The Bangles enjoyed hits such as ‘Manic Monday’ and ‘Eternal Flame’, although the Wigan fans could be instead ‘Walking Like an Egyptian’ if the latest rumours are to be believed. Steve Bruce has already landed Amr Zaki this summer and the striker wasted no time opening his Latics account by scoring the consolation goal at West Ham last Saturday. Now it appears he’ll be joined by his compatriot to form a unique strikeforce. [Read the rest of this entry »]
North London’s former “favourite” son was at it again this weekend, poking his verbal stick into the bear cage hoping for a reaction from the Tottenham lot. He reckons the club’s new look is worthless without a certain Bulgarian striker. Is he right? [Read the rest of this entry »]
It seemed a pretty innocuous challenge on Saturday afternoon, with Mido challenging for the ball and catching Arsenal’s Gael Clichy in the face with his boot. However, the referee had no hesitation in sending off the Egyptian striker and you might have expected his club to appeal against this dismissal. The Daily Telegraph reports otherwise.
“Having spoken to the referee’s chief and to the referee himself, their feeling is that the decision wouldn’t be altered,” Southgate said.
“Whether or not there is intent is no longer considered, it’s about whether a challenge puts the opponent in danger.
“At no time has anybody suggested Mido intended to do what he did, but unfortunately it is perceived a dangerous play because he caught the lad.
“We’re not very happy about it but I can see why the referee has sent the lad off under those rules. But a three-match ban is very harsh.”
Indeed, it doesn’t seem fair on the north-east club, who are undoubtedly wary of appealing after Jeremie Aliadiere’s three-match ban was increased to four after Boro’s recent appeal was deemed frivolous by the authorities. All of a sudden, footballers are being asked to pay a lot more attention to where they put their feet, even at the expense of taking their eye off the ball.
Mido’s clearly familiar with the concepts of takeaways and speed-dial; how else can you explain the timber that the Egyptian striker has been lumbering about with for some time. Surely it’s not that much to ask professional footballers to stay in shape? On the day where we’ve reported that the Spurs squad have all converted fat into muscle, Sky Sports report that the Boro forward is still a month away from first-team action. Get your hands off that pie Mido!
“Mido is working very hard in training and I have seen a big improvement in him over the last couple of weeks,” Crosby told the Evening Gazette.
“If he continues to work at this rate then it might be another few weeks.
“He is going to be in decent shape at the end of it and hopefully he will be pushing for his place in no more than a month or so.”
We were going to bring you a special preview picture of the former Tottenham striker in training but we couldn’t scale down the photo to fit on your PC. Perhaps we’ll try again in a month when Mido loses a bit more of that puppy fat.
Newcastle United play Middlesbrough in the English Premier League at St. James’ Park on Sunday and Boro’s Egyptian international striker Mido is already looking to escaping from the abuse by the Toon Army. Earlier in the season in the corresponding fixture, Mido was singled out as the target of the Newcastle fans’ abuse and there were even one or two hints of racial cants.
Sky Sports quotes the player telling The Daily Mirror:
Hopefully we won’t hear the same chants again because it’s silly and should absolutely be kept out of everyday life and that includes football. I hope we don’t hear it again. It’s not only about me, it’s about everyone. If they do start chanting again I’ll make sure I keep my head calm and aim to do well for the team. It’s terrible when you hear people making chants about race, colour, religion or whatever. If you see what is happening now in England you do not normally hear that sort of stuff in everyday life. Now people are starting to understand that there is no difference between people and that everyone is doing their best in their own walks of life. There is no difference between the religions and colours and everyone should understand that. I wouldn’t say that if I do hear it that it would increase my determination or my efforts. I just hope if we do hear it again the Football Association takes the right decisions. I will go to Newcastle and I just plan to play my football and I hope to do well and score goals.
The Geordie fans have of course strongly dismissed any racial abuse towards the player but Mido would beg to agree. Well, the jury is out. Decide for yourself, mates.
