Liverpool are reportedly considering bidding for Werder Bremen playmaker Diego who this list week was fined a massive €500,000 (£443,000) for storming out of the club’s hotel when learning he was not to start the club’s final game of last season. The Brazilian international is said to be keen on leaving the Bundesliga side whom he joined last summer.

The unsettled playmaker is said to be on Anfield director of football Damien Comolli’s transfer wish-list and the 26 year old may be offloaded by Wolfsburg boss Felix Magath. The former Juventus man also was fined earlier in the season for taking a penalty, which he subsequently missed, which he was not designated to take.

Diego’s overall form over the last campaign was mixed but the pint sized midfielder did weigh in with crucial performances that eventually help steer Wolfsburg away from relegation in what was a very poor season for the club overall. The Volkswagen backed side had won the title back in 2008/09 but finished last season in 15th spot in the Bundesliga, during which time Steve McClaren was fired and star striker Edin Dzeko was sold to Man City.

Liverpool are keen to bring in more creative talent and are said to be closing in on Blackpool talisman Charlie Adam and having already signed Sunderland youngster Jordan Henderson, Kenny Dalglish is expected to bring in further signings to help push his side back into the top four next term.

Diego had been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool during Rafa Benitez’s spell at the club and the much traveled midfielder may be looking for a fresh start after stuttering seasons with Juventus and Wolfsburg.

Having already declared it an ‘honour’ to be linked with a move to Liverpool it appears that Kenny Dalglish is ready to make a substantial offer for the £15m rated Brazilian international. The Wolfsburg playmaker has moved closer to the exit after the Bundesliga side expressed an interest in Tottenham squad player Niko Kranjcar as a possible replacement for the former Juventus man.

Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli has been monitoring Diego for some time and will be given the go ahead to make an offer for the 26 year old who had an up and down time last term as Wolfsburg struggled for form and sacked boss Steve McClaren mid way through the season.

The Anfield club has been looking at adding more creativity to help link midfield and attack and Diego could well be the ideal man for the job. The former Santos and Porto man had his best years at Werder Bremen which led to a high profile move to Juventus which became something of a damp squib as the Turin side went through something of a nightmare before finding his way back to Germany last summer.

Liverpool would hope that Diego could help provide the ammunition for strikers Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll and help support Steven Gerrard in his efforts to drive the Merseyside attacks.

Liverpool are chasing Wolfsburg midfielder Diego.

Kop Director of Football Damien Comolli has run the rule over the attacking midfielder, 26.

His German side will now flog the ex-Juventus star for a cut-price £9million after he quit their pre-match camp on Saturday.

Diego, who is ‘honoured’ by Reds’ interest, stormed out after being told he would only be a sub.

Liverpool were linked with a move for pint sized flair player Diego during Rafa Benitez’s reign at the club and it’s fair to say that the Brazilian’s career has stumbled somewhat since he left Werder Bremen in the summer of 2009. A move to Juventus should have catapulted the attacking midfielder into a new tier personally but it never quite happened in Turin.

A move back to Germany brought Diego to a Wolfsburg side who were embroiled in various on and off field problems. Steve McClaren was axed, star striker Edin Dzeko was sold but all in all the 26 year old playmaker has shown signs of a return to form when called upon. However his recent flare up at being named as a sub has meant that an exit is on the cards.

If Liverpool can nab such a gifted footballer for £9m then that would be an absolute steal. Damien Comolli has been looking at various continental based players who can add creativity to the club’s attacking third and in many ways Diego would be the perfect player to make a move for.

The Merseyside club are looking for players who can work well and provide ammunition for Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll. They are also looking for wide men but perhaps the addition of a player who can play in the hole behind the strikers, as Diego can, would negate the need to bring in wingers.

Kenny Dalglish may also be the right sort of manager to be able to deal with the temperamental issues that would come with the signing of the former Santos and Porto man, a player who frequently comes to blows with coaches, managers and team-mates.

On the subject of creativity in the final third the likes of Raul Meireles and Steven Gerrard obviously do link midfield and attack but perhaps Diego is a more direct weapon in that regard. There would perhaps be an argument that such a slightly built player may struggle to cope with the physicality of the Premier League but players like Lucas could perhaps provide the protection to his fellow countrymen.

Roger Johnson has emerged as a target for Liverpool after director of football Damien Comolli ran the rule over Birmingham City’s centre back.

Kenny Dalglish is in the market for a defender this summer and Johnson, who was recently called up to the provisional England squad, is nearing the end of a second impressive season at St Andrew’s.

