Liverpool haven’t won at the Reebok Stadium for three heavily limping years and Bolton Wanderers striker Samuel El Hadji Diouf says that the Reds could fail again when they visit the Reebok this weekend in the Premiership.
El Hadji Diouf was formerly at Liverpool and was sold by Rafael Benitez and obviously the Senegalese international striker is eager to make a point or two against his former club. He hails Bolton’s record against one of the biggest teams in Europe and says:
We have done very well against Liverpool over the years as we have always stuck to playing the football which suits us.
We have played our football and have always believed in ourselves. We need to do that again.
Liverpool are a good team with good players, but if we play our football then we can beat them like we do every season.
Every game is a big game for us now, not just because we’re playing Liverpool or Man United. We need to win football games and be fantastic.
But maybe Liverpool will break their Reebok jinx. After all, for the last seasons Sam Allardyce was in charge and Bolton were much better off then than they are now with Gary Megson in charge and the team battling to avoid the drop. So in all probabilities, Liverpool should be favourites for this match.
Senegal international striker Samuel El-Hadji Diouf is set to return to the Bolton starting line-up this weekend, according to IOL.
Last week the former Liverpool striker was on the bench as Bolton beat fellow relegation candidates Reading since he had just returned from Africa Cup of Nations duty. This weekend it’s possible Diouf will play from the start against UEFA Cup hopefuls Portsmouth.
Pompey, watch out!
Samuel El-Hadji Diouf’s African Nations’ Cup adventure might have terminated in shame and disgrace after his national team Senegal crashed out of the competition from the group stage and he himself was fined for clubbing out at night but try selling that to Bolton Wanderers! Bolton manager Gary Megson is more than just happy that his key striker is returning from Africa this morning.
The Bolton News reports that Diouf could be ready to face Reading in a relegation six-pointer this weekend. Although details of his travel arrangement haven’t been leaked out to the press, it has been reported that club owner Eddie Davies’ private jet is on a stand-by just in case.
Diouf might still posses some of his old magic but with the passage of time, the darker side of his character has come to the fore. Disciplinary records and fines imposed on him for misbehavior run into numbers and he was once again at the heart of the off-the-pitch headlines that Senegal grabbed at the African Nation’ Cup when he was left out of the side that faced South Africa because of visiting a nightclub two nights before the match. This Diouf is really one spoilt brat who has let all his early career boom (which now seem prehistoric) into his head!
