Arsenal Midfielder Diaby Could Have Been Crippled By This Bolton Tackle (Video)

by Mad Dog and Glory on September 13th, 2010 16 comments

It is mere luck that has prevented French international midfielder Diaby from becoming the latest in an ever growing list of Emirates stars severely injured by dirty challenges. Watch carefully and you will see Bolton defender Paul Robinson blatantly take out the Arsenal man.

The challenge is clumsy at best and downright cynical at worst. Given that Ryan Shawcross mangled Aaron Ramsey last term and Eduardo was savaged by Martin Taylor it does appear that some teams feel that one way to attempt to play the north London club is to ratchet up the intimidation.

Of course there is room the game for tough tackling, football is and will always remain very much a contact sport, but sometimes it seems clubs take things too far and it is worth noting that the Trotters left back was not even cautioned for this offence.

Ex-Spurs keeper joins Blackburn and ‘feels wanted again’: Was he given a raw deal at White Hart Lane?

by stresster on July 30th, 2008 5 comments

Paul Robinson is a character in Neighbours who doesn’t seem to be very popular, and his footballing namesake knows how that feels after last season. Dropped by his club and country, it was truly a campaign to forget for the former Leeds goalkeeper, who has gone from hero to zero in a very short space of time. Can he resurrect his career at Blackburn? [Read the rest of this entry »]

Blackburn take a punt on Tottenham keeper – Aston Villa snap up his predecessor

by stresster on July 25th, 2008 11 comments

Never has there been a summer where clubs are not prepared to let players leave until they have found a suitable replacement. Sometimes it’s been the opposite, where clubs can’t buy a transfer target until they have the cash from a player sale. It all appears to have worked out for Blackburn and Aston Villa, who have landed themselves new goalkeepers ahead of the new season. Perhaps fans of the latter have more reason to be cheerful! Manchester City and Aston Villa to slug it out for Blackburn’s Yank goalie…

by Dexter on July 11th, 2008 no comments

The tough-as-nails bruiser of this summer’s transfer season is undoubtedly Martin O’Neill. Behind the soft geek chic exterior lies a ruthlessly tough negotiator. So when new City boss Mark Hughes saw that O’Neill has been sniffing around his old ‘keeper at Blackburn, Brad Friedel, Hughes leapt into action. [Read the rest of this entry »]

Will Blackburn swap Tottenham’s dross for their star player? This would be a huge transfer coup!

by Dexter on July 8th, 2008 16 comments

The Guardian reports that Tottenham’s gaffer Juande Ramos wants to try his hand at some Premier League alchemy. He’s looking to swap half a packet of Prawn Cocktail crisps (Darren Bent), some used bog roll (Paul Robinson) and a handful of change for Blackburn’s gobby golden boy (David Bentley).