The 27-year-old, who has only one year remaining on his contract after signing from Cardiff for £5million in 2009, is refusing to talk about contracts until Birmingham’s Barclays Premier League future is secured. Coincidentally, City face Liverpool on Saturday.

As well as potential moves to bring in Birmingham City defender Roger Johnson Liverpool are also strongly linked with a move for Wolfsburg’s highly rated Danish international Simon Kjaer who moved to the Bundesliga last summer only to see his former title winning side nosedive dramatically as well as seeing the boss who purchased him, Steve McClaren, axed.

Kenny Dalglish is looking to make significant changes to his Anfield squad for next term and appears to have earmarked his defence as an area that needs improvement. Given that Jamie Carragher and Sotirios Kyrgiakos are both getting on a bit and that Daniel Agger has constant injury concerns, moves to bring in reinforcements makes a great deal of sense. The club can at least rely on reliable Slovakian international Martin Skrtel and also have youngster Danny Wilson to call upon.

Roger Johnson has been a hugely consistent performer since his move to St Andrews’ two years ago and it is largely down to the 27 year old and his partnership with Scott Dann, another Liverpool target who is now injured, that Alex McLeish’s side are so hard to beat. Whilst the former Cardiff and Wycombe man may not be the most spectacular of signings he is a player who gives 110% and could provide some extra steel at the back.

Simon Kjaer at 22 has the footballing world at his feet and looks like he may push to leave Wolfsburg this summer after seeing the club perform disastrously this term. Felix Magath has returned to the club but has not been able to arrest the slide down the table that has left the title winners of 2008/09 sitting in 16th place in the relegation play-off zone.

Liverpool’s new owners appear ready to offer Dalglish significant financial backing this summer having brought in Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll using the money accrued from the sales of Fernando Torres and Ryan Babel and these two potential signings are realistic and relatively inexpensive ways to improve their defence.

Bayern Munich have entered the race to sign Liverpool target Simon Kjaer, according to Inside Futbol.

The Denmark international was one of the most sought-after targets of last summer’s transfer window with many of Europe’s big clubs casting their eye over him including Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Juventus. It was therefore a real coup for Steve McClaren, then Wolfsburg manager, to persuade him to swap Palermo for Wolfsburg. Since then, however, the former England manager has departed as well as his successor Pierre Littbarski and several players have been linked to an exit from the Volkswagen Arena.

£13m rated Simon Kjaer left Palermo for Wolfsburg last summer hopeful that the former Bundesliga winners, under the then new manager Steve McClaren, would battle back to their best but it hasn’t quite worked out that way. The 22 year old Danish international drew a lot of attention following two successful seasons in Serie A and it surprised many that the centre back opted for a move to a side who had done from title holders to mid table in the space of season.

This term Wolfsburg have continued to sink like a stone and are presently in the relegation zone and did of course sell their prized goalscoring possession Edin Dzeko to Man City in the January sales. Now Liverpool have come calling and the talented and composed centre back may well consider leaving Germany for Merseyside.

Director of football Damien Comolli is reportedly interested in bringing Kjaer to Liverpool and a move to bring in further defensive options would appear to be a wise one. Jamie Carragher and Sotirios Kyrgiakos are getting on a bit and Daniel Agger has suffered with injuries. The club did of course bring in young Scottish international Danny Wilson from Rangers but he may be too raw for a regular first team spot.

Wolfsburg midfielder Diego is thrilled by the interest of Liverpool.

Liverpool have been linked with the Brazilian, who only moved to struggling Wolfsburg in August from Juventus.

Diego has been watched by Reds football chief Damien Comolli and is aware of the rumours linking him with a move to Anfield.

“I am honored that such a club has set their eyes on me,” said Diego.

“They are one of the most prestigious teams in the world. Playing for them would be an honour.”

26 year old Brazilian playmaker Diego has had something of a bumpy first season at Wolfsburg, having been pretty inconsistent at times, to angering former boss Steve McClaren by missing a penalty he wasn’t supposed to take and reportedly generally falling out with all and sundry. I am therefore not surprised he would be keen on a move to Liverpool.

Given also that Wolfsburg may get relegated it seems even likely the former Werder Bremen and Juventus man would be pushing for a move away from the Volkswagen run club. Could Kenny Dalglish use the flair player though?

Liverpool have seen the likes of Lucas and Raul Meireles really up their game and one would imagine that Steven Gerrard would also be that touch of added creativity so how would Diego fit in at the Merseyside club, a club that is happy to allow talented Italian international Alberto Aquilani leave for Juventus.

Clearly Diego is a good player but perhaps his signing would be little more than a luxury back up that the club could do without, not least if, as speculated, he can be a dressing room disruption.
