Manchester City have confirmed that a number of the club’s players and back room staff have been affected by an outbreak of Swine Flu.

Vladimir Weiss, the highly-rated Slovakian youngster, is believed to have been the first to contract the H1N1 strain of the virus last week and was told to remain at home for last Saturday’s 2-1 win over Chelsea at Eastlands.
The club have also reported that Craig Bellamy, the Welsh international striker who missed the visit of Carlo Ancelotti’s team, is also suffering from a mild case of the virus, though he is believed to be over the worst. Several members of Mark Hughes’s back-room team have reported similar, flu-like symptoms.

Both players are thought to be making progress and Manchester City expect them to return to training tomorrow, making them available for selection for the club’s Premier League trip to Bolton on Saturday.
“There is a little bit of it creeping into the camp,” Mark Bowen, the City assistant manager, said. “Players come in every day with sniffles, coughs and colds and the doctor has to determine whether it is the onset of something more serious. It is his decision whether they have to be sent home.”
City suffered a Swine Flu scare earlier this year when Micah Richards, the defender, contracted the virus while on holiday in Cyprus, initially believing he was suffering from alcohol poisoning. (Telegraph)

Three Blackburn Rovers players and two members of staff have caught H1N1 swine flu but Tuesday’s League Cup Fourth Round match against Peterborough United will go ahead as scheduled, the Premier League club said.
“There has been a lot of speculation in the national media following confirmation of sickness within the camp, but we can reassure all supporters the match will go ahead as planned,” club secretary Andrew Pincher confirmed in a statement on Blackburn’s website on Monday.
Manager Sam Allardyce told reporters three players had contracted the virus, with Chris Samba and David Dunn two of the those who missed Saturday’s 5-0 Premier League drubbing at Chelsea.
“We have had more cases this morning, one more player and there are a couple of staff.”
Premier League rules do not allow clubs to call off matches because of outbreaks of Swine Flu following guidelines issued earlier in the year.
The postponement of a Ligue 1 match between Olympique Marseille and Paris St Germain in France on Sunday because of an outbreak of the virus among PSG players led to clashes between rival fans with police making 18 arrests. (Four Four Two)

I am sure there are many Blackburn Rovers fans who would have wished the Swine Flu outbreak could have occurred prior to their 5-0 mauling at the hands of Chelsea, that way they could have potentially tried to get the game called off.

Considering that the two players named are top notch first team regulars you would have thought they could have successfully have appealed to have the game called off but as its the Carling Cup maybe they are happy to go ahead and take their chances against a struggling Peterborough side.
