Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is reportedly ready to complete a move to Liverpool according to Goal.com.

The Bosnian stopper has put in a number of highly impressive performances over the last few seasons and is widely respected as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

The likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham were all thought to be showing an interest in the player.

But it appears that Liverpool have stolen a march on their rivals and are ready to bring the player to Anfield.

It is thought that the departure of Tony Pulis added to Begovic’s desire to leave the Brittania Stadium and the 25 year old has seemingly revealed his exit after giving an interview in his native Bosnia.

“I want to start preparing on July 10, with all the players of Liverpool,’ said Begovic.

Begovic’s arrival is likely to raise questions over the future of their current number Pepe Reina. There has been constant speculation over the Spanish goalkeeper’s future in recent months as he has been regularly linked with a move to Barcelona as replacement for the outgoing Victor Valdes.

The 21-year-old Borussia Monchengladbach man is one of the most highly rated young goalkeepers in the world, and Arsenal are determined to land him next season as they look for a replacement for Wojciech Szczesny,

Axed boss Tony Pulis has spoken of his disappointment at having been sacked as Stoke City manager, but in turn also stated he understood chairman Peter Coates' reasons for wanting to take the club in a different direction.

Pulis, 55, left Stoke by mutual consent late on Tuesday after two spells in charge totaling 10 years, either side of a one-season stint with Plymouth Argyle in 2005-06.

Despite occasional criticism for the physical approach adopted by his side, Pulis turned Stoke into a solid mid-table team following their promotion from the Championship in 2008.

However, he accepted Coates' desire to bring in a new manager.

"I have enjoyed some wonderful times at Stoke City and nobody was prouder than me when, after 23 years of exile from top-flight football we gained Premier League status," Pulis said in a statement released by the League Managers' Association.

"Over the past five years we have created history by being the only team in this club's 150 years' existence to remain out of the bottom six in top-flight football for five consecutive seasons.

"Within our five-year period in the Premier League, we have featured in four major cup quarter-finals, an FA Cup semi-final and final.

"Further, we have encountered, progressed and reached the later stages of a major European cup competition, only to lose out to Spanish giants Valencia (in the 2011-12 Europa League).

"Peter, his family and I have enjoyed every inch of the journey; he has been truly a fantastic man to work with.

"Although I am disappointed, I do understand what he means when he says the board feels a need to take the club in a different direction."

Pulis said he was leaving the club in a much more healthy position than when he arrived in 2006 and added that he was "very proud of what we have all achieved".

He also thanked his backroom staff, describing them as "absolutely wonderful", and gave thanks to the club's fans and players for what he called a "wonderful adventure".

Coates paid tribute to Pulis, saying: "The last seven years have been some of the best in our long history and I would like to thank Tony for his huge contribution in this.

"I personally regard him as a great friend and will hugely miss working with him."

He added: "We will now begin the difficult task of searching for a successor to Tony. This will be done in private and the club will make no further statement in respect of this search until an appointment is made."

Liverpool have reportedly beaten Arsenal in the race to sign Stoke City's highly rated keeper Asmir Begovic according to well respected Bosnian source Dnevni Avaz.

There has been much speculation about Begovic's Britannia Stadium future after Tony Pulis elected to sign England international youngster Jack Butland from Birmingham City in January.

With Pulis having now left the Potters there is perhaps even more likelihood that the former Portsmouth man would be ready to leave Stoke City and he is seemingly seen as a potential replacement for Liverpool custodian Pepe Reina, who has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Anfield.

25 year old Bosnian international Begovic has impressed many with his displays at Stoke City in recent seasons and last term the talented keeper kept 12 clean sheets, the fourth highest total in the Premier League, this despite the fact that his side have been flirting with relegation.
