Aston Villa forward John Carew led an incredible second half comeback that saw the Villa Park side triumph over a resurgent Reading side to book a place in the FA Cup Semi Finals
Royals striker Shane Long had put Brian McDermott’s side two goals to the good to shock their Premier League opponents but Martin O’Neill clearly had something to say in the dressing room at half time and his side battled back superbly after the restart.
Ashley Young scored two minutes into the second half and John Carew added a second and a third before the hour mark and the big Norwegian front man completed his hat-trick in the dying minutes.

Despite Reading’s appalling home form Rafa Benitez’s Liverpool side could not get the better of the Championship side. Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard pulled the Anfield outfit level but failed to overcome a resilient Royals side in this FA Cup clash.

Sometimes even getting out of bed in the morning can be a career threatening maneuver, well that is if you’re a footballer!

It is very rare that a day will go by without a significant news story breaking about the English Championship. It is a very exciting league with numerous twists and turns throughout a season. With this in mind, perhaps it is no surprise that Queens Park Rangers have sent their manager Iain Dowie packing after just 15 games in charge. [Read the rest of this entry »]

Martin O’Neill is planning a January raid that looks like a damn good bit of business, as he looks to offload one average player to Reading, whilst taking their prized asset in return…plus some cash as well though of course!

This Reading man was said to be within a whisker of being brought in before the transfer window closed and now the Irish international wants the deal to be brought back to life in January!

It appears that the Toffees were either outbid or failed to land a number of transfer targets this summer. Everton fans certainly don’t appear to be particularly happy with the lack of activity on deadline day, and it appears as though it will be an uphill struggle to finish in fifth place again this season. This midfielder could have certainly helped the team if they’d managed to land him. [Read the rest of this entry »]

It appears that whilst a move to north London to join the Ramos revolution would have been a ‘dream’ move for this Reading man it appears his club decided they would avoid the nightmare of losing another of their strikers!

Fair play to the Potters, they’re spending plenty of cash to make sure that they’re not playing Championship football next season. They have already raided Reading once to bring in Dave Kitson for £5.5 million, and now they have boosted the coffers at the Madejski Stadium further by signing this imposing central defender. Cork City seem to be producing a conveyor belt of striking talent exclusively for Reading FC, with reports coming through that the Royals have snared yet another forward from the Irish cup champions. Steve Coppell is clearly keen to increase his attacking options after losing Dave Kitson to Stoke City during the summer and he’s brought in a player that may just give them an extra dimension this term. Dave Kitson and Nicky Shorey have already flown the Madejski Stadium nest for the Premier League, and Steve Coppell doesn’t need any more of his key players doing one out of the exit door in Berkshire. It appears as though he’s taken a step nearer to retaining the services of a talented midfielder, with news coming through that Boro haven’t renewed their interest. [Read the rest of this entry »]

What happens when you’re drawing or losing a football match in the English second flight? Do you a) panic and tell the team to play it long, b) send your central defender into attack or c) bring on Kevin Phillips to save the day? [Read the rest of this entry »]

It’s not much fun losing your best players. Nevertheless, it’s a fact of life for any football club, unless you’re a Manchester United, a Chelsea or a Barcelona. Reading manager Steve Coppell has seen the likes of Steven Sidwell, Dave Kitson and Nicky Shorey leave the club since he’s been at the helm, and it appears that the vultures are circling once again. Reading are among the favourites to win next season’s Championship, although their hopes of making an immediate return to the Premier League have been seriously dented today. While Steve Coppell was hopeful of keeping hold of one of his star players, the lure of playing in the top flight has proved too much for this England international. [Read the rest of this entry »]
