Liverpool Football Club

Founded in 1892, Liverpool Football Club is a professional football club based in Liverpool, England. Which plays in the Premier League and is one of the most successful in the history of English football, winning more trophies than any other English club. Liverpool has won a joint-record eighteen league titles, seven FA Cups, seven League Cups, three UEFA Cups and five European Cups, an English record.

Manager

Responsibilities:

• Report to Incompetent American owners who will in time(roughly 6 months after they have fought it out amongst themselves) give you an answer to the most simplistic questions.

• Responsible for the football team management.

• Supervise and ensure a quality youth setup.

• Player transfers (In & Out).

• Win The Premier League, Carling Cup, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA European Super Cup, UEFA Europa League, World Club Cup and The Charity Shield in the first time of asking.

Requirements:

• A degree in Motivational skills – Tactical knowledge is not necessary. A bad first half is no problem, as long as the team plays better in the second half, it shows you are bound for greatness.

• You must have a Masters or be a Master magician when it comes to finance, funds are not available. Club policy is sell to buy, however, re-signing contracts is calculated into the transfer budgets.

• Knowledge of Continental football and English Football

• Mind reader – Able to read the minds of a small group of supporters who think they are the next “Jose Mourinho”. Injuries are not taken into account.

• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Internet applications – This is necessary to search up your next team selection… If you don’t, the consequences are that you will be forced out of the club and will have to settle with Managing Juventus or Real Madrid.

• Must win all competitions that you should participate in… Winning 4 Trophies, 6 finals and 3 runners up awards is not good enough… For further information please contact Rafael Benitez at Rafa@Liverpool,Madrid,Turin?.com

• You must obtain a +60% win ratio. For example, If you obtain 58%, the small group of supporters will be calling for your head like in the witch hunt era, 60% is legendary status… For further explanation please contact Rafael Benitez and Kenny Dalglish.

• You must be a trained physician – Star Trek style – Some fans think that footballers are bionic, government weapons… This will avoid too much internet browsing.

• You must play youth players even if they are injured or not ready for first team football – This will become evident when you browse the internet for your team selection.

Salary:
• Preferably volunteer work – Sacking the current manager will cost us 14 million pounds. When the new stadium is built you can ask for a pay rise… Completion is supposed to be in June 2011, but works still haven’t begun.

Preference:
• Martin O’neil – Must take lessons in how to handle foreign, world class players and learn to win in the Month of March… Also how to build a football club without spending nearly 100 million on average English players.. Yes Martin, some of us know.

• Marco Van Basten – Steve Mclaren can do a good job in Holland, why couldn’t you? Don’t worry I won’t tell many people that you are so incompetent that you make our “umbrella” former National Coach look pretty damn good.

• Guus Hiddink – Must seek approval from Ivory Coast and Chelsea before applying. And no, this isn’t a “damage limitation” job, we expect you to take the club forward… Back to school before you apply.

• Jurgen Klinsmann – Must take football management course, what you did with Germany during a world cup was half impressive, if the tournament would have been held outside of Germany it would have been a success, unfortunately that wasn’t the case… Don’t worry we won’t be calling Bayern Munich for your managerial profile, you’re safe.

• Roberto Mancini – Please note before you apply that in England your main competitors will not be banned or receive point deductions, enabling you to win everything you have ever won in their absence.

• Jose Mourinho – If you ask Real Madrid really, really, really nicely to pay us compensation for our manager, we could maybe work something out.

*applicants please forward your CV Tom & Gerry, shortlisted applicants will be contacted hopefully before 2012*

Rafa Benitez’s Liverpool side romped home past doomed Portsmouth at Anfield. Goals from Fernando Torres, Ryan Babel and Alberto Aquilani’s first for the club put the home side 3-0 up inside the first thirty minutes and looked like they would go on a scoring spree.

Luckily for Pompey Liverpool took their foot of the gas and only managed one more goal, Torres scoring his second. Belhadj scored a consolation goal in the dying minutes.

The win puts Liverpool back in the Champions League hunt and Rafa will hope that the convincing nature of the win will appease the fans and stifle speculation about his future as Anfield boss.

