amount of surprise when newly promoted QPR decided to offer Kieron Dyer a contract last summer as many would have noted that the former England man gets injured just thinking about playing football. Neil Warnock however decided to take a chance on the 32 year and that chance appeared to be paying off, for at least six minutes and then seven minutes into his Super Hoops debut the midfielder sustained a foot injury.

Dyer has had rotten luck with injuries in recent seasons and we wouldn’t be at all surprised if the former Newcastle United, West Ham and Ipswich Town man decided to call it a day and retire from the game.

Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock wants to sign three new players before the start of the Premier League season next week.

The QPR boss led his team to the Championship title and ended their 15-year absence from the top flight.

But he has been unable to strengthen his squad as much as would have liked despite signing Jay Bothroyd, Kieron Dyer and Danny Gabbidon.

Blackpool striker DJ Campbell and Southampton winger Jason Puncheon are two players on Warnock’s radar, and he hopes deals will be completed soon.

“Well, were talking to a number of players,” he told Sky Sports.

“We’re hoping to bring in two or maybe three players in the next week before the start of the season.

“We’ve gone slowly about our job but I think we’ve got some good players in and we’re looking to bring two or three other good players in.

“We haven’t gone silly and signed them straight away but we’ve been working hard behind the scenes.

“So it’s very encouraging and the way we’ve been playing in Italy was very good against different types of opponents but you’re going to get that in the Premier League.

“There’s something different every week isn’t there so I’m sure we can ruffle a few feathers.”

Qpr have completed the signing of midfielder Kieron Dyer on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old, who was released by West Ham United at the end of the season, joins the newly-promoted Premier League club on a one-year deal.

“I’m just delighted to be here,” he told the club website.

“Qpr are an ambitious club. When I sat down with Neil and he explained the vision for the club I wanted to be part of it. He totally sold the club to me.”

He added: “I’ve got something to prove after the couple of years I’ve had, but I feel good and I’m really looking forward to playing my part next season.”

Kieron Dyer has had awful luck with injuries for the better part of six seasons and a career that offered so much promise has looked like it would peter out completely but a one year contract at newly promoted QPR offers the former England international the chance to resurrect his career in the English top tier.

The 32 year old has amazingly amassed just 16 league starts in the last four years and this may well be Dyer’s last chance saloon and Neil Warnock will be hoping it’s a gamble that won’t back fire because the former West Ham, Ipswich and Newcastle United man is sure to be on a pretty decent salary and all being well, and hamstring injuries permitting, this could work out a good deal for the West London side.

Ipswich have brought former star Kieron Dyer back to the club on loan from West Ham.

Dyer, who started his career at Portman Road, has signed a month-long loan deal with the Championship outfit.

The 32-year-old has endured a miserable time with a series of injury problems in the last few years and has made only 17 starts for West Ham since arriving from Newcastle in the summer of 2007.

Dyer has made 13 appearances for the Hammers this season, but he is well down the pecking order in Avram Grant’s plans. (Sky Sports)

A move back to Ipswich Town may well be an intelligent one and perhaps this loan move will turn permanent in the summer as Tractor Boys boss Paul Jewell seeks to improve his Portman Road squad.

Matthew Upson will be sold next month if West Ham United receive an appropriate bid for the centre-half, as the 31-year-old has six months remaining on his deal.

Upson is one of six players who will be out of contract next summer and West Ham will also allow the midfielder Kieron Dyer, the right-back Lars Jacobsen and the defenders Jonathan Spector and Danny Gabbidon to leave at the right price.

Upson’s departure would be the most significant blow. There is no desire at Upton Park to sell the England international, who is the captain and an integral member of Avram Grant’s team. Yet his contract situation and the side’s precarious league position mean club and player will await developments next month.

West Ham are bottom of the Premier League, three points from safety, having won only twice all season. Despite a strong belief among the directors that Grant will avoid relegation, the team’s position makes the offer of a fresh long-term deal, and its acceptance by Upson, difficult.

Upson may interest Liverpool, with whom he has been linked, due to the long?term injury to Jamie Carragher, and any funds generated from sales would be used by Grant to strengthen his squad. Carlton Cole may also be sold as the manager has stated that the forward can depart next month, and Valon Behrami, signed from Lazio in 2008, would like to return to Italy. (Guardian)

West Ham stand on precarious ground as they look to prepare themselves for life in the Championship. With many of their failing squad set to be out of contract come the summer it appears the east London club is looking to cash in on their services before they leave for free at the end of the season.

