The world of Premiership transfer rumours is full of nonsense, but some nonsense is more interesting that the other nonsense. Here’s our opinion on some of that more interesting nonsense… and if you have any thoughts, pop em in the comments.
Arjen Robben’s father has admitted his son would like to play for Barcelona one day.
CaughtOffside Says: Tottenham’s bid is undone by a club with an even stronger Dutch connection. Oh, and they’re a lot better.
Millwall are planning a bold move to bring back Teddy Sheringham on loan from West Ham.
CaughtOffside Says: Teddy is the world’s luckiest man. Danielle Lloyd on his arm and somehow people continue to pay him a professional footballer’s wage at age 72.
Celtic striker Kenny Miller is ready to return to England next season, with Everton leading the chase for the Scot.
CaughtOffside Says: James Beattie was a good start, Andy Johnson was even better, why Kenny Miller?
Everton and England striker Andy Johnson is keen to return to London as he is homesick.
CaughtOffside Says: Oh. [Ed: Andy just denied this, but whatever.]
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is ready to swoop for Athletic Bilbao’s promising young defender Mikel San Jose.
CaughtOffside Says: Rafa Benitez has a dream, that one day one of the legions of random young players he signs will turn out to be pretty good. We can’t say we’ve seen a lot of Mikel. We also can’t say that we’ve seen any of him. Or that we can even find him on FM2007.
Portsmouth have joined Manchester United, Aston Villa and Everton have joined the race to sign Wolves’ star Michael Kightly.
CaughtOffside Says: Seems to be one club out of place there, but Kightly is meant to be quite the wing wizard. Hopefully he’ll get his big move soon so we can start seeing “Kightly Taken Lightly” or “Kightly Feeling Sprightly”.
Middlesbrough keeper Mark Schwarzer is ready to turn down a move to Bayern Munich to stay at the Riverside.
CaughtOffside Says: In 10 years time, everyone will remember what they were doing when they read those words.
Preston North End chairman has claimed David Nugent will not join Rangers, leaving boyhood club Everton as front runners along with Aston Villa.
CaughtOffside Says: It’s hard to see whether Nugent is more style over substance, he’s scoring goals, really good goals, but so is Darren Huckerby. But promising English strikers are always exciting, and we think Everton might find money is more important than Gary Lineker bedsheets when Nugent decides his destination.
Aston Villa defender Jlloyd Samuel says he will wait until the summer until deciding whether to stay at Villa Park or try his luck elsewhere. The 25-year-old left-back has been heavily linked with Bolton Wanderers in recent times, he told Villa’s official club website: “There has been a lot of speculation linking me to Bolton recently, as well as Middlesbrough and Portsmouth.”
CaughtOffside Says: He’s 25!? Says a lot about how little Samuel has developed that he was still a ‘promising youth’ in our minds.
