Nottingham Forest and Derby County Don’t Like Each Other (Video)

by Mad Dog and Glory on September 1st, 2009 30 comments
  • Digg

There is no love lost between these two but one has to question the wisdom shown by Forest striker Nathan Tyson, who picked up a corner flag and waved it in front of the Derby fans who must have been puzzled at first by the bizarre gestures. Also amazingly no one was sent off in the bad tempered encounter, which must have caused a few punters to lose their seemingly obvious bets (yes that includes me!). Second video includes Robbie Savage seemingly made out of paper!

New respect initiative, yet no incentive to improve quality of match officials

by vou_snipes89 on September 17th, 2008 2 comments
  • Digg

The new initiative made by the FA in the close season seems to be working from what we have seen in the opening four games of the 08/09 season. Referees are no longer being surrounded by a whole team in outrage of a bad decision and managers seem to be content to show more of a regressive display towards match officials. However, is this really improving the standard of refereeing in the country or is it just putting less pressure on mistake-prone officials? Seemingly, the latter is proving to be correct.

Hapless Derby County are approaching a milestone. Can they achieve the treble?

by Dan Alvarez on September 8th, 2008 6 comments
  • Digg

What were you doing on the 17th September 2007? I know what Derby County was doing. Winning a Premier League match against a struggling, Keegan-less Newcastle United side. I hope the Derby fans had a helluva day out, because that win directly preceded their streak of 36 consecutive league matches without a win (353 days). [Read the rest of this entry »]

Derby defender ‘will be disciplined severely’ after unauthorised loan move

by stresster on August 29th, 2008 no comments
  • Digg

It’s not much fun being a County fan at the moment. The Rams were a laughing stock in the Premier League last season, winning just one match all term. Things have not gone much better this campaign, despite manager Paul Jewell spending plenty of cash to try and bounce back into the top flight at the first time of asking. It now appears as though their players are trying to get away from the club as fast as they can! [Read the rest of this entry »]

Has Derby manager run out of games to save himself?

by stresster on August 26th, 2008 no comments
  • Digg

Paul Jewell arrived at Pride Park full of optimism and was confident that he could improve Derby’s fortunes. However, it appears as though the Rams were a lot better off two seasons ago (apart from financially of course) when Billy Davies was at the helm, steering the underdogs to promotion at the first time of asking. It now appears as though the scouser could be joining his predecessor as a former County manager. [Read the rest of this entry »]

TOP CLASS Arsenal youngster sent out to gain valuable experience

by Mr Comfort on August 20th, 2008 2 comments

It’s a win/win thing as one of Wenger’s top youngsters gets a decent grounding of experience, and Derby County get a player who could well help them in their pursuit of promotion!

Derby County and ex-Everton defender forced to quit the game

by stresster on August 20th, 2008 1 comment
  • Digg

Despite footballers being paid a sackload of cash, it’s always a shame to hear about injury bringing an end to their playing career. At least in this case, we are talking about someone who has reached the age of 36 before calling it a day, rather than a youngster with plenty of potential who never gets that shot at the big time. Derby manager’s excited about Arsenal starlet – can he kickstart the Rams’ season?

by stresster on August 20th, 2008 4 comments
  • Digg

It’s not been much fun supporting Derby County in the past twelve months. After gaining promotion to the Premier League, the Rams were humiliated on several occasions, showing a remarkable ineptitude under Billy Davies and Paul Jewell. Many claim that the latter’s job is on the line following an ordinary start to their Championship campaign, although at least it appears as though Arsenal are giving him a helping hand. How many games does Derby manager have left before he’s axed?

by stresster on August 11th, 2008 no comments
  • Digg

While Paul Jewell could do little about County’s relegation from the Premier League last season, it didn’t seem as though there was much improvement on Billy Davies’ record in the top flight. The former Wigan manager brought in plenty of new faces, but they couldn’t land him a win all season and it still appears as though he’s having problems getting his team to gel. THREE THINGS you learnt from the Championship this weekend?

by stresster on August 11th, 2008 3 comments
  • Digg

One game down, forty-five to go as far as the 24 teams in the Championship is concerned, but what did the opening weekend of fixtures tell us? Many regard Doncaster’s 1-0 win at Derby as the performance of the weekend, but that’s only working on the assumption that Rovers were playing League One football last term, while their opponents were in the top flight. Can Derby bounce back after their Premier League nightmare?

by stresster on August 8th, 2008 no comments
  • Digg

The Rams may be one of the favourites to be promoted from the Championship this season, although it’s possible that many of the Derby players will still be suffering from a hangover. That’s not because they’re heavy drinkers but more down the fact that County accrued just 11 points in the Premier League last season. Nevertheless, one man who’s backing them is their manager Paul Jewell, funny that! [Read the rest of this entry »]

Derby goalkeeper misses out on move to Tottenham – why did the plug get pulled?

by stresster on August 5th, 2008 7 comments
  • Digg

It’s easy to forget that the Rams had a brilliant season the last time they were in the Championship. Under Billy Davies, they made numerous comebacks to win games by a slender margin, eventually culminating in promotion through the play-offs. One of the key players in Derby’s successful campaign was their goalkeeper, and it looks like he’s staying put at Pride Park after Spurs pulled out of a deal to sign him. Fixture List Day! Which ONE game are you most looking forward to?

Arsenal begin the season by hosting West Brom, Liverpool travel to Sunderland, Tottenham make the long trip to Middlesbrough. Yes it’s fixture list day! You can spend the whole day debating possible debauched weekends up north or when your play your local rivals.

Do Derby want to return to the Premiership?

by jakepjohnson on June 12th, 2008 35 comments
  • Digg

Derby County Football Club. Remember them? They were the team that accepted relegation from the Premier League as a given by November. They were the team who conceded six goals at home. Twice.

Well it seems that Derby County don’t really have any intention of playing with the big boys any time soon. Well, thats the theme they seem to give off with the latest transfers and rumours flying in and around Pride Park.

First of all, the move to sign Nottingham Forest’s midfielder Kris Commons. A player who was playing League One football last season. Then they bid £2m for Swansea’s Dutch midfielder Ferrie Bodde. Another player who played in League One last season, and only scored 3 times. Then the BBC link Derby to Stockport’s Liam Dickinson, who scored 21 goals last season…. in League Two (he was even playing in the Unibond First Division 3 years ago!)

Now, finally, Derby annouce they’ve signed winger Steve Davies from Tranmere. Another one from a League One club.

With this influx of interest in lower league footballers, are Derby County quite happy to “slum it” in the Championship for the next few years? They certainly don’t really seem to be trying to bring in top class talent that will get them promoted. Granted, Bristol City got to the Play-Off final and 90 minutes away from the Premiership while spending £1m on a fresh-from-League-One Lee Trundle, but its not exactly a blueprint for success.

Does anyone else think Derby want to get back into the top league? Or are they embarrassed to show their faces up there again?
