Eastlands boss Mark Hughes is launching a move of earth-shaking consequences. According to the Guardian, the Welshman wants to partner Chelsea defender Tal Ben Haim with Man City’s very own Dunny Monster. [Read the rest of this entry »]
In a recent poll as to which Grant they’d like in charge of their team, 37% of Chelsea fans voted for reggae musician Eddy Grant, 24% voted for astrologer Russell Grant, while 16% went for Grant off Eastenders. Despite such unpopularity (that may have just been made up by COS), Avram Grant is sticking to his guns and you can’t blame him. We actually think he’s done a decent job since Mourinho left and that he’s just an easy target when the Blues lose.
The Daily Mail report that the Israeli doesn’t fear for his job in the summer, despite the predictable speculation surrounding his future. Many might argue he’s done very well to steer the team within reach of the Premier League title, while they have every chance of winning the Champions League. Avram is also going to have an interesting conversation with Tal Ben Haim after the defender unwisely spoke out against him today.
“Realistically, we never had a chance from the moment I arrived because we were behind the leaders,” he said.
“I think the pressure is on us but we’ve come from nowhere to fight for the title
“I’m not even thinking about my future, even if I have a contract. If the club are happy with me then I’ll continue. There’s no issue.
On his rebellious defender, he said:
“The matter will be deal with internally and if I think he was wrong we’ll deal with it in our way. I need to talk to Tal and see what he has to says first.”
To suggest that Chelsea have come from nowhere is a bit rich. While they may have closed the gap in recent months, the Blues were never a million miles behind Manchester United and both of these teams benefited from Arsenal spluttering towards the line. However, it’s a shame that this fellow is being hounded by the media just for trying to do his job – it seems to go with the territory these days.
Avram Grant was criticised this week for leaving Joe Cole out of the starting XI that faced Wigan on Monday. Many fans at Stamford Bridge chanted ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’ at the Chelsea manager and according to The Sun, Tal Ben Haim might have been joining in.
You might be forgiven for thinking that Grant would look to include his fellow countryman in the team on a fairly regular basis, but the truth is that the former Bolton player has barely had a look in since Jose Mourinho left the club last year. And he’s not too happy about it!
He said: “Jose Mourinho is the reason I came to Chelsea and if I knew Avram Grant was going to be the coach then I would have signed for another club.
“It was Jose who brought me here and no one except he and I know the conversation we had when he tried to sign me the first time a year ago last January.
“The fact is while Jose was the coach I played most of the games and people who know me know that I would not have come here to be a reserve.
“I knew that nothing good would come with Grant as Chelsea coach.”
With Ricardo Carvalho and John Terry back from injury and Alex also ahead of Ben Haim in the pecking order, it’s surely a matter of time before the defender leaves for pastures new. You would imagine a middling club such as Aston Villa, West Ham or even Tottenham would be keen on signing a player who was an integral part of Sam Allardyce’s later success at the Reebok.
..If they sign Tal Ben Haim that is…Sun journo Andrew Dillon is bellowing in our faces with the glorious headline: Ram raid for £8m Ben Haim..Yep you read it here second, Tottenham’s Juande Ramos is after Chelsea’s Israeli centreback Tal Ben Haim. The Spaniard believes that if he waves £8million under the noses of the Chelsea big-wigs they will allow the Israel star to leave and that Ben Haim will be able to shore up Spurs’ porous defence.
Dillon writes:
“Ramos is desperate for reinforcements in defence and Israeli ace Ben Haim is ready to call it quits at the Blues after an unhappy first six months at the club.
“Chelsea’s £8.9m swoop for Serbian defender Branislav Ivanovic last week has confirmed to Ben Haim, 25, that his Stamford Bridge future is bleak.
“With skipper John Terry sidelined with a broken foot, Ben Haim was hoping to get more first-team action.”
And with Ramos turning his nose up at Younes Kaboul and Michael Dawson he has pinpointed Tal Ben Haim as a potential partner for Tottenham captain Ledley King.
