MK Dons 0-1 Burnley (Alexander)
The Guardian reports that although Blackburn Rovers have bagged themselves an up-and-coming manager, they have lost the financial support of the Jack Walker estate. [Read the rest of this entry »]
Who would be the better choice for the Blackburn job? Now that Alan Shearer has politely excused himself and eased back into his relaxed BBC career, it looks to be a two-horse race between the young and talented Paul Guv’nor Ince and the old hand Sam Allardyce. Ince has done a brilliant job at MK Dons, but has he got it in him to jump two divisions? On the other hand, Allardyce’s last attempt at management showed all the attacking panache and dynamism of a Douglas Bader and Ironside strikeforce.
“Blackburn Rovers appeared to be facing a choice of the untested and the unpopular last night after Alan Shearer ruled himself out of the race to succeed Mark Hughes as the club’s manager. Chief executive, John Williams, must now decide whether to approach MK Dons for permission to speak to Paul Ince – he had not as of yesterday afternoon – or proceed with Sam Allardyce, installed last night as bookies’ favourite. (Independent)”
So which would be preferable?
Blackburn Rovers are obviously spreading their net wide in their quest for a new manager. Candidates throwing their hat into the ring to fill the Mark Hughes-sized hole at Ewood Park range from the sublime to the ridiculous; from up-and-coming gaffer Paul Ince, experienced boss Sam Allardyce, to former players Alan Shearer and Henning Berg, and even – whisper it quietly – the wally with the brolly himself Steve McClaren.
Yes, don’t adjust your computer screens, the man who cowered in the toilets during a vital Euro qualifier could now be shaking in the Ewood Park loos come next season. Quite what Blackburn chairman John Williams sees in the pillock with the bleached teeth is beyond us, but what do the fans think? Who do you lot want to manage Blackburn Rovers?
The Sun reckons that the ten ultra-violent hard men below are the 10 hardest men in footballing history, what do you think?
Top 10 Hardmen
No10: John Terry
No9: Ron “Chopper” Harris
No8: Vinnie Jones
No7: Norman Hunter
No6: Roy Keane
No5: Stuart Pearce
No4: Romeo Benetti
No3: Dave Mackay
No2: Andoni Goicoechea
No1: Graeme Souness
Picking through this top ten The Sun have attempted to cover all bases in the nutter stakes but there can be lots of areas of complaint – what about Duncan Ferguson Tommy Smith, Julian Dicks or Billy Bremner, do they deserve to be in the list? And should John Terry be in at number 10, and most questionable of all, is Graeme Souness really the hardest footballer ever?
