After a good opening season at the club the change of manager left the Brazilian looking for a new club and after a loan spell at Santos a move to the San Siro was secured.

The 27 year old has been consistent since his move to Ac Milan but has seen his first team starts reduced this term and has managed just three goals in 13 matches and a move to the West London club may well interest Robinho.

Andre Villas-Boas is apparently set to lose Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba is yet to sign a new deal and could leave in the summer. Fernando Torres is off form and therefore there may well be a need to bring in another attacking option, perhaps Robinho fits the bill?

Join the Best Football Manager game now, Its Free!

The Man Who Could Be King: Brazil’s Next Big Thing

Features

Homepage

Alexaandre Pato

Brazil

Ghana

Leandro Damiao

neymar

robinho

The Internacional striker has all the right attributes to become a top class striker and could well be an integral part of the next World Cup on home soil. Three of these goals helped lead his team to victory in the Recopa Sudamericana over Independiente. Further to this, he scored 17 goals in just 13 State Championship matches at the beginning of the year. Such a record is extremely impressive and not to be ignored.

Damiao has one particular ability that sets him apart from a typical Brazilian striker. That is the aptitude to score any type of goal, from acrobatics to headers. His competence in the air, giving the option for him to be deployed as a quality target man, is something that has been missing from previous Brazil squads.

Indeed his rich vein of form has not gone unnoticed, garnering interest and repeated bids from Tottenham Hotspur. He is seen by many as one of the fastest rising prospects in South American football and his club are awaiting a bid that will match that label. It is unlikely that he will move during this transfer window, as it coincides with the middle of the Brazilian domestic season.

Mano Menezes has also recognised the consistently first-rate performances of the young striker, rewarding him with a place in the Brazil squad to face Ghana on September the 5th.

After a disappointing Copa America, Menezes has drafted in new players to his squad as they begin to prepare for the World Cup. Damiao will provide Brazil with a different option up-front, a similar role played by Fred at the Copa America. However, Fred’s goal scoring ability is questionable and so the Internacional forward may well be the ideal replacement.

Brazil struggled in the Copa America as they did not have enough diversity among their attacking options. Whilst Pato, Neymar and Robinho are all extremely adept at taking on and committing players, there was no focal point to the attack. Damiao could take on that mantel. He offers the option to play the ball into someone who will hold the play and involve his team mates, as well as being a threat in the area.

However, some believe the faltering performances of late have been due to the pressure placed on young, inexperienced Brazilian players. Neymar and Ganso were both given key roles in the Copa America and arguably struggled with the responsibility placed upon them. So how will the introduction of Damiao, with only 2 previous international caps, be any different?

The answer coming in that Brazil have no competitive fixtures, despite the Confederations Cup in 2013, until the World Cup in 2014. This will enable Damiao to be integrated into the team comfortably, gaining more experience playing in the national colours.

This could begin against Ghana on Monday, if he is offered enough playing time. Performing in the majority of the country’s friendly games, as well as the Confederations Cup would provide part of a solid preparation for the World Cup.

When coupling this with the likelihood he will simultaneously be playing at the highest level in club competition, Damiao will be well equipped to lead the line for his country. A move to Europe will aid his ability to perform under great amounts of pressure, which will hold him in good stead for the World Cup.

The Internacional man will be almost 25 when the World Cup begins in Brazil and can turn himself into an integral part of his national team’s line up. With a bit of luck on the way he could become one of Brazil’s most accomplished players and a catalyst for a change in fortunes of the Brazilian national team.

Read more from Tom at his excellent blog Purple Patch

Join the Best Football Manager game now, Its Free!

Brazil Limp to Point from Their Opening Copa America Stalemate

Copa America

Extra Time

Features

Football and Soccer

Homepage

Brazil

Dani Alves

ganso

Julio Cesar

neymar

robinho

South American correspondent Tom Webber brings you all the action from the Copa America. Neymar and Ganso both started for Brazil and it would be interesting to see how they dealt with not being favourites for the tournament. Perhaps it would enable them to play with that classic freedom and flair that are so often declared as traits of the Brazilian game. The excitement and anticipation of the crowd added to the buzz surrounding the game.

Brazil came out the blocks quickly and the game was stretched from the beginning. Early attempts never really troubled Vega in the Venezuela goal but both Alexandre Pato and Neymar looked in good form with such delicate control. The front four of Ganso, Robinho, Neymar and Pato were linking up well but could not seem to create that clear cut opportunity to get a goal.

The Brazilian defence did not look solid and Rondon looked like he had the power to make something of nothing up top for the Venezuelans, but the first real chance fell to Brazil. Dani Alves undertook one of his customary surges down the right wing before squaring the ball into the box to Pato. The Milan striker rolled the ball out of his feet and slammed it goalwards. His shot rattled the crossbar and the Brazilians could not maintain the pressure despite some moments of flair from Neymar.

Pato had another opportunity after a long ball from Ramires which he controlled sublimely, plucking it out of the air with one touch as he peeled off a defender. His shot could match the majesty of his touch and was straight into the keepers body, who despite spilling the ball briefly, had enough time to re-gather it. Brazil were playing some great football but just seemed to be trying to do too much and pass the ball in to the net. While their play was pleasing on the eye, they needed something more clinical in and around the box as they struggled to work Vega.