Liverpool have received a £118.5m investment bid from private equity firm Rhone Group, according to reports.
American co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett are obliged to reduce the club’s £237m debt with Royal Bank of Scotland by £100m by this summer.
The deal would make the New York-based group the largest shareholder with 40%, Hicks and Gillett each falling to 30%.
The Press Association report added that the bid, tabled on Saturday, has yet to be discussed at board level.
If a bid were to materialise it would be the first positive result of Anfield chief executive Christian Purslow’s search for new investors ahead of the bank deadline.

Aside from slashing the club’s debt in half, the group’s funds would also improve the club’s credit-worthiness, which in turn would make Liverpool more attractive for further outside investment.
Hicks and Gillett took control of Liverpool in February 2007, each taking a 50% stake.
However, their reign has proven unpopular with Reds fans, with the debt burden they have placed on the club and the delayed construction of the proposed new stadium at Stanley Park coming in for particular criticism.
Founded in 1996, the Rhone Group is owned and managed by financiers Robert Agostinelli and Steven Langman.
The company describes itself as “one of the world’s leading mid-market private equity firms”, and has its headquarters in New York with other offices in London and Paris. (BBC Sport)

There is obviously a danger of assuming that anyone would be better than the two fools who currently run the club, and lets face it things couldn’t get much worse, but at the same time we have to be very careful about what we wish for.

There were some interested investors from the Far East and Middle East but they came to nought and there is still a lot of doubt over whether Hicks and Gillett would accept any bid anyway, they may prefer to be in total control even though to do so would seemingly only end in tears (both for us as a club and them as money men).

Anfield stands on a precipice at the moment both on and off the field of play and this summer will be a critical period for the club. Will Rafa leave? Will the club make it into the Champions League? Will we keep hold of our big names if we do NOT secure a top four place.

Anything could happen to be honest. The club should have gone onwards after the successes of last season but instead we took one huge step backwards and we must regroup as a team and club and try to finish the season on a high.

Lets face it if we do not beat Portsmouth tonight Rafa will walk. However surely we couldn’t lose to Pompey….oops thats what I said at Fratton Park.

Stephen Ireland is a target for Liverpool – but the Manchester City midfielder’s chances of a move to Anfield could hinge on Rafa Benitez’s future on Merseyside.

Ireland, the City fans’ player of the year last season, has suffered a wretched dip in form under Mark Hughes and Roberto Mancini.

Manchester United were also monitoring Ireland’s situation at Eastlands, but have been deterred by the Irishman’s failure to maintain his progress at City.

They were also aware that City were unlikely to contemplate agreeing a transfer deal with their bitter rivals.

That paved the way for Liverpool to move in with a bid at the end of the season.

One of Ireland’s best performances this season was when he scored at Anfield in a 2-2 draw. And Liverpool have been made aware that Mancini would not block Ireland’s departure.

Benitez was hoping to get the go-ahead to make an opening offer of £8million. (Daily Mirror)

Roberto Mancini won’t have been too pleased with recent average showings from Manchester City man Stephen Ireland and talk of a move to Anfield may be more than just mindless speculation but could Liverpool really net the talented Irish playmaker for just £8m?

Rafa Benitez would dearly love some more creativity from his central midfield area and 23 year old on his day can be a match winner who has the fans on the edge of their collective seats. With new additions reportedly on their way to Eastlands this summer it could be that Mancini sees Ireland as a dispensable asset but may think twice about selling such a gifted player to a team that will be battling for the same Champions League spots as themselves.

There is also the small amount of lack of cash at Anfield. If Rafa wanted to make a concerted move for the Man City man, and he is reportedly a big admirer, then he will have to sell one or two players to finance the move. The likes of Ryan Babel and Albert Rieira seem eminently salable and if the Merseyside boss can make cash from such sales he would be well advised to test the water with a bid for Stephen Ireland.

Real Madrid have made Steven Gerrard their No.1 transfer target – and believe they can land the Kop superstar for £30million.

Spanish giants Real have been plunged into shock by their Champions League last-16 defeat by Lyon and see Gerrard as the man to make them tick.

Their pursuit of the England star will rock Liverpool fans, who now face the nightmare scenario of losing their talisman AND star striker Fernando Torres.

