West Ham are looking to pull off a major coup by snapping up Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni for free this summer. The Italian international has been linked with a move to the east London side before and the Hammers are ready to offer the 32 year old a two year deal worth £8m in order to persuade the veteran to make a move to the Premier League.

Bayern President Uli Hoeness has already stated that he would allow the former Fiorentina man to leave for nothing this summer and following rumours that co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold had considered offering Thierry Henry a similar money spinning deal it appears that they are now hoping to tempt Toni to Upton Park.

Toni spent half of last season at Roma where his cameo roles helped propel Claudio Ranieri’s side into a Serie A title race, which went to the wire, and the Italian is unlikely to return to the Bundesliga club after falling out with the management team at the Allianz Arena.

The manner in which the talented forward was treated by the German champions is a little bizarre given the fact that helped the club to the domestic double in his first season, during which he netted an impressive 39 goals. Anyone thinking that a move to West Ham is unlikely would do well to remember the way in which they secured the services of Argentine pair Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez a few years back.

Chelsea could hijack West Ham’s attempts to lure Luca Toni to the Premier League it was reported today.

The Bayern Munich striker has been told he can leave in January after his relationship with boss Louis van Gaal was deemed unworkable.

Although the Italian would prefer a return to Serie A, he’s been strongly linked with a move to West Ham ever since it became clear he would be allowed to move on.

Gianfranco Zola is desperate to boost his strike force with his team struggling at the wrong end of the table.

Yet reports today in Italy suggest Chelsea are showing signs of interest. Manager Carlo Ancelotti is eager to provide some cover for Didier Drogba during the Africa Cup of Nations and Toni could resolve the issue.

That he would simply be a short-term solution may concern the 32-year-old who is eager for first-team football to push his chances of a place in the Italy squad for the World Cup. (Independent)

This strikes me as a very wise move by Carlo Ancelotti. Not only will Chelsea net themselves a proven striker who is perfectly built to do well in the Premier League but in Luca Toni they have a great short term replacement for African Nations Cup bound Didier Drogba.

Quite why Italian International Toni is unable to secure a regular run out at Bayern Munich is beyond me, the former Fiorentina man has been a veritable goal machine at the Allianz Arena but can’t buy a break from new boss Louis Van Gaal.

Chelsea will be looking to cement their place at the top of the Premier League table and will struggle without a myriad of players heading for Angola and the £6m rated striker will be a very intelligent acquisition.

BERLIN – Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni – linked with moves to West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Roma this summer – could face disciplinary action after driving home at half-time in their Bundesliga match against Schalke 04 on Saturday.

“This is not acceptable. We have registered this and will talk about it internally,” Louis Van Gaal told Sky Television at the end of the match.

“If this happened then that is not good. We have to talk about this.”
Bayern drew 1-1 at home to Schalke, dropping to eighth in the league after yet another lacklustre performance.

Italian international Luca Toni has confirmed that he will leave Bayern Munich if head coach Louis van Gaal does not utilise him sufficiently.

With striker Mario Gomez signed from Stuttgart this summer, the prolific Italian could end up warming the bench at Bayern this campaign.

Toni has made it clear that he will not accept such a role and has stated that he will leave the club this winter if he does not get regular first team action.

“I am aware of my own qualities and so are a number of teams,” Toni told Kicker. “I will consider my future at the club in case I do not get a chance to prove my worth. I will have a look at what other teams have to offer if I do not get regular first team football.

“First, I need to get fully match fit, though. I am not afraid of the competition for a starting berth when I am fully match fit again. I do not mind starting from the bench in the upcoming weeks in order to get match rhythm again after my injury.”

Toni’s current Bayern Munich deal is due to expire in the summer of 2011, but the Germans could opt to cash in on the striker this winter if he fails to secure a spot in the starting XI. (Goal.com)

Quite how Luca Toni became surplus to requirements at Bayern Munich is beyond me. In his first season at the club the Italian managed an incredible 39 goals in all competitions and helped the club to a league and cup double. His second season was hindered by injuries but he still managed 18 goals but now it appears new boss Louis van Gaal values Mario Gomez as his first choice starter and whilst the new striker has done well Bayern have only managed one win in their first four games.

Now Toni wants out and given that Harry Redknapp has made it clear he is interested in the veteran striker perhaps he could well make a move in the January transfer window, by which time it will become even clearer as to whether the former Fiorentina man is part of the new coach’s plans.

The Tottenham boss is keen to have four striking options and with Roman Pavyluchenko edging towards a move back to Russia perhaps a move for 32 year old Toni would work as a good alternative.

