Liverpool are set to go up against Juventus in the battle to sign Portuguese international centre-back Bruno Alves, playing with with Zenit Saint-Petersbourg.
It has been reported that the 29 year old was Juventus bound, however it now appears, according to reports in Italy, that Juventus face strong opposition from Liverpool who are looking to add Alves experience to their defence.
Alves is noted for his strength, tough tackling and aerial ability. He spent most of his professional career at F.C. Porto, winning a total of nine titles, seven as first-choice.
On 3 August 2010, aged 28, Alves signed with Russian Premier League’s FC Zenit for €22 million, joining compatriots Danny and Fernando Meira in the squad. Upon his arrival, head coach Luciano Spalletti described him as a very important player for the team, noting his experience, ability in the air and strong character.
No fee has been mentioned but it is thought that at least £20 Million will be required to even tempt Zenit in to opening up negotiations.

Not only do the spelling(Petersbourg) and grammatical (alves) errors make this story unlikely to be true but also this will go against the new Liverpool mantra.

Since Kenny Dalglish has returned as manager he has, rightly or wrongly, pursued a philosophy of buying young British players (Luis Suarez and Jose Enrique the exceptions).

So why would he change that to buy a 29-year-old Portuguese international who is valued at £20million?

There are better options around in Europe for that sort of money: Dortmund’s Neven Subotic and Mats Hummels for starters.

But Liverpool are in dire need of strengthening elsewhere, with another striker to support Suarez and Andy Carroll needed and even one more winger.

So Liverpool fans do not panic, the arrival of Bruno Alves is as unlikely as Jason Roberts getting a game for Barcelona.

Chelsea Star Would Move To Play Regular Football

Stamford Bridge star will quit club for Russia.

Chelsea defender Yuri Zhirkov has had no contact with Dinamo Moscow over a move this summer but admits he would leave if an offer came in.

The 27-year-old joined the Blues two-years ago for £18million from CSKA Moscow but has failed to establish himself ahead of Ashley Cole in the starting XI.

The Russia international has been linked with a move back to Russia with Dinamo and Zenit St Petersburg rumoured to be interested.

But Zhirkov, who would love to become a Chelsea regular, admits he will have to leave to play more football.

“I haven’t talked to anyone from Dinamo,” Zhirkov told Sovetsky Sport.

“On the one hand, I am a player of Chelsea, a club with rich traditions, and I will make everything possible to establish myself there.

“On the other hand, during my two years in London I could not boast regular performances and if there were good offers from Russia, why not consider them?

“However, it would be a difficult choice to make.

“Now there is nothing concrete and there’s, actually, nothing to talk about. My situation is not so severe.

“Though, I wouldn’t lie, Chelsea is the primary option for me, while Russia is the secondary one.”

Emmanuel Adebayor Laughs Off Talk Of Blackburn Move

Eastlands star wants to go to a title challenging team.

Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has dismissed speculation linking him with a summer move to Blackburn Rovers.

The 27-year-old says he wants to move to a club where he will be challenging for trophies and not mid-table obscurity.

The ex-Togo international spent the second half of last season on-loan at Real Madrid and helped the Spanish giants win the Copa del Rey.

Adebayor has also been strongly linked with Paris Saint Germain and Zenit St Petersburg but has not given up hope of a permanent move to Real.

“I say thank you to PSG for thinking of me but for all the respect I owe them, I will not go there,” Adebayor said. “At Real, I got a taste for what it’s like winning a trophy.

“I can only go where we play to win a trophy or win the championship and not to play mid-table.

“It is clear that I will not (win trophies) at Zenit or Blackburn.”

“I’d like to stay with Los Merengues,” he said. “But you know I am a footballer and what is important is to play football whether it’s Manchester City or elsewhere.

“For now, I take my holidays with my family and after, when I go back to my club, we’ll see.”