For Spaniard Torres last night refused to commit his future to the Anfield club before demanding that boss Rafa Benitez sign FIVE new players in the summer.

A year ago Real would have had little chance of prising Gerrard away from Merseyside but Liverpool’s season is in tatters and they are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League next term.

He signed a four-year £140,000-a-week contract only last summer but will now be tempted to join ex-Kop team-mate Xabi Alonso at the Bernabeu, where he has long been admired by fans and officials alike.

Real president Florentino Perez – instigator of the club’s Galactico policy – splashed out £200m last summer on Alonso, Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo and after the Champions League exit has signalled he is ready to spend big again…with Gerrard top priority.

News of Real’s interest will also put question marks over the Anfield future of Torres, who has warned Liverpool they need to spend big or face another season of disappointment.

He said: “If we don’t sign new players, what’s the point of finishing fourth only to fight for fourth again? “I want to fight to win the Champions League and the Premier League. We need four or five players of the highest level if we are to compete. They have to be better than what we’ve got.”

Those words are the clearest indication yet that Torres is becoming disillusioned with life on Merseyside .

He said: “I am very happy here and people have treated me like I’m one of them but I’m going to think about my future. I hope it’s here – these fans deserve success.

“I owe this club a lot and I’m proud to form part of its history. In a few years I don’t know how many clubs I’ll have played for but I’m sure one of the ones I’ll be most proud of is Liverpool.” (The People)

Clearly it would be unwise to believe every single report circulating about a potential nightmare scenario of Liverpool losing Anfield heroes Steven Gerrard AND Fernando Torres, but is there any chance either could really leave the club this summer?

The quote from El Nino is a tad worrying though surely.

“In a few years I don’t know how many clubs I’ll have played for”

Clearly the intimation is that the former Atletico Madrid man could well consider leaving the Merseyside outfit. Rafa Benitez is surely set to leave the club in the summer, especially if he doesn’t secure the guaranteed top four spot he promised and surely Liverpool fans are getting increasingly annoyed at the manner his side seem to perform.

The latest two run outs, at Wigan and Lille, showed a team with very little grit or ability and perhaps more worryingly there seemed to be a distinct lack of spirit shown by those Rafa had picked. Could it all be getting too much for the likes of Gerrard and Torres who may feel the burden of expectation getting too much for them.

So could Real Madrid be a real possibility for either star player? Well Fernando Torres played for their city rivals but many players have ran out for both sides and the rivalry between Atletico and Real is not in the same league as the one between Barcelona and the Bernabeu side.

Personally I don’t see either player leaving in the summer but can you imagine if the Anfield side failed to quality for the Champions League next term and then they start next term in a similar manner to this one, can any Liverpool fan put his hand on his heart and say he honestly wouldn’t be worried about either of their prized assets thinking twice about staying put?

Its a move that has been spoke about for the best part of three years but now more than ever is the right time to be thinking of making David Silva an offer he can’t refuse. Rafa Benitez is hanging on by his fingernails at Anfield and if he does manage to secure Champions League football next season and in doing so remain in his post as Liverpool boss then he should do all he can to scrape together enough cash to snap up the Valencia playmaker.

For to long now the Merseyside outfit has had a problem with creativity in their midfield. To much onus has been placed on Steven Gerrard to make things happen and the pressure on the Liverpool captain is all to obvious. Yossi Benayoun offers another option to link midfield to attack but the Israeli is a player who Rafa Benitez doesn’t appear to value too highly and Silva would be an option in a different league to the former West Ham man.

The arrival of Alberto Aquilani hasn’t really worked and whether that is because he wasn’t the right player or whether he hasn’t been given enough of a chance to prove himself the club still has the same issue to resolve. There is a distinct lack of natural width at the club and those who are out and out wingers have never really done enough to justify their continued employment at the club.

Ryan Babel and Albert Riera are possibly two of the most infuriating players to watch in the Premier League. Both players have undoubted skill and ability but they both consistently make the wrong decisions and flatter to deceive far too often. Neither player has really delivered during their time at Anfield and if Benitez can sell one or indeed both, then he will at least have some more cash to play with.

