Poor old Ronald Koeman, The man whom they affectionately call Tintin in Spain is now trudging on like an out of sorts Captain Haddock. His Valencia side are just above the relegation zone in 11th place in La Liga and if the pressure from the fans and the media alike wasn’t enough, the players too have commenced hinting at their disapproval of the Dutchman.
Goal.com quotes the Valencia winger Joaquin as saying that things have got worse since the arrival of Koeman in early November. He told Marca:
Since the coach joined, the situation has been deteriorating. Sometimes we’ve shown improvement in individual matches, but not so often – that decreases our confidence even more. The squad is working hard, despite the doubts. It’s hard to get out of this situation, but we’re the only one who’ll fix it.” Everything hits us – the dismissal of Quique as well as the controversy that followed. The squad has been affected, and it’s evident that things aren’t going well. It’s a hard situation because they were important players for so long. It was hard, for although we didn’t want to rock the boat and make comments, they were strong squad members and the team didn’t take it too well. I don’t know what I’d have done in that situation… there may have been problems. It’s all very difficult.
Now that players too have started chipping in, apparently targeting their coach, maybe Koeman should now realize that he can no longer control the situation. It would be for the best interest of the club that Koeman resigns. Maybe President Juan Soler should now try and seek the address of Quique Sanchez Flores who was given the sack at 4.23am in late late October. Bring Quique back!
Goal.com reports that Jose Mourinho could be on his way to Valencia. The current coach of the beleaguered Spanish club, Ronald Koeman, is under tremendous pressure after sinking the ship since he took over way back in November and there is a massive chance that club ppresident Juan Soler could sack the Dutchman and appoint the Portuguese in his place.
The former Chelsea manager was already approached prior to Soler appointing Koeman as the coach of Valencia but the Special One refused since at the time he was expecting a better and more high profile job, speculated to be the Ac Milan job. Since then Valencia have gone downhill and are currently closer to the relegation zone than to UEFA Champions League places.
But now speculation has once again flared up pertaining to the Jose Mourinho-Valencia affair. It has been reported that should Mourinho accept the Valencia offer, then by the end of the week Koeman would be on the streets looking for another job.
It’s almost final now. The Daily Telegraph reports that Liverpool hard man Mohamed Sissoko is on his way to Italy and Juventus this week. The British newspaper quotes the 22-year old Mali international as saying:
It’s a matter of a few days.Three days, a maximum of four, and then everything will be decided. I know there has been some movement but we have to wait. I confess that wearing the Juventus shirt would be the maximum for me.
So all is settled now and there are no tears, except maybe those of Valencia manager Ronald Koeman who was keen on bringing the anchoring medio back to Valencia. Sissoko has been sulking on the Liverpool for much of the season and he is certainly all joy after almost securing his move to Juve.
Oh, but do read this quote.
I confess that wearing the Juventus shirt would be the maximum for me. I have been a Juve fan since I was a child because when I was young I was fixated with (Zinedine) Zidane. Then, having followed this team, I have become a fan of (Juve captain Alessandro) Del Piero, a great player.
Now, isn’t this something that most, if not all footballers, remark about the club that they move to?
Valencia are going through yet another painful crisis and this time both the manager and the President have seem to be up a heavy stump. Valencia are closer to the relegation zone than to a UEFA Champions League place and Ronald Koeman’s idea to banish three senior pros of the club for flimsy reason is haunting them.
Sky Sports reports that disgruntled and visibly bemused David Albelda, the captain of Valencia till mid-December, has demanded the club to tell him why they are not letting him go to another club. Albelda, Santiago Canizares and Miguel Angel Angulo, all veterans of the club, were kicked out of the team by Koeman late last month. All three have been told that they’ll never wear the Valencia shirt again and it appears that President Juan Soler is determined to see that the trio do not don any other club’s shirt either.
Albelda says that he has been told that he wouldn’t be sold unless the recruiting club meets his buy-out clause which is whooping €60 million. Fulham manager Roy Hodgson has expressed his interest in signing Albelda but obviously the Premiership strugglers cannot rack up the millions that Valencia demand.
