Former football ‘legend’ and current Twitter maniac Robbie Savage will no doubt find himself being used regularly to sell/promote one product or another. Personally we think he would be an ideal candidate to sell Marmite on the basis that you either hate it or …. hate it. Kudos for managing to get all these shirts on at the same time.
Before he was a Twitter legend, Robbie Savage was known as a very decent, if not great, footballer. Here are some pictures of the midfielder with immaculate hair.
To be fair Robbie Savage, he of 600+ appearances, was always entertaining on Twitter. Always ready to dish out the insults but always able to take the criticism he got. However it appears that a Daily Star article, surely the best newspaper ever known to man, has done it’s damage and the Derby County man has fled the site, which is genuinely a shame.
Not every player would love being relegated from the Premiership and even fewer player would actually love playing in England’s second tier.
But Derby County’s Robbie Savage says that he would love life fighting in a very competitive Championship. Derby’s relegation from the Premiership was confirmed this weekend after they drew 2-2 with Fulham and Birmingham City beat Manchester City.
Savage rages:
I’ll love it. I like being captain and what comes with it.
I will be there to be shot at next year and I am looking forward to it.
The lads tell me it’s one of the most difficult leagues to play in as there are two games a week.
But I’m looking forward to that too because I’d rather play than train, you don’t train too much when you play so often.
We’re going to be there to be shot at, brilliant, that’s what you want.
It’s fair to say that Robbie Savage has made a fair few enemies throughout a long and relatively successful football career. The Welshman, now at Derby County, has been involved in countless unsavoury incidents over the years and seen a flurry of yellow and red cards while wearing the shirt of many football clubs. However, the Derby Evening Telegraph reveal a softer fluffier side to the midfielder, after Savage stopped his car on the way to the Sunderland match to give two Rams fans a lift.
Mark Stevenson said: “I saw the car go past and noticed the driver was wearing a Derby tracksuit and said to Lauren ‘that might have been a player’.
“The car turned round and came back, the window wound down and I saw who it was. “Robbie said ‘are you going to the game? Jump in’. It was a bit of a surprise.
“He asked Lauren how long she had been supporting Derby and asked who was her favourite player. “When he got near the ground, he said ‘here’s two tickets, enjoy the game’.
“I know he took a lot of stick in some papers last week because of his new car and that but he seemed a sound bloke to me. “Let’s face it, how many players would have stopped and given two fans a lift?”
Not only did Mark and Lauren get some free tickets to see their beloved County, they also witnessed one of the best results of the season, ie their team not losing for a change! This is clearly one of the most heartwarming stories of the football season and proof that players sometimes do appreciate the fans.
Derby County’s Robbie Savage has missed most of the season with a plethora of injuries and he is unlikely to return soon. He has played just 7 times for the Rams this season and is expected to stay at Derby Park when Derby play Championship football next season.
Yet Derby boss Paul Jewell sympathises with Savage’s condition and says:
Robbie seems to be carrying one injury after another.
We have not seen the best of him by a long way and I think his performances are going to attract criticism, there is no way he has played well.
He is very low on confidence. He is almost trying too hard and is not doing one thing or the other. He is playing with niggling injuries when maybe he shouldn’t be.
I think Robbie is trying to take too much on. He doesn’t want to say he is injured and make it look like he is bailing out, I can see that.
Maybe we will have to have a look at giving him a rest and getting him properly fit, but he will want to play.
He will be an effective player for us, I have no doubt about that. At the moment, like a few other players, he is ineffective, but in his defence there are mitigating circumstances.
The string of injuries to Savage indeed raises the fear that maybe, just maybe, Savage’s playing career is over. Is it indeed so?
Rock bottom Premiership minnows Derby County have nothing to play for until the end of the season as the entire unit has virtually resigned itself to the drop to the Championship yet the Rams are not ready to make it easy for the other relegation candidates. It is reported that Derby midfielder Robbie Savage shall play against Wigan Athletic in a Premiership relegation six-pointer at the weekend despite still recovering from a bruised foot.
Savage is the captain of the Pride Park side and is ready to play for pride until the end of the season. The match against Wigan will also mark the return of Derby manager Paul Jewell to the club whom he saved from relegation last season and the reception would be mostly one of respect and gratitude.
Yet should Derby win only their second game in the top flight this season and manage their first away win of the season at the JJB Stadium, then the Wigan fans would quickly forget that Jewell was once their Messiah and turn against him.