Of the seven on offered in the source above, five have less than six months left on their current deals and the other two, Valon Behrami and Carlton Cole, could be sold for more substantial sums next month. Matthew Upson is probably the only player among the five set to be out of contract who may be of interest to other top tier sides.

Kieron Dyer’s constant injury problems may well make it hard for the former Newcastle United man finding a new club and Lars Jacobsen, Danny Gabbidon and Jonathan Spector look more like Champinship players than Premier League ones.

The second half of the season will be a hugely important one for the Hammers and if they can indeed stave off relegation there will be a great deal of rebuilding at Upton Park but a drop down may make that process a very difficult one indeed.

West Ham will be looking to get at least £10 for Cole, who had two good solid seasons before this current one, and around £8m for Swiss international Behrami who appears keen on a return to Italy. The other five may struggle to get much more than a couple of million each and therefore it may be in West Ham’s best interest to keep them at the club to help in the battle against the drop.

West Ham United Facing £40 Million Fire-Sale Of Players If They Are Relegated From Premier League

The West Ham board believe that Parker is one of their biggest assets and could bring in as much as £8m to the club.

Other players likely to leave Upton Park would be Liverpool target Carlton Cole, England goalkeeper Robert Green and midfielder Mark Noble, who are expected to fetch at least £15m for the struggling London side.

The problem for chief executive Karren Brady will be to generate the remaining cash from highly-paid veterans of the squad such as Kieron Dyer and Matthew Upson.

Central defender Upson is out of contract in the summer and expected to leave Avram Grant’s side on a free transfer, while Dyer is unlikely to attract many suitors given his high wage demands and poor injury record.

The Premier League’s ‘parachute payments’ of £30m, which the Hammers will receive if they are indeed relegated, are unlikely to ease the financial burden on the club.

The precarious financial situation has come about thanks to West Ham’s previous Icelandic owner’s willingness to spend big money on wages in order to chase success on the pitch.

However, due to the economic slump in 2008 and poor performances in the Premier League, that ill-starred strategy has come back to haunt the East-London side, whose current tenure in the top-flight has so far lasted five-and-a-half seasons since they gained promotion in 2005. (Yahoo)

Whilst this article is clearly getting a little ahead of itself it does discuss some very worrying issues that could well hit West Ham if they fail to beat the drop. The club are in a very precarious financial position and the current owners have to weigh up the cost of bringing in January signings to avoid the drop against the knock on effects of such a move if indeed such a plan does not prevent relegation.

Avram Grant has his work cut out for him as he attempts to prevent West Ham from being yet another club who were bottom at Xmas from ultimately going down to the Championship, only West Brom in 2005 managed to buck that trend. The Israeli will however demand some cash to bring in the necessary players to do the job, but should Messrs Sullivan and Gold give it to him?

The Times reports that West Ham are planning to largely stick with the squad they’ve got for next season, hoping that the number of players on the treatment table is reduced so that manager Alan Curbishley has a full compliment from which to pick (if he survives until August).

“I think when all our players are fit and we can play Dean Ashton up front with Craig Bellamy or Freddie Sears, when Julien Faubert gets a chance, when we can play Scott Parker and Kieron Dyer in midfield, then we are capable of making the top six, and that is our aim,” chief exec Mike Duxbury said. “I think there will be money for signings, but I am not sure we want to use it.”

“If we bring in big-money signings, then we are not going to see the players who we have already get a chance to show what they can do,” Duxbury said. “What sort of message are we sending out to Sears if we buy another big-money striker? Obviously, we will look to bring in players where we need a bit of cover, but perhaps we will bring in a younger striker and let him learn from the more experienced players.”

It will be interesting to see if West Ham hold true to this policy next January if they’re floundering in the lower reaches of the Premier League. It’s certainly hard to see them achieving their aim of finishing sixth next term, considering the renovation likely to be taking place at White Hart Lane in the summer.

On a brighter note, the same article reports that Kieron Dyer could be on his way back for Alan Curbishley’s team, despite predictions that he too would miss the rest of the campaign. However, it’s looking increasingly unlikely that West Ham will qualify for Europe this season, which must have been their aim in August after spending so much money in the summer.
