Injury-hit Newcastle striker could be forced to retire from football
by stresster on October 7th, 2008 3 commentsWhile Michael Owen continues to remain free of injuries, Newcastle give thanks for small mercies, with two of their other key forwards on the sidelines. While Obafemi Martins will be back at some stage as he recovers from a knee injury, the same cannot be said with confidence about Mark Viduka, with the Australian continuing to battle against an Achilles injury that just won’t go away. Keegan dismisses Viduka bust-up at Newcastle
by stresster on March 14th, 2008 no commentsMark Viduka regularly gets mentioned when defenders are asked about the toughest players that they’ve faced. When the Australian striker is on song, he’s barely playable but unfortunately for Newcastle, this has rarely happened this season. Indeed, there had been rumours that he and Kevin Keegan had recently fallen out, although The Guardian report that apparently nothing could be further from the truth.
Keegan said: “I get on really well with Mark, we’ve never had a bust up with any player at this club, and that’s the truth. He just hasn’t been fit. He’s come back from one thing and then got another thing and they’ve all been genuine. All the other stuff you’ve seen is absolute garbage.
“He’s my kind of player. He’s got this fantastic ability to score goals in tight situations and to score goals at important times. That’s what wins you football matches.”
Will ‘Dooks’ be Keegan’s match-winner on Monday night? Newcastle haven’t got many decent players but the former Leeds and Boro player is certainly one of them and, providing he gets any kind of service at St Andrews, there’s always a chance of Viduka being on the scoresheet. However, fans may be puzzled as to why their club have two strikers on the books who have a tendency to be unfit or injured.
