Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas admits he is no saint but he did not direct any racist abuse toward Sevilla’s Frederic Kanoute during a heated encounter on Saturday.

The two players were involved in an altercation which saw Kanoute sent off and Fabregas facing accusations he racially insulted the Mali striker.

While Fabregas immediately denied the reports on Twitter, the allegations continue to haunt him.

“Like every other football player, I’m no saint, but I never said anything racist and no one is saying any different,” the Spain international said today

Fabregas says he has already held clear the air talks with Kanoute.

In England, police are investigating Chelsea’s John Terry following allegations he racially abused Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand during a match.

The Football Association are also launching an inquiry as well as determining whether Liverpool striker Luis Suarez directed racial slurs towards man United’s Patrice Evra.

As yet, the Spanish FA have done nothing.

Meanwhile Faregas’ team-mate Pedro has been ruled out for two weeks with an ankle injury.

A statement read: “The club’s medical services’ first examinations revealed he had not suffered a broken bone, but had damaged the tendons in his left ankle and is expected to be out for between 10 and 16 days.”

Sevilla goalkeeper Javi Varas is being linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer.
The 29-year-old has hit the headlines in Spain after saving Lionel Messi’s penalty at the weekend, with Los Rojiblancos holding Barca to a 0-0 draw in La Liga, allowing Levante to take a shock lead in the table.
Cadena Ser reports that Arsene Wenger has put the keeper on his Arsenal radar, with the Frenchman eager to strengthen his goalkeeping ranks at the Emirates.
The report goes on to claim Wenger has asked for additional reports on the player as he weighs up his options, whilst a handful of other stoppers are thought to be of interest to Arsenal.
Wojciech Szczesny has made the No.1 jersey his own in north London after a fine start to the campaign, but with Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski tipped to leave the club next year, experience could be key to providing some competition to the Arsenal first choice.

So just when manager Arsene Wenger has finally found a goalkeeper that can fill the shoes of David Seaman and Jens Lehmann, is he really going to spend cash on another shot-stopper?

Wojciech Szczesny has emerged this season as one of the best goalies in the Premier League and on current form, could be argued he is the best in the country.

It is highly unlikely Wenger, notoriously tight with his cash, will spend large amounts on another keeper.

Especially when there are other more pressing matters, like in defence, in midfield, on the wing and a back-up/replacement for Robin van Persie.

Givemefootball does raise an interesting point about the likely departures of Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski but to go out and spend money unnecessarily is not Wenger’s style.

The Frenchman already has two more keepers coming up through the ranks, who he rates very highly.

Vito Mannone has had a stint in the first-team and played well – pulling off some fine saves – and only lost his place through injury. Last season he had a successful loan spell at Hull.

The other candidate is James Shea, who was born in Islington and has been asked to train with the England national team. He is currently on-loan at Dagenham and Redbridge.

So Arsenal fans should not expect a deal for Varas, who could be available for around £5million, to go through unless Wenger undergoes a brain transplant between now and the end of May.
