Tottenham chairman slates the club’s previous two managers for lack of progress
by stresster on October 31st, 2008 370 words | 4 commentsSpurs sit bottom of the Premier League at the moment and, while Harry Redknapp has made a solid start as the club’s new manager, it’s unlikely that Tottenham will be playing European football next season after such a poor opening. After finishing in the bottom half of the table last term, supporters were hoping for a massive improvement in fortunes, although chairman Daniel Levy has laid the blame squarely at the feet of two men. Tottenham’s fatties need to lose even more weight!
by Dexter on February 14th, 2008 310 words | 8 commentsJuande Ramos is still not satisfied with the weight that Tottenham’s players have lost, and still wants them to lose even more blubber, Spurs fitness coach Marcos Alvarez said:
“When we arrived we realised straight away that the team was carrying excess baggage.
“I made a very simple comparison with the Seville team that we had been working with and, taking into account the size of the players, the team was basically 100kg overweight.
“So I immediately talked to Tottenham and we set the wheels in motion to change things. They have now lost between 40 and 50 kilos.
“But now getting the rest off is the most difficult part — but we have also turned a lot of fat into muscle.”
Alvarez also described the Bacchanalian feasts that the porky Spurs team gorged themselves on every day under friendly ogre Martin Jol’s ‘all you can eat’ gob-stuffing regime. Ramos and Alvarez soon put an end to these daily Epicurean orgies, Alvarez continued:
“The truth is, the first buffet I saw I took photographs of because it was very interesting. Lots of sauces, a lot of cakes, chocolate muffins, a box full of sweets. So we tried to put things right.
“At the start, the players complained as we were taking away the things they liked.
“But gradually they have understood that we have done it so they can improve. And as the results have improved they have realised that it is necessary.
“They have all lost weight — some drastically. But they have seen how performances have improved and the team has moved up the league and they have accepted it.
“It’s not just a case of losing weight, if you can convert the fat into muscle then that can be a good thing too.”
So will the Spurs boys be able to lose yet more weight, and when will WeightWatchers sign up Tom Huddlestone as a spokesperson?
Jol: Spurs must pay me in full
by sub on January 21st, 2008 168 words | 16 commentsMost of us would agree that Martin Jol was hard done by his sacking at the hands of the merciless Tottenham Hotspur board and as if betrayal of faith weren’t enough, Spurs are seemingly out to shun the monetary responsibility that they have towards the Dutchman.
Goal.com quotes a Daily Mail reports stating that Jol is absolutely battered by the Spurs board disinclination to pay his £4million due fully. Instead the Premiership club is planning to pay him in installments, which implies that Jol is unable to take up any management job at the moment.
The scenario is firmly directed against Jol. Should Jol take any job at a club now, he wouldn’t receive the compensation package by the Spurs board and obviously Jol doesn’t want to lose out on this particular money. Jol is frustrated that Spurs are intentionally not paying the money in full to him.
Well, seems like that the one-time rocking love story is being rocked into pieces. What happens in the next episode?
The men who sacked Jol are now ruining his future too!
by Dexter on January 20th, 2008 168 words | 6 commentsEx-Tottenham boss Martin Jol is desperate to get back into management, so much so that he is going to
“demand that Tottenham pay his multi-million-pound compensation package in full so he can get on with the rest of his life and career.”
According to the Daily Mail, Jol’s former employers at Spurs are paying him in monthly installments, and because of that Jol’s plans to move into a new job have hit a roadblock. Mail journo Bob Cass writes:
“Negotiations with another club could influence his payments from Spurs. Jol argues that the club are blocking his chances of taking a new job by refusing to pay him one cheque.
“He will now have to wait until his exit contract is completed at the end of the season.”
Poor Jol has had a ropey few months, having to endure all the “stab in the front” malarkey and now the poor Ogre is being kept away from all the clubs simply dying to hire him thanks to the Spurs board’s gittishness.
Toon fans: would you be happy with Martin Jol at St James’ Park?
by Dexter on December 29th, 2007 182 words | 28 commentsSo the Chelsea v Newcastle game is currently underway, and after a mere quarter of an hour Obafemi Martins’ verbal diarrhoea style of football has already seen him squander a useful looking chance. There is one man, however, that we n be sure is watching events with an eagle eye; Martin Jol. The Sun reports, in an “exclusive” no less, that big Martin Jol is ready to bring his ogre-faced style of management to St James’ Park if things continue to go pear shaped for Sam Allardyce.
Sun journo Mar Irwin writes:
“Martin Jol is ready to take charge at Newcastle if Sam Allardyce gets the bullet. Jol was offered the Toon job before Big Sam was appointed in May but the Dutchman stayed at Spurs. Now he is waiting for another call from St James’ Park and believes he can live up to their expectations.”
The Sun, nearly wetting themselves with the unbridled joy of grabbing a journalistic “exclusive”, seem very excited about the possibility of a Jol takeover at Newcastle. Toon fans: do you feel the same?
Jol lifts lid on Tottenham turmoil
by stresster on December 23rd, 2007 265 words | 5 commentsThe Daily Mail have reported some revealing insights from former Tottenham boss Martin Jol, confirming that many of Spurs’ summer signings were forced upon him. It also appears that the first sign that the Dutchman was about to lose his job came when Dimitar Berbatov shook his hand and apologised after the 2-1 defeat at home to Getafe.
‘Just before the match against Getafe, Berbatov came up to me and said: “Sorry coach”,’ recalled Jol. ‘I thought he was referring to the fact that he had not been playing well lately.Apparently he knew I was sacked.’
Jol also lifts the lid on his relationship with Damien Comolli, Tottenham’s director of football, confirming many Spurs fans’ belief that the breakdown of their relationship caused the former to leave the club.
‘From the first day it was an awkward working relationship (with Comolli),’ said Jol. ‘I was not his choice and he was not my choice. The pressure was so immense, so huge. For the most important part of my job I was depending on the people around me at Spurs who were buying the players. But I’d be the one who would be sacked if it went wrong, because I am responsible for the results.
Presumably a condition of Juande Ramos joining Tottenham was that he, like any normal football manager, would have a say in which players the club bought! It is unthinkable that an Arsene Wenger or Sir Alex Ferguson would have players forced upon him in such a fashion.