Valencia will almost certainly have to offload one or all of their attacking trio, David Villa, David Silva and Juan Mata, in order to stave of a financial crisis that threatens to engulf the club. David Silva has already made pleasing noises about a potential move to Liverpool and the fact the club has so many of his international teammates obviously helps matters.

I think the player himself would be very keen on such a move and there is nothing to be lost by registering an interest and if possible making a bid and this summer is the time to do it.

Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has lost his billionaire status, according to Forbes magazine’s latest rich list.

However, the Texan businessman was still ranked 701st richest man in the world, with an estimated fortune of around 950 million US dollars (£620million).

The American – who also owns the Dallas Stars ice hockey franchise – has already agreed a deal to sell the Texas Rangers baseball team for £310million but appears in no hurry to offload his 50% share in Liverpool, despite pressure from disillusioned fans against the way he and co-owner George Gillett have run the club.

“We all know about his problems with his sports clubs here in the US and over there in England,” Forbes senior editor Matthew Miller told the Liverpool Echo.

“He has had some debt problems. He has only just missed the cut (to be classed as a billionaire). We think he is a 900million to 950million US dollars guy.”

Hicks and Gillett owe Royal Bank of Scotland £237million and have been unable to raise the money needed to build the club’s proposed stadium at Stanley Park.

They looking to raise £100million through outside investment by the summer as RBS have requested they slash the amount of their debt. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)

So there you have it Tom Hicks, or one half of the chuckle brother like team who run Liverpool Football Club, is now having to deal with only a small fortune. With any luck the rest of his financial empire will fail leaving the American no choice but to make a swift exit from the Premier League club.

Real Madrid have made Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez the prime candidate to take over the reins of the club during the summer, according to The Sun.

The Spanish giants bowed out of the Champions League in the first knockout round for the sixth consecutive season, and the lack of success on the European stage will reportedly see current coach Manuel Pellegrini forced out of the club when the curtain comes down on this term.

The president of the White House, Florentino Perez, is consequently believed to have made Benitez the first-choice target for the summer, with Inter boss Jose Mourinho and Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti also believed to be among the names being discussed if the Spaniard decides not to join the Madrid-based club.

An unnamed Real source is quoted as saying: “Rafa is the preferred choice. He is a Madrid man and his agent, Manuel Garcia Quillon, has an excellent relationship with the club.

“Above all, though, his record in Europe is exceptional. The club want to return where they believe they belong – to be the No.1 team in Europe again. They believe Rafa is the man to make that happen.”

Benitez used to be a coach at Real’s academy, and has in the past indicated that he would like to return to Madrid someday. (Goal.com)

OK, so hands up who would be devastated if Rafa Benitez decided to up sticks and leave Anfield for the Bernabeu. OK, not a lot of hands there. Who still thinks that the Spaniard is the right man for the Liverpool managerial post, ok so a few more hands there but not exactly a strong show of faith in our current boss.

In many ways Rafa has already put pen to paper on his Liverpool death warrant. He has stated publicly that he ‘guarantees’ a top four finish and I think he will walk if we fail to secure a Champions League spot, even if it would mean losing a shed load of cash that he would have gained if he were sacked.

After the poor showing at Wigan and then the distinctly average performance away at Lille dark clouds have reappeared above Benitez’s head and just when it looked like things were getting better for the man at the Anfield helm, things have got very uncomfortable again.

After the Portsmouth debacle we went on a good run and were battling for victories and even though we lost at the Emirates we looked decent but these latest two performances have once again shown just how inconsistent we can be. We have now lost a total of 15 games this season in all competitions. 15! I mean that is atrocious at the best of times but given that this season was supposed to be ‘our year’ its even worse.

If Real Madrid do sack Manuel Pellegrini, and that would be a mighty unfair decision given that Real Madrid are top of La Liga and have won 20 out of 25 games in the domestic league and are a damned exciting team to watch when they are on song, would they really turn to Rafa Benitez as a potential replacement? Jose Mourinho has been highlighted as a potential successor but given his Barcelona roots that move seems highly unlikely.

What are the chances that Benitez ends up back at Valencia this summer?
