Everton have completed the signing of Nikica Jelavic from Rangers.

The 26-year-old striker joins the Blues on a four-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Jelavic completed a medical and agreed personal terms at Everton’s Finch Farm training base on Tuesday before putting pen to paper on his new contract at Goodison Park.

He becomes David Moyes’ third signing of the January transfer window, following deals for Landon Donovan and Darron Gibson.

Scottish champions Rangers have made a deadline day bid for Norwich City captain Grant Holt, Sky Sports understands.

Gers boss Ally McCoist has seen leading marksman Nikica Jelavic agree a deal with Everton, and he will complete his move to Merseyside on Tuesday.

McCoist has made Holt his number one target and is now hoping some of the Jelavic money will be used to lure him to Glasgow.

Grant Holt has taken to life in the English top tier incredibly well, after a career in the lower leagues the 30 year old Canaries striker has struck seven Premier League goals in 11 starts and has now attracted the attention of SPL giants Rangers.

It may well be a move that the former Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday man has to think long and hard about and Ally McCoist, who seems likely to lose Nikica Jelavic, may well see the big old fashioned forward as the man to fill the breach.

Canaries fans would greatly miss Holt who has become something of a cult hero at Carrow Road, helping the East Anglia based side to back to back promotions and scoring 62 goals in 102 starts in the process.

Everton and Rangers have struck a deal for the transfer of striker Nikica Jelavic, according to Sky Sports sources.

The Croatian striker has been linked with a host of clubs this month following a series of impressive performances in the SPL during the first half of the season.

Ally McCoist has made it clear that he would prefer to keep Jelavic but the level of interest has been so great that it looks as though Gers may have been able to agree what they believe to be a good deal.

David Moyes dodged questions about his interest in the 26-year-old on Monday after it emerged that Everton had lodged a bid over the weekend.

It is now understood that the two clubs have reached an agreement over a fee, with the Toffees able to spend some money following the sale of Diniyar Bilyaletdinov to Spartak Moscow.

David Moyes may well have done a great bit of business here. Whilst it’s true that scoring goals aplenty in the SPL doesn’t necessarily equate to being able to do so in a ‘bigger’ league, Nikica Jelavic appears to have the ability to make it South of the Border and a number of prospective suitors must have also been tracking the Rangers man.

The 26 year old has netted 17 goals this season and would perhaps have been more amenable to sticking with his Glasgow side if they hadn’t lost the upper hand to a Celtic side who have recently completed their 12th straight win. However with the Euro 2012 finals around the corner Jelavic may have felt that a high profile Premier League move would help secure a regular spot in Slaven Bilic’s starting eleven.

Everton has struggled for goals, a problem highlighted by the fact that one of the club’s joint top scorers, with three goals, is left back Leighton Baines. Louis Saha and Tim Cahill have just one goal apiece so Moyes will look to Jelavic to hit the ground running as he looks to push his Toffees side towards the top six.

Everton manager David Moyes is set to sign a striker this window, but is still deciding which of two he hopes to bring to Goodison Park.

A bid has been lodged with Rangers for around £6m for their Croatian forward Nikica Jelavic, who has scored a quite credible 30 goals in 45 appearances for the Ibrox side.

Press Association Sport also state that Everton have sounded out Wolverhampton Wanderers about taking their Republic of Ireland striker Kevin Doyle to Merseyside.

Doyle has played impressively for Wolves since signing for around £6.5m in the summer of 2009, but has recently lost his place in the team to Steven Fletcher up front.

Fletcher has scored nine Premier League goals in 16 appearances so far this season, and understandably that makes him difficult to drop.

Doyle has been less prolific than Jelavic has in the last couple of years, notching sixteen goals in 79 appearances for Wolves, but his tireless work ethic and link play make him an asset up front.

However, the Irishman also turns 29 this season, and is a less long term investment prospect than Jelavic.

The difficulty with signing Jelavic though is that he has no Premier League experience, and being a prolific goalscorer in the Scottish Premier League unfortunately doesn’t make a surefire success in the English top flight.