There was a penalty claim in the 39th minute when Neymar played a perfectly weighted ball into the path of Robinho in a 3-on-2 situation. The Brazilian tried to roll the ball back across the goal towards the far post. He beat the keeper but Vizcarrondo got back to block the shot with what looked to be his arm. The referee did not give the decision and the replays showed that he had made the correct choice as it hit the Venezuelans shoulder.

For all their possession, at the end of the first half Brazil had not scored and they went into the break still goalless. They started and finished strongly but the majority of the game lacked chances, and of the few there were, the finishing was poor.

The second half began just as stretched as the first but Brazil again struggled to create anything. Ganso was ineffectual and Neymar was pleasing to watch but not producing anything worthwhile.

Venezuela were by know means holding out for a draw and had their own chances as the match drew on. Arango caught the Brazilian defence napping and won the ball back in the opposing half. He clipped a lovely ball in towards Rondon but there was too much power and Julio Cesar caught the cross. They followed this up with a swift counter attack that saw a number of passes move the ball across the pitch from right to left where it reached Arango. His shot was not up to par and he snatched at it, dragging it across the goal without troubling Julio Cesar.

Lucas Moura, Elano and Fred all came on but did not have the desired impact. The game ended 0-0 which was a fantastic result for Venezuela. They will be extremely pleased with their result but the Brazilians will be wondering were it all went wrong. They struggled to create chances and were not clinical enough. Perhaps they paid the price for a fairly inexperienced forward line and needed something to give them another dimension, which I am unsure as to whether Fred has the quality for.

They need to be more clinical and could do with a player like Leandro Damiao or Hulk leading the line but Menezes has left them out of the squad. There are times when a different approach may be needed to help open up a defence and create chances, a more direct one perhaps. However Menezes squad selection will make this difficult to achieve. Questions will be asked back in Brazil as to whether this squad has enough experience to succeed after this display.

Join the Best Football Manager game now, Its Free!

Top 25 Best Wingers Of The Premier League Era

Arsenal FC

Aston Villa FC

Blackburn FC

Charlton Athletic FC

Chelsea FC

Coventry City FC

Everton FC

Features

Football and Soccer

Fulham FC

Have Your Say

Homepage

Leeds

Liverpool FC

Manchester City FC

Manchester United FC

Newcastle United FC

Premier League

Slideshow

Tottenham FC

Watford FC

West Ham FC

Andrei Kanchelskis

arjen robben

ashley young

chris waddle

Clint Dempsey

cristiano ronaldo

Damien Duff

David Beckham

David Ginola

David Silva

Freddie Ljungberg

gareth bale

Gordon Strachan

Harry Kewell

Joe cole

john barnes

John Salako

Marc Overmars

Nani

robert pires

robinho

ryan giggs

samir nasri

steve mcmanaman

stewart downing

Here is the definitive list of the best wingers in Premier League history to have graced the turf of Anfield, Old Trafford and Hillsborough. 25. If we concede a goal things will become even more difficult, but anything can happen in football.

“Unfortunately, we lost the home leg in a difficult match. And we conceded a goal when we were playing better. But that does not mean we cannot win there.

“They play in a different way, focusing on physical strength, plenty of crosses into the box. (Daily Mail)

It seems that Ac Milan are willing to make their move for the Brazilian and perhaps see him as a natural partner for newly arrived Zlatan Ibrahimovic, which would of course beg the question, “Where does Alexandre Pato go”. Marco Borriello could be on his way out of the San Siro which would leave room for the Man City man, but could he end up sitting on the bench at the Serie A club?

Roberto Mancini seemed unwilling to give the former Real Madrid man much of a look in since he arrived to replace Mark Hughes and a loan move to Santos last season seemed to confirm that the 26 year old had no future at Eastlands.

This move will apparently start out as a loan deal but if the Premier League side are lucky they may end up getting back around 50% of the big fee they paid for the talented striker back in 2008.

Join the Best Football Manager game now, Its Free!

AC Milan Ready to Take a Chance On Manchester City Misfit Robinho?

Features

Manchester City FC

Premier League

Serie A

Transfer Rumours

ac milan

robinho

Serie A giants ready to take a risk on Eastlands star. (Sky Sports)

So are Ac Milan taking a big risk by considering a move for the Brazilian? Or is there a chance of scoring something of a bargain by looking into brining the former Real Madrid man to the San Siro? There are reports suggesting that so keen is Roberto Mancini to rid the club of the 26 year old that he is willing to take around £14-16m to cut their losses.

Clearly there are issues behind the scenes and in the dressing room that have made the chances of Robinho ever representing Man City an impossibility, however that doesn’t mean that on pure footballing terms he would walk into the team, wouldn’t he?

The talented attacked had a great first season at Eastlands but then the sacking of Mark Hughes pretty much seemed a death knell for the player who then went out on loan to Santos in order to keep himself match fit ahead of a World Cup that he did fairly well in.

The idea he may go to AC has a lot to with whether the new boss Massimiliano Allegri can find the funds to land Barcelona forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic, which seems unlikely as Barcelona want silly money for the Swede, making a move for second choice Robinho a distinct possibility.

Join the Best Football Manager game now, Its Free!