Michel Salgado is keen on trying his luck in England with West Ham United after leaving Real Madrid, and he could potentially replace Lucas Neill at Upton Park, according to a report in The People.

The 33-year-old left the Santiago Bernabeu after more than a decade last week, stating that he feels he still has something to offer at the highest level.

Rather than move to another club in the Primera Division, the Spain international would like to play in the Premier League and could join the Hammers.

Harry Redknapp is ready to hijack West Ham’s bid for Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni after missing out on Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
Italy international Toni is friends with Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola and is keen to link up with his fellow Italian at Upton Park according to his agent.

However, reports today suggest Spurs could be set to make a last minute bid after missing out on long term target Huntelaar, who is to join AC Milan, as they are keen to add another striker to their squad after selling Darren Bent to Sunderland.

Gianfranco Zola’s search for a new striker was boosted today with the comments made by agent of Bayern Munich and Italian forward Luca Toni. Zola has been in market for a new striker since the departures of both David Di Michele, who returned to Torino after his loan spell came to an end and Diego Tristan who left on a free transfer to sign for Cadiz of the Spanish Segunda Division. Questions over Dean Ashton’s fitness have been well documented and have pushed Zola into the market for a top quality striker to lead the line with Carlton Cole.

If any deal does goes through Zola would acquire a much needed striker with a proven track record. Toni has scored 57 times in 81 appearances for Bayern Munich in two years at the German giants and finished the Bundesliga’s top goalscorer in the 2007/08 season.

This move has been mooted for some time now; nevertheless Jose Alberti’s comments today will come as a massive boost to Zola, who is desperate to recruit some players before West Ham open the season away at newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers.

West Ham United’s determination to strengthen their attack by signing Bayern Munich’s Luca Toni and Eidur Gudjohnsen of Barcelona increased as Luis Boa Morte suffered cruciate damage which could rule him out until the new year.

Boa Morte sustained the injury to his right knee during West Ham’s 1-0 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League Asia Cup in Beijing yesterday. The club’s chief executive, Scott Duxbury, and technical director, Gianluca Nani, had already decided to remain in Europe to pursue Toni and Gudjohnsen.

Boa Morte’s fate leaves West Ham with only two senior forwards in Carlton Cole and the injured Dean Ashton, whose future is still unclear. Despite reports linking Stoke City with the 25-year-old there has been no official approach for the striker – who has a long-term ankle injury. The wearing of his No9 shirt by Junior Stanislas in China was because competition rules state all players must be numbered from 1 to 23, rather than a definitive sign of Ashton’s imminent departure.

Duxbury and Nani decided to travel to two destinations in Europe rather than to Beijing, suggesting negotiations for Gudjohnsen or Toni or both may have reached an advanced stage. Gianfranco Zola is keen to sign an experienced striker with international pedigree as he seeks to improve on last season’s ninth-place finish.

Plaudits for Duxbury and Zola for making in roads to capture either of these top performers but is there really a chance they could sign them? Well anyone doubting their chances would do well to recall the club’s double capture of Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano, the danger of course is that the Bayern Munich and Barcelona stars use the east London club as a stepping stone in much the same way the two Argentines did, but they would lose little in trying hard to seal either deal.

Gianfranco has done wonders in the relatively little time he has been at Upton Park and he could well be the best man to push the side as far as they can go and don’t underestimate the draw the former Chelsea man represents when it comes to persuading big names to join.

Toni/Gudjohnsen to West Ham: They may have a decent shot at get the Icelandic international but will struggle to persuade Luca to leave the Bundesliga just yet.

T0TTENHAM boss Harry Redknapp is ready to bid for Italian target man Luca Toni – if he cannot seal a deal for Ruud Van Nistelrooy.

Toni, 32, finds himself surplus to requirements at Bayern Munich despite a prolific spell with the German giants – and Spurs are one of several clubs to have enquired about him.

People Sport revealed last week that Redknapp is trying to land Real Madrid’s Van Nistelrooy. But he is reluctant to agree a £70,000-a-week twoyear deal with the ex-Manchester United goal machine because he has yet to prove his fitness after a serious knee injury.

Luca Toni is something of a late starter, not receiving his first Serie A start until the age of 24 so in many ways his age is a little misleading as at 32 he appears to be at his peak, as evidenced in his fantastic record in the Bundesliga. He has the stature and stamina to make it in the Premier League and would be a great signing.

Toni to Spurs: Would be a tough deal to secure but one well worth making an effort for.