David Moyes knows he can’t get this decision wrong.

Everton don’t have the transfer funds to fix any error.

EVERTON are increasingly hopeful of clinching a deal for Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic after David Moyes moved to bolster his forward line.
An initial bid was lodged yesterday using the proceeds of Diniyar Bilyaletdinov’s £5million move to Spartak Moscow, but Everton are likely to go to about £6m including add-ons. Jelavic, 26, has told Rangers’ boss Ally McCoist he wants to move to Goodison Park and solve Moyes’ painstaking search for reinforcements that has seen him check on the likes of Wolves’ Kevin Doyle.

This could prove something of a pivotal signing for David Moyes as he looks to pull his Merseyside outfit nearer the top six than the relegation zone. Having sold Diniyar Bilyaletdinov to Spartak Moscow the Toffees boss appears to have the funds to make a decent offer for Croatian international Jelavic and Ally McCost saw his Rangers side win 4-0 against Hibernian on the weekend without the use of his top scorer.

The 26 year old former Rapid Vienna man has struck 17 goals thus far this season and notched up 19 in his first season at Rangers, during which time he helped his Glasgow side to a SPL title. However McCoist has admitted publicly that the striker had been pushing for a move South of the Border and that appears to be growing increasingly likely.

Everton have struggled for goals this season, with the club’s top scorer being full back Leighton Baines. Aussie Tim Cahill, usually a reliable source of firepower, has managed just one goal this season and Louis Saha has also managed just one goal in 18 Premier League appearances this season, therefore Moyes clearly felt the need to pursue a new striker signing this month.

West Ham have offered £7m for Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic, BBC Scotland has learned.

The English Championship leaders have been in negotiations with the Ibrox club for more than a week.

Rangers though, believe the 26-year-old is worth more and could hold out in the hope of an improved bid from elsewhere before the transfer closes next week.

Manager Ally McCoist wants any deal concluded quickly so that he has time to find a replacement.

This is a fairly ambitious move for the Championship leaders to make but by all accounts Ally McCoist expects more for his star striker but are the East London side willing and able to up their bid?

The Daily Mail has reported that Nikica Jelavic’s father had claimed earlier in the week that a Liverpool move was a possibility and that his son would be very keen to complete a move to Anfield but as yet no offer has been forthcoming from the Merseyside club.

Jelavic has netted 17 goals thus far this season but has watched as his Rangers side have seen their big SPL lead clawed back by Celtic, who’s 12 straight wins puts them in pole position to take the title from their arch rivals, which may well act as an incentive to the Croatian international to seek a move South of the Border.

West Ham are top of the Championship but have notably scored less goals than fellow promotion contenders Southampton and Cardiff City and Sam Allardyce may feel that the signing of the 26 year old may help in their pursuit of an instant return to the top tier.

Sky Sports understands that a host of clubs have made enquiries for Bolton striker Kevin Davies.

The 34-year-old admitted earlier this month that he was facing an uncertain future.

Davies has slipped down the pecking order this season and is now spending much of his time on the bench, which has alerted other clubs to his possible availability.

And now Sky Sports understands that Sunderland, Wolves, West Brom are all monitoring his situation whilst Old Firm duo Celtic and Rangers are also keen.

Kevin Davies may well be considered an old fashioned battle-axe of a forward but he is damned effective at what he does and therefore it’s no real surprise that a host of clubs are looking to snap up the 34 year old, who appears to have become surplus to requirements at the Reebok Stadium under Owen Coyle.

The signing of David N’gog from Liverpool appears to have limited Coyle use of Davies as an attacking weapon, leaving the former Southampton and Blackburn Rovers man considering his options.

Davies has made over 350 appearances for the Trotters and notched up 74 goals in the process though this season he has been in and out of the first team and hasn’t started a Premier League match for over a month as N’Gog looks to have become a more favoured choice for the Bolton boss.

A move to Celtic or Rangers may well appeal to Davies as they could offer a shot at European football to the veteran forward.

