Palace should start battening down the hatches ahead of the January transfer window if they want to keep their England Under-19 star, says the Daily Star.

Zaha has been attracting interest from a host of top flight clubs, including Liverpool and Newcastle United.

Derby County whizkid Mason Bennett is the latest teen to catch the eye of England’s biggest clubs.

The People says the 15 year-old attacker has Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool all following his progress.

The striker was named on the substitute’s bench for the Rams’ 3-2 Carling Cup defeat to Shrewsbury Town.

Clearly Kenny Dalglish and Liverpool’s American owners are planning for the future. The Merseyside club have brought in a number of youthful additions over the past 18 months and now the Anfield side is said to be readying total bids of around £8m for this up and coming pair.

Dalglish spent big money bringing in Jordan Henderson and Andy Carroll to Liverpool as well as Uruguayan defender Sebastian Coates and now the Scot has set his sights on two Championship players who have a great deal of potential.

18 year old attacker Wilfried Zaha has impressed many over the past season and a bit and is now a regular in Dougie Freedman’s Crystal Palace plans. The England Under 19 international has become an even more effective weapon this term, notching five goals and three assists in the opening dozen or so games this season.

The Ivory Coast born youngster can play either as a winger or as an orthodox striker and the teenager is reportedly being scouted by a number of Premier League sides and reportedly is also a Bayern Munich target.

Mason Bennett is just 15 but is already part of Nigel Clough’s first team picture and has shown incredible potential and has been capped at Under 17 level for England. The young striker is sure to be tempted by a move to Liverpool and apparently any bid for the youngster would involve the player being loaned straight back to the Pride Park club.

Nigel Clough Agrees New Contract At Derby County

Derby County have announced manager Nigel Clough, and his backroom staff, have all agreed new four-year deals to stay at the club.

Clough, whose father Brian led Derby to the English league title in 1972, has piloted them into fourth place in the table as they seek a return to the Premier League after being relegated in 2008.

He was recently linked with the vacancy at Nottingham Forest but the Englishman is required to pass certain coaching qualifications if he wants to move to a new club.

“We are all delighted that our futures have been sorted out and that we have the opportunity to continue the work of the last two-and-a-half years of trying to improve this club,” Clough told the club’s website.

“From day one we knew this was going to be a long-term project and it is still very much a work in progress.”

Clough took over at Derby in January 2009 after joining from Burton Albion, and has overseen a change in Derby’s fortunes this season after finishing 14th and 19th in the last two seasons.

Nigel Clough is ruled out of following in his father’s footsteps by becoming the new Nottingham Forest manager because he does not have the right qualifications.

The Derby County boss emerged as a fan favourite to replace Steve McClaren, who left last week, and return to the club where he played – and his dad Brian managed.

The 45-year-old only has a B licence, and under new regulations brought in last summer, Championship clubs can only appoint bosses with A or Pro licences.

The rule was brought in under instructions from the FA and is backed by the LMA bosses union and Forest cannot find a way around it.

Clough has not enrolled on any further courses and cannot move from Derby, where his contract runs out in the summer, according to the Daily Mirror.

It is understood the news came as a shock to the man himself, who must now get the qualifications if he wants to continue managing in the top divisions.

There is a drive to make all bosses in the higher divisions fully qualified because of complaints from coaches who have forked out for courses and then been overlooked.

Agent Fees On The Increase In English Football

Football League clubs paid a total of £16.7million in agent fees last season – an increase of £4million on the previous campaign.

While the amount paid to player’s representatives have grown, the number of transactions also rose by over 500 to 2,910. Of which, fees were paid to agents in 570 of them.

Championship clubs dominated the spending, making up £14.1million of the total, with League One paying out £2.3million and League Two taking up the remainder of the total amount.

All Championship clubs paid agents fees while Hartlepool were the only club in League One not to do so.

In League Two Accrington, Barnet, Cheltenham, Crewe, Macclesfield, Stevenage and Stockport did not pay any fees, and the number of deals made without agents rose from 1,996 to 2,340.

“These figures show that a considerable amount of money continues to leave the game through payments to agents,” Football League chairman Greg Clarke said:

“This highlights the importance of the work Football League clubs are doing to establish a ‘break even’ business model across all three divisions.

“No one is trying to prevent clubs from paying agents where they feel it is appropriate, but we must make sure clubs are not spending money they simply do not have.”
