Toulouse battler Andre Pierre Gignac appears to get better and better, the no nonsense powerhouse scoring a great double in the Ligue 1 side’s win over Sochaux and further justifying a potential move to the Premier League where his playing style would surely be ideally suited.
It was clear that Bolton were short of firepower last season, as they narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League. Manager Gary Megson has certainly taken a huge step to avoiding this scenario next season by [Read the rest of this entry »]
There’s no doubting that both clubs could do with some extra firepower ahead of next season, but which one will win the ‘race’ to sign this talented forward? [Read the rest of this entry »]
Kevin Keegan has made it clear that he needs to make three or four important signings this summer (as well as re-signing Michael Owen) if Newcastle want any chance of making a move up the Premiership table next year. Setanta is reporting that Newcastle might be interested in signing Toulouse midfielder Achille Emana, if the price is right.
The agent of Cameroon midfielder Achille Emana has stated his client’s interest in a move to The Premier League, amid reported interest from Newcastle. (Setanta)
While Emana might not be the big name Newcastle fans were looking for, he seems to epitomize the mid-level quality transfer targets being linked with Newcastle this summer. He was a key cog on the Cameroon side that fell to Egypt in the African Cup of Nations final, so he does have some quality. But Toon supporters have to be wondering if this is as good as it’s going to get.
Is Emana quality enough to be one of the three or four players Keegan signs this summer, or would you rather he look somewhere else?
Poor old Gary Megson, if only he had £22 million! The Bolton Wanderers manager has been quoted as saying that he could have has signed Toulouse forward Johan Elmander if he could only dig into his pocket and brought out the amount demanded by the French club.
Bolton were in talks with Toulouse in January over a possible move for Elmander and were ready to pay a considerable £9 million but that was not even half the amount that the French club wanted for the striker.
Megson says:
His club wanted £22 million. It was never going to happen at that price.
Where would modest and struggling Bolton rack up the massive £22 million? Spending that much of a money on a single player who will be another Johnny Foreigner in the Premiership would be a huge gamble, to say the least. Moreover, is Johan Elmander as good as his supposed price tag suggests he is? I have my doubts, what about you?
Now there is a funny love story, an awesome foursome really. There are three guys and one girl and all the guys want the girl with some desperation. They are ready to spend as much money as they can and are all too eager to impress the girl to lure her to their respective domains.
Te girl in question is the Toulouse forward Johan Elmander and his potential courtiers are Spanish giants l Madrid, Premiership high flyers Manchester City and Premiership strugglers Tottenham Hotspur. ESPN Soccernet reports that a spokesman for the French club has confirmed to the Swedish newspaper Expressen about the amusing triangle building around the 26-year Swedish international.
The spokesman told the newspaper:
Besides Real Madrid, Premier League clubs Manchester City and Tottenham have already expressed interest.
Elamander was a key figure in guiding Toulouse to a UEFA Champions League qualifier this season and is rated highly as striker in France. Now that interest in him has been confirmed, the player could face some dilemma over which club to join.
Joining Real Madrid would certainly assign him to the Bernabeu dugout where he would have to warm the bench along with a host of top draw players. Joining Man City could provide him with more chances but wouldn’t necessarily guarantee him first team action right form the start. Spurs would provide Elmander with more games since Spurs manager Juande Ramos has made it clear that he is looking for strikers but Elmander might not relish the scenario of moving to a club struggling in the Premiership.
