Many of the Toon Army will regard their failure to land this player as a blessing in disguise. After all, with Michael Owen and Obafemi Martins already out injured, the club could do without more star quality on the treatment table for an indefinite period. [Read the rest of this entry »]

Manchester City are basking in joy and optimism at the moment with all off-pitch matters going their way. And it’s now been assured that their star young midfielder Michael Johnson will stay on at Eastlands for a few more years at least.
Johnson made his first-team debut in 2006 and is still only 20. A promising young midfielder, he is expected to come of age in the next few years and is already being hunted by the likes of Arsenal and Aston Villa.
However, he has yet to establish himself as a City first-team regular and was reportedly disgruntled at the lack of playing time at the City of Manchester Stadium.
Now it has been confirmed that Johnson has signed a new deal and has therefore committed himself to a longer term with the Eastlands club. But is that a good decision? After all, Man City seem to intent on ‘buying’ success and they wouldn’t be so interested in sustaining faith in young players.

According to the Daily Mail, Everton are set to make a bid for Man City midfielder Michael “The New Stevie G” Johnson, with David Moyes ready to wave a sizeable chunk of his transfer kitty – £8m – in front of Man City officials.
Everton are hot on the heels of Manchester City midfielder Michael Johnson – with boss David Moyes lining up a £8million swoop.
The 20-year-old playmaker, dubbed by City fans as the new Steven Gerrard, tops Toffees boss David Moyes’ wanted list and the clubs have opened talks. (Daily Mail)
It is fluorescently obvious that Moyes’ priority at Everton is to add to his midfield, and Johnson – a young and talented midfielder – would be a perfect signing. It is just a shame that Everton released him when he was an Academy player!

With rumours of a big squad clearout, it’s not hard to believe that there are going to be some fresh faces arriving at Anfield. Sadly, there aren’t many particularly exciting or high-profile names being thrown around just yet.
Hot on the heels of being linked to Wigan’s Luis Valencia, it seems that the tabloids have got Rafa having a bid rejected for James Milner while also pursuing City’s Michael Johnson – who combined would command fees in the 15-20 million range. Considering the brief for Benitez is to win the Premier League, we can’t see either of these lads taking the club to the next level even though they are young and talented.
Since Benitez is trying to clear out the piles and piles of average to slightly-better-than-average players this summer, surely he’d be better off saving up that money and looking for another Torres?

Manchester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is delighted to get the news that both Valeri Bojinov and Michael Johnson shall be back to first team action in a few days’ time after the duo came out unscathed during Monday’s reserves match against Newcastle United.
The Swede says:
Bojinov is not ready for the first team yet, but it was good for him to get back. He played 30 minutes and scored a nice goal and in that time you could see that he understands the game technically. He sees things early and links up well. He will be like a new signing. I don’t think he will be ready for our next game but I know it was a huge relief for him to be back. He has not stopped smiling since.
That is yet another good news for Eriksson whose side is back into a chance of finishing in the top four after defeating city rivals Manchester United 2-1 at the weekend.
