David Beckham has decided not to join Paris Saint-Germain for family reasons, according to reports in France.

The former England captain, 36, had been widely linked with a move to the Qatari-owned French club but could now extend his spell in the United States with Los Angeles Galaxy.

“It’s over. It’s a shame,” PSG sporting director Leonardo told L’Equipe.

“But the welfare of his family in LA, the wish not not to change everything in his life, weighed heavily.”

Beckham has been weighing up his options since helping LA Galaxy win the MLS Cup with a 1-0 win over Houston Dynamo.

So it seems that after all the huffing and puffing, and a great deal of mindless speculation, David Beckham will actually be staying in the States to continue out his playing days with LA Galaxy. It’s clearly a decision he has thought long and hard over and it probably seemed to that staying with his MLS side was the most sensible decision for the midfielder to take.

Having helped his side to a MLS Cup Final triumph in his last campaign and having seen the Galaxy sign Robbie Keane, perhaps Beckham felt he could continue to serve his side well whilst also not unsettling his family life.

David Beckham will decide to join Paris Saint Germain or stay with Los Angeles Galaxy when he returns from the latter club’s post-season tour in December.

Beckham has also had interest from a club in Italy and one in Brazil, but will consider only France and the US.

Reports that the 36-year-old midfielder has already agreed to sign for PSG are understood to be premature.

If he moves to Paris, it is understood his wife Victoria and four children will go with him.

Slightly odd last line from the BBC on this one. It would seem fairly sensible that David Beckham would bring his wife and kids with his to Paris and not just bugger off and leave them in LA.

It’s very much coming up to decision time for the 36 year old, who has seemingly opted against a move back to England and at present a move to PSG is reportedly the most likely destination for the midfielder.

David Beckham is on the verge of signing for Paris Saint-Germain after being offered an 18-month contract worth a staggering £11.6million.
Beckham has been handpicked by PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi as part of his strategy to turn the French club into a football superpower.
On Thursday Al-Khelaifi admitted that the decision for Beckham was ‘between Tottenham and PSG’, but it is understood the deal has since moved on in favour of a switch to France.

Money is no object for their Qatari owners and they are convinced Beckham is about to sign the deal to join the Ligue 1 leaders in January. Spurs cannot compete with the salary being offered to Beckham and there are no guarantees he will play a significant role for Harry Redknapp’s team.

Clearly David Beckham is a millionaire many times over but nonetheless an offer of this magnitude may well push the England international towards a decision to relocate to Paris over a move to London. The former Man United man has stated that he couldn’t imagine returning to the Premier League and therefore a deal to bring him to the Parc des Princes seems the most likely one for the LA Galaxy man.

Clearly PSG are aware of the financial benefits of bringing in a player of Beckham’s gravitas and the money the Ligue 1 side stands to make from shirt sales alone probably more than covers the 36 year old’s salary.

David Beckham has said he does not see himself playing for an English club if he returns to European football.

The former Manchester United player’s contract with Los Angeles Galaxy runs out at the end of December.

Beckham, recently linked with Paris St Germain, is now weighing up his options and told BBC Radio 1 he has received interest from two “big European clubs”.

“I played for the biggest club in England and couldn’t see myself playing in another English shirt,” he said.

“I’ve got options, which is amazing at my age,” he added. “A couple of big European clubs are after me.

“I have a decision to make and I haven’t made it yet.”

So this is bad news for the likes of QPR and Tottenham, who have both been heavily linked with the 36 year old LA Galaxy man.

Former England captain David Beckham has called Sepp Blatter’s comments on racism “appalling”.

Blatter, 75, appeared to suggest on Wednesday that racial discrimination could be settled with a handshake.

“I think the comments were appalling,” said Beckham. “A lot of people have said that.

“I don’t think the comments were very good for this game. [Racism] can’t be swept under the carpet and it can’t be sorted out with just a handshake.”