LIVERPOOL have emerged as contenders to sign Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic, with the player’s father claiming that Anfield is his son’s preferred destination.

With just nine days remaining of the transfer window, the interest in the forward looks set to intensify this week. Ally McCoist confirmed yesterday that talks had taken place between Rangers chairman Craig Whyte and his West Ham United counterpart David Sullivan but the Ibrox manager insisted he was unaware of interest from any other clubs after the Croatian was also linked with Fulham and Queens Park Rangers.

McCoist said: “I spoke to Craig today and I believe Craig had a conversation with David Sullivan. But Craig was very keen to point out that absolutely no offers had been made at all. I think it was just a pretty informal chat they had.”

On speculation linking the player with other clubs south of the border, he added: “That’s news to me, I’ve certainly not been told. The only team where there has been an indication of interest is West Ham.”

Philip Jelavic said: “Yes, we know about the interest of West Ham, and Queens Park Rangers. But Nikica has five or six clubs interested, including that of the great Liverpool. As for West Ham and QPR, I think that Nikica is more ambitious than that. I think it’s most likely that he will sign for Liverpool. But there are still a few days until the end of the transfer window, so we will wait and see.”

This will come as good news to Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish as he looks to beef up his attacking options having seen his side net just 25 goals in 22 Premier League matches. With Luis Suarez still in the middle of his eight match ban and Andy Carroll continuing to struggle to find his feet at the club the need for reinforcements up front is self evident.

This source goes on to state that it would take an offer in excess of £6m to secure the 26 year old, who has been a veritable goal machine in the SPL. Thus far this season Jelavic has netted 17 goals and even though some would point at the average level of football North of the Border one could argue that the former Rapid Vienna can only show what he is capable of against the opposition placed in front of him.

Ally McCoist will be loathed to lose the Croatian international, not least as he has seen his Ibrox side lose a big lead at the top of the table as Celtic romp past their fellow Glasgow rivals, notching up 12 straight SPL wins.

Jelavic’s dad is fairly honest about his son’s interest in prospective moves to West Ham or QPR and whilst those moves could be considered less glamorous they would probably lead to regular first team football whilst a move to Liverpool would entail the Rangers man having to battle Carroll and Suarez for a spot in Dalglish’s starting eleven.

Dalglish may be more open to bringing in a supporting striker addition such as Jelavic over a ‘big name’ signing that could well shake the confidence of young England international Carroll, who has only netted six goals in 31 appearances for Liverpool in his first year at the club.

Liverpool are in pole position to sign Nikica Jelavic as English interest in the Croatia striker intensifies, BBC Scotland understands.

Premier League rivals Fulham and Championship outfit West Ham have been in contact about the 26-year-old.

Responding to interest from West Ham, Rangers boss Ally McCoist said: “They’ve not made an official bid.

“The reported amount would not be enough to meet the demands of the owner – £6m is not nearly enough.”

Liverpool could well do with an attacking addition this month as they continue to be without banned striker Luis Suarez and a move for Nikica Jelavic may well be a relatively inexpensive way to beef up the Anfield attack. The 26 year old Croatian international has been a big success since his move to Ibrox in August 2010, netting 36 goals in 54 appearances for the Glasgow side and helping Rangers to an SPL title in his first season at the club.

Kenny Dalglish has been unable to get the most out of £35m signing Andy Carroll, who has scored just six goals in 31 games in his first year at the club, and has on occasion turned to veterans Dirk Kuyt and Craig Bellamy for extra support but clearly neither the Dutch or Welshmen are long term solutions to the lack of firepower at the Merseyside club.

Thus far this season Liverpool have managed just 24 goals in 21 Premier League matches and struggle to break down opposition defences, especially at home where their opponents set their stall out to play ultra defensively, as evidenced in the recent encounter with Stoke City.

Jelavic may well have scored a great deal in Scotland but some may question his ability to find the back of the net in higher level leagues. After all the former Rapid Vienna man has struggled to score regularly whilst on national team duty, managing just two goals in 17 games for the Croatian side.
