The Daily Mail today reports that Robinho was swanning off to Brazil whilst his new Man City teammates were getting shamed by Brighton in the Carling Cup… [Read the rest of this entry »]
There are some cracking Premier League matches in store this weekend but, for once, it appears that Liverpool v Man United is being somewhat overshadowed by a fixture taking place a few miles away on Saturday. The match at Eastlands is sure to be a spicy, especially considering the events of 1st September, where there was a last minute change-of-heart from a Real Madrid footballer about which Premier League club he wanted to join. Let’s face it, Oasis went downhill after their first two albums, although that hasn’t stopped them making shedloads of cash from recording several dud albums since and going on a string of tours. Their success has elevated the Gallagher brothers into stardom, and one of them has exclaimed his delight upon hearing about his club’s newly-found wealth. [Read the rest of this entry »]
Poor old Peter Kenyon, he must have some explaining to do with Roman Abramovich, after the Chelsea chief executive missed out on signing Robinho over the past few days despite numerous trips to Real Madrid. The Brazilian instead opted for a move to sunny Manchester, although is this a blessing in disguise for last season’s Premier League runners-up? [Read the rest of this entry »]
Recent events at Eastlands have been very sudden. This time a week ago, Man City’s financial situation was unclear (remember the story about SWP having reservations?) and the club were on the verge of being eliminated from the UEFA Cup. Now, they have godzillions of pounds to spend on new players thanks to their latest owners, and it sounds as though they narrowly missed out on another hot property the other day! The world of Premier League football has been crazy for some time, although it’s reached new heights in the past few days. That’s because the Abu Dhabi United Group have decided to buy a new football club and, after a careful game of ‘eenie meenie miney mo’, Manchester City are the chosen one. To say that the new owners are ambitious is ever-so-slightly an understatement with these latest targets. [Read the rest of this entry »]
While the blue half of Manchester failed with an audacious bid of £35 million for Dimitar Berbatov on Monday, they managed to pinch Robinho from under the noses of Chelsea, something which will no doubt irk Peter Kenyon and Roman Abramovich. The Red Devils have landed the Bulgarian striker for £30.7 million and we ask, which club has got the best deal? [Read the rest of this entry »]
Goodness gracious me, this is supposed to be a time when clubs tie up last-minute deals for players, yet it appears that Manchester City are about to fall into the hands of new owners. Only a few weeks ago, it had appeared that the club were in dire financial straits, with Thaksin Shinawatra having his assets frozen by the Thai government. Now it looks like they’re going to be cash-rich! [Read the rest of this entry »]
Things weren’t looking too hot for Manchester City on Thursday night, with Midtjylland a hair’s breadth away from eliminating them from the UEFA Cup. Mark Hughes’ men just about made it through thanks to a fortunate own-goal, and have since kicked on with the acquisition of a former servant and a tremendous win on Sunday. To be honest, it’s more down to Chelsea’s carefree spending than good business on the part of Manchester City, yet it appears that they are likely to be reunited with a player, who lit up several games while wearing a light blue shirt the first time around, for a fraction of the price that they sold him for. Who will be the first Premier League manager to be sacked this season? Last term, it was Jose Mourinho who unexpectedly left his post first, although it’s pretty safe to assume that Phil Scolari will not be walking away from Stamford Bridge anytime soon. However, there are already one or two gaffers looking over their shoulders after just a handful of matches. [Read the rest of this entry »]
First there was Elano, who has proved to be a pretty popular signing (even if he did go missing towards the end of last season). Then there was Jo, who City fans have barely seen in action. Now it appears that Mark Hughes could be adding another boy from Brazil to the squad before the transfer window slams shut. [Read the rest of this entry »]
Some very weird things are happening to ickle Shaun Wright Phillips. Firstly he is kicked to the curb by ruthless Big Phil Scolari, then his old flame Man City start sniffing around, as do Everton. Both clubs are then rebuffed by his agent who says he doesn’t want to leave London and, in a final twist, his stepdad Ian Wright says that the “agent” who said he didn’t want to leave isn’t who he says he is. Eh? [Read the rest of this entry »]
The soap opera that is Manchester City Football Club continues to provide plenty of entertainment for us all. What do you expect when the owner used to be Prime Minister of Thailand, recruits and sacks the former manager of England, hires the former manager of Wales and then has his assets frozen after failing to attend a court hearing. Oh, and fails to sign the former World Player of the Year. [Read the rest of this entry »]
Welcome to the latest instalment of Premier League merry-go-round, where the arrival of one player at a club means that another can move on, and so on and so forth. Manchester City, shock horror, are actually about to complete a new signing. Just please don’t ask where they found the £6 million to splash out on this Hamburg defender! It’s fair to say that the finances of Manchester City could be in better shape at the moment. Owner Thaksin Shinawatra has had his assets frozen by the Thai government, meaning they are no longer prepared to throw bucketloads of cash to land the likes of Ronaldinho, and are instead struggling to retain the services of Corluka and Ireland. If you’re a newspaper desperate to sell copies every day, how do you make the stories more enticing? One of the things you can do is get some quotes from players or managers, that always spices things up. But what about if nobody will speak to you about the subject in hand, such as the potential disaster waiting to happen at Eastlands? [Read the rest of this entry »]
This time last season, season-ticket holders at Eastlands were bouyant. Thaksin Shinawatra had taken over the club, installed Sven as the manager and funded a number of transfers, including Elano, Petrov and Corluka. A bright start to their Premier League campaign, including a defeat of Man United, contributed to the feelgood factor, although there’s currently a very different atmosphere at Eastlands with the season about to start. Spare a thought for Sparky Hughes. The poor lad did a magnificent job managing Blackburn but having jumped into the hot seat at Manchester City, he now finds his position increasingly untenable as key decisions are being made behind his back.
