It was 1974 when a footballer last made the move from Man United to Arsenal, although the transfer of Mikael Silvestre has not exactly proved too controversial. While Sunderland and Man City will be disappointed to miss out on the French defender, he is coming towards the end of his career and was hardly a first-team regular at Old Trafford. It’s somewhat surprising to see that Sir Alex Ferguson has authorised the transfer of Mikael Silvestre from Manchester United to Arsenal. After all, the Gunners are one of the Red Devils’ main rivals for the Premier League title, is this a move that could come back to haunt the Scot? His players seem surprised by the switch as well, one of them certainly couldn’t see it coming. [Read the rest of this entry »]
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is a wily old fox and, when he saw that Mikael Silvestre was preparing to leave Man Utd and go to Man City, he instantly sent word to Silvestre that he wouldn’t mind having him at the Emirates. According to The S*n, Silvestre ditched Man City as soon as word of Arsenal’s interest wafted up north… [Read the rest of this entry »]
Bordeaux manager, and ex-Manchester United centre-back, Laurent Blanc has been told there is no chance of him reuniting with his first-choice transfer target and ex-Old Trafford teammate. [Read the rest of this entry »]
Mikael Silvestre might be one of the more reliable defenders around in the Premier League but he is also one of the more injury prone. This season the 30-year old French international defender again suffered a horrible injury and is still nursing the wounds.
Silvestre suffered critical-ligament damage against Everton in in September and has been out since. Fears are that he could miss the rest of the season, though the player himself is confident that he will be available for first-team selection some time in March.
This is what he said, as reported by Goal.com:
”I have been doing five, six hours a day of rehab since I got injured. It is a bit boring and very tiring because I only stay in the gym and don’t get to go on the field. I’m not even running outside yet, only in the pool. I’m not even touching the ball. So it is very boring. It is a long process and a long time without enjoying myself on the field.
”I know if I come back to my best then I will be able to play again because there are so many games. You always get an opportunity to play. I know I will have to play in the reserves first, at least one or two games. Play 45 minutes, then an hour and a half. You can’t go straight back to the first team. That’s what happens usually, it will be the same for me.”
Seems like manager Sir Alex Ferguson would be smiling to himself. Silvestre has proved highly significant in the Man United backline from time to time and a March return would coincide with the key part of the season both in England and in the UEFA Champions League.
