Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has expressed his delight at securing the signing of Danish striker Nicklas Helenius, ESPN reports.

The 22-year-old is a 6 foot 5 target man, and has impressed with his goal-scoring record in the Danish league with former side Aalborg, at one point attracting interest from the likes of Arsenal.

Helenius has joined Villa for just £2million, and looks like a good prospect to make a big name for himself in English football, much like Christian Benteke did in 2012/13.

The little-known Belgian arrived for £7million from Genk, and is now being coveted by some of Europe's biggest clubs after an excellent first season in the Premier League.

Lambert showed a good eye for discovering talent on that occasion, and believes he has pulled off another good deal with Helenius.

"Nicklas is a young lad but also a full international with a good goalscoring record in Denmark and he'll prove himself in the Premier League," Lambert said.

"The opportunity will be there for him, as it will be for the rest of the lads and he has all the attributes to go and take it. He wants to go and make a name and a career for himself and he's made a good start at Aalborg. It's a case of continuing to work hard and building on that and I believe he can."

Villa have been busy in this summer's transfer window, and may be preparing for the exit of Benteke, as the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool are reportedly willing to offer over £20million for the 22-year-old.

Lambert's side struggled against relegation this season, but will be hoping to improve their squad and aim for higher next year.

Ajax defender Alderweireld has been linked strongly with a move to Anfield for much of the summer, though his agent has reported that positive talks have taken place with Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen over a move. Rodgers is keen to land another defender this summer following the retirement of Jamie Carragher, and may see Kolo Toure, who joined on a free transfer from Manchester City, as more of a backup player than a regular starter.

And finally, Liverpool will go all out for in-demand Aston Villa striker Benteke. The 22-year-old has had a fantastic first season in English football, scoring 23 goals in all competitions, including 19 in the league to help Villa avoid relegation. His fine form has attracted interest from a host of Europe's top clubs, including Arsenal, Tottenham, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, but Liverpool are desperate to sign a top striker to replace Real Madrid target Luis Suarez. He has reportedly refused to sign a new contract at Villa Park and would be open to offers to move a top side.

The Uruguayan star has also had something of a breakthrough season in the Premier League, and has expressed an interest in leaving for a move to a bigger club, as he is concerned by the lack of Champions League football and significant challenge for silverware at Anfield.

The 26-year-old's sale could fetch the club around £50million, which could prove significant in the chase for Benteke, as they may have the financial advantage over other interested parties, with Villa said to be holding out for close to £30million for the former Genk forward. However, Liverpool could also look to sweeten the deal by offering former Villa winger Stewart Downing in return as part of a swap deal.

New Aston Villa signing Jores Okore certainly made an impression on his first day with the club when he fell asleep during his medical with the West Midlands club, the Daily Mail reports.

The 20-year-old put pen to paper on a £4 million deal last week after Villa boss was attracted to his coolness under pressure - but now he must be worrying that the Dane is a little too cool!

Okore was taken to a private clinic that the club uses to put prospective new signings through the medical routine to undergo an MRI scan, which the  player saw as a chance to get in a quick cat nap and not even the presence of the club's media staff was enough to keep him awake.

"I just wanted to get the MRI scan done quickly. Boy was I wrong," he said.

"I was placed in the scanner and started a two-hour session. I have to remain completely quiet.

"I'm listening to the radio and I'm wondering what it will be like. How my new life in Birmingham will be.

"Will I speak English with a British twang?

"But I dozed off after half-an-hour and woke up an hour later.

"I just thought to myself: "S**t, this is taking a decade.

"I started to feel a bit on edge but fortunately for me, the MRI scan was fine."

Aston Villa will complete the transfer of striker Nicklas Helenius from Aalborg this week, Sky Sports reports.

The 22-year-old is in Birmingham for a medical following the two club's agreeing a fee and the Danish international agreeing contract terms with manager Paul Lambert.

Helenius risked the wrath of Aalborg after he travelled to the West Midlands despite no deal being in place at the time, however, with everything now in place Villa expect to announce his signing within the next 24 hours.

While the Toon have denied the reports, it's clear the mega-rich Ligue 1 outfit want the France international and it's hard to see cash-loving food-eater Mike Ashley turning down a huge bid.
