The Abu Dhabi United Group mean business at Eastlands, and seem determined that nothing will stop them from making Manchester City into one of Europe’s leading teams. That was not really in evidence at St James’ Park on Monday night, when the visitors struggled to break down an ordinary ten-man Newcastle side after leading the game 1-0. Manchester United new signings on the way – with a 20 million Manchester City star on the list

by stresster on May 27th, 2008 203 words | 16 comments
  • Digg

According to the Daily Telegraph, Sir Alex Ferguson is a man in a hurry. The Scot is in no mood to kick around his house, sipping red wine and watching the stars of Euro 2008 rise in value with every kick, pass and tackle they make during the June tournament. The Manchester United manager is reportedly looking to do some quick business, including some extra firepower and a more permanent right-back solution than Wes Brown.

Ferguson is a long time admirer of Manchester City’s Micah Richards and the ongoing uncertainty over the future of manager Sven Goran Eriksson and any likely successor at Eastlands has convinced the United manager that a bid in the region of £20 million would be accepted.

While apparently:

Sevilla’s Luis Fabiano is seen as the ideal orthodox striker.

It appears that Fergie has around £50million to spend (the same as last season) on new signings and is likely to go for quality over quantity, especially with a bulky squad already. Micah Richards would be particularly useful, due to his ability to play right-back and centre half, providing cover across the back like if Ferdinand or Vidic were to be crocked. Not that Manchester City fans would be exactly chuffed with this happening.

Micah Richards: I shall return in 6 weeks

by sub on March 12th, 2008 270 words | no comments
  • Digg

For Manchester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson, the news that central defender Micah Richards would be back inside six weeks is good news indeed. In the last few weeks, Eriksson have had few reasons to smile with his Man City side rapidly slipping down the table and are now in such a position that they might not even qualify for the UEFA Cup.

But now that Man City defender Richards says that he is ready to return to first team action after recently undergoing a knee surgery, Man City can once again hope of rescuing their season. Richards says:

I had the operation nearly two weeks ago and things are looking good. Hopefully, I could be back even sooner than the six weeks.

The operation was something that couldn’t be avoided. I played in the derby at Old Trafford with it hurting and in the second half picked up an ankle knock as well so I was a wreck by the end of the game.

After the Everton match the knee was swollen like a balloon and I couldn’t carry on really. The medical advice was to get it done before the end of the season and that is what I did. It is for the best in the long term.

I hate missing games, especially at such a crucial time but I will be giving it 100 per cent to be fit as soon as I possibly can. I will be back and I will be back with a bang!

Man City’s defence in the absence of Richards has been fragile at best and his return would certainly help stern City’s backline.

Man City to miss Micah Richards for weeks

by sub on February 28th, 2008 136 words | no comments

Manchester City are going through a blue patch at the moment and manager Sven-Goran Erikson must certainly cursing his stars now that he is to miss his star central defender Micah Richards for several weeks.

The 19-year old England international has undergone an operation to cure a niggling knee injury that been bothering him since last year and he shall need some weeks for recuperation. Citizens club doctor, Mark Whitaker says:

The operation has been successful and Micah will begin a rehabilitation programme at Carrington starting tomorrow (Thursday). The medical team will monitor his progress over the coming days and weeks.

Bad, bad news for Eriksson. Now the brilliant partnership between Richard Dunne and Micah Richards in the centre of defence will be broken and the Swede would have to come up with a new pair.

Richards pleas Capello to include him in England set-up

by sub on February 26th, 2008 437 words | 3 comments
  • Digg

Manchester City’s 19-year old star central defender Micah Richards has issued a plea to England head coach Fabio Capello to forget about his sex video scandal and take him in the England set-up once again. Richards has expressed regret at the coming out of the sex video that irritated Capello so much that Italian hardliner decided to drop Richards from the first team when England played Switzerland in an international friendly earlier this month.

Richards has now come out and has urged Capello to note that he has turned over a new leaf and has matured. The Man City defender says:

Yeah, I was foolish to be in the video and I was devastated when it appeared in the News of the World.

Until that point everything was going smoothly with my career, both for Manchester City and England.

It was a real wake-up call to the fact I might have been doing things I really shouldn’t have been. It made me look at things differently, to think about the way I behave and what is going on around me. I would not want the England manager to judge me from one story in the paper. I would not want him to think that is what I am really like.

I just want my football to do the talking and to be clean off the field.

My behaviour has changed 100 per cent since that video appeared. I think I am a stronger person now.

My football has improved and things like this are not going to knock me down. I’ve made my mistake and learned from what happened. I won’t do this again.

“I’ve got little sisters and a little brother and I don’t want them reading this kind of stuff.

“Since the video I haven’t even been out in Manchester because I’m scared of another girl trying to set me up.

When people see me walk through the doors of a club or a bar they just see pound signs and they think to themselves I want a bit of that.

Girls just throw themselves at you. It’s unbelievable what they get up to to get your attention — the clothes they wear, the way they talk.

They can just be walking past you and they will grab your hand or even grab you between the legs.

Fabio Capello must certainly see Richards’ case and grant him pardon. After all, Micah Richards is one of the best defenders in the Premiership and a versatile one too. Moreover, given that he is just 19 years of age, Capello must certainly be aware that Micah is a long-term prospect for England.

Capello impressed by Manchester City keeper

by stresster on February 19th, 2008 179 words | 1 comment

Joe Hart has been earning rave reviews for some of his Manchester City performances this season, and it appears that the new England manager has been sitting up and taking notice. The Guardian report that Fabio Capello has spoken about two goalkeepers that have really caught his eye since the Italian was appointed in charge of the national team. Is Hart the answer to England’s long-term goalkeeping problem?

“Only 38% of the players in the Premier League are English, so the pool is reduced,” said the England manager. “I have had to reinstate a 37-year-old goalkeeper but I have spotted one in the Under-21s who is very interesting.”

The 20-year-old has been a regular for City since September and it’s his form, along with Micah Richards and Richard Dunne, which have ensured Eriksson’s team have been relatively watertight all season. Indeed, it was only recently that the Citizens lost their unbeaten home record in the league. Hart for England anyone or is he not ready to make the step up yet?

Arsenal swallow humble pie after Richards deal

by sub on February 14th, 2008 114 words | 28 comments

Arsenal are reportedly in a state of shock and disdain after Micah Richards signed a new contract with his club Manchester City last week. The Gunners were believed to be lining up another bid for the 19-year old full England international this summer but now have to look elsewhere for players to strengthen their backline.

Richards says that he is happy to have signed a new contract with City and the club too are relieved that their most prized asset has tied himself to a long term deal. Of course this means that City wouldn’t get the £15 million that Arsene Wenger would have paid them for Richards in the summer but they wouldn’t mind.

The greatest moment of Micah Richards’ career? Beating Man Utd!

by Dexter on February 14th, 2008 162 words | 4 comments
  • Digg

Micah Richard’s today revealed to the Sun that beating Man Utd last Sunday was the greatest moment of his career so far (you can tell he hasn’t had much of a career yet), and then dismissed United’s claims that fatigue caused them to lose. Richards said:

“It was an amazing day. City had not won there for 34 years, so to be part of a team to manage it is phenomenal.

“The City players were really up for the game. We wanted to show it was not only United who were turning up and that we had quality as well.

“The last thing Sven Goran Eriksson said before we went out at Old Trafford was ‘Don’t be afraid’.

“It was the best moment of my club career. I heard United blamed it on fatigue but I do not think that is a valid excuse.

“Many players at City were away playing abroad too.”

So were United’s excuses as lame as their on-field performances?