Albelda told EFE:
The coach and the technical staff in general have not looked at me and have undervalued me since December 18, I do not deserve what they are doing to me and the truth is that I do not know the reason and I would like to. The fans also have the right to know about the reasons as so much has been said and speculated about. I just hope they do explain. I renewed with Valencia and turned down higher offers to stay here with my hometown club. I do not know about all the other stuff, I just know that when clubs have come in to ask about me they have been told me buy-out clause price. I just want to play football and the coach and the president are stopping. Every day they are making my life more impossible and forcing me out of the club.
Valencia are a club with good resources and perhaps the only club in La Liga who can challenge the Real Madrid-FC Barcelona duopoly in the long run. Yet they have consistently been failed by their erratic and insane boardroom tactics.
Valencia are set to lose another key player but you wouldn’t discern Tottenham Hotspur complaining about that. Goal.com reports that Spurs are ready to take the Portuguese full back Miguel from the Mestalla after the 28-year old Portuguese international fell out wit Valencia manager Ronald Koeman.
Koeman appears to be dropping all the senior players in his side and appears to be dropping points too. He is already under immense pressure by the Valencia fans who would be more than glad to see the back of him.
Spurs manager Jaunde Ramos is a long time admirer of Miguela and given his connections in Spain, it is more likely that should Miguel indeed end up in the Premiership this month, he could well end up at White Hart Lane. Ramos desires to strengthen his backline to boost Spurs’ chances of playing in Europe next season.
Portsmouth have been shoved into transfer speculation once again. As if the continuous media circus on manager Harry Redknapp weren’t enough, it appears that key midfielder Sulley Muntari could just be heading out of Fratton Park too.
Goal.com has reported that Valencia manager Ronald Koeman, who is frantic about wringing some pivotal changes in the team, is chasing the Ghanaian international midfielder from Portsmouth. Koeman requires a defensive midfielder after dropping captain David Albelda from his plans and was originally chasing Liverpool’s Mohamed Sissoko.
But now that Sissoko is almost certain to join Italian giants Juventus, Koeman appears to be running for Muntari. Redknapp is disinclined to let the former Udinese player leave but Muntari has already set his eyes on big European clubs and it’s no secret that he would jump ship should a big offer is presented on the table.
Muntari is currently with his national team Ghana at the African Cup of Nations. Portsmouth manager Redknapp has already underlined his importance in the team and is a huge admirer of the 23-year player. Should Muntari indeed leave this January, how do you think Pompey will cope without him?
Mohamed Sissoko is a fall out boy at Liverpool but the 22-year old Malian international certainly seems to be in hot demand elsewhere. The Italian papers have been all over him linking him to a January move to Italian giants Juventus and, according to this Sky Sports report, now the Spanish club Valencia have joined in the race to acquire the apparently precious signature of the talented but volatile defensive midfielder.
Valencia manager Ronald Koeman has expressed interest in Sissoko and is reported to be keen on importing the player back to the Mestalla. Sissoko was signed by Liverpool from Valencia in 2005 and although the player impressed in his first two season at Anfield, he has fallen out with the club after criticizing manager Rafael Benitez for his rotation policy.
The arrival of Javier Mascherano, another young defensive medio, in January last year has pushed Sissoko to the sidelines and the player has been restricted to a handful of starts so far this season. Sissoko earlier revealed that he is close to signing a deal with Juventus and would fly over to Turin inside this month and now Valencia have joined in the race.
Valencia are 7th in La Liga at the moment and while all dreams of the domestic title have been crushed, there is yet a flicker of hope that they might just clinch a UEFA Champions League spot. Koeman made his first January signing last week when he picked up Ever Banega from River Plate and is ready to splash out money to get a defensive midfielder. Last month, Koeman decided to dump veteran anchorman in midfield David Albelda and is ready to replace him with Sissoko.
