Latest Transfer Rumours: Ferdinand, Robben, Ronaldo, Wright-Philips, Pique and Babich

The world of Premiership transfer rumours is full of nonsense, but some nonsense is more interesting that the other nonsense. Speculation is rife in the likes of the Mirror, Daily Mail, Times, Sun and… err… Tribal Football all do their best to predict and/or completely make up the future.

Here’s our opinion on the rumours we’ve read in the papers and around the net… and if you have any thoughts, pop em in the comments.

Glenn Roeder is looking into bringing West Ham’s Anton Ferdinand to St. James Park to shore up the backline, and Liverpool’s Peter Crouch to partner Owen or Martins up front.CaughtOffside Says: At some point Ferdinand and Bramble would have to play together, and hilarity will ensue. But Peter Crouch would be a nice foil to “Owenfemi” and ensure every match ends 4-3. Two thumbs up from us for both deals.

14 year old German goalie Lars Babich would rather play for Rangers than Chelsea regardless of any big money offer.

CaughtOffside Says: Supposedly the kid regards Scotland as his second home, and his family is making a good education the priority in his next club. We expect that to change when that 40K a week offer arrives in the mail.

Spanish rag AS believes Real Madrid are ready to make a world record 60 million bid to get Cristiano Ronaldo away from Old Trafford.

CaughtOffside Says: Almost certainly just some election-related propaganda, Ronaldo has been making all the noises that he’s staying with the Reds and there really is no footballing or monetary reason to bugger off just yet. He’s young, he’s not stupid, and he’ll stay for another couple years. The Glazers also aren’t stupid enough to accept the offer, losing their best player and pissing off their legendary manager and entire fanbase in the process.

With Cristiano Ronaldo seemingly set on staying with Manchester United, Barcelona will turn their attentions to Arjen Robben – who may have had enough of English football.

CaughtOffside Says: Robben is what people THINK Ronaldo is, a player who looks to go down first and keep running second. Still, he’s an incredible talent who has already said he wouldn’t hesitate to move elsewhere if things weren’t going as he’d like at Chelsea – with Barcelona’s popularity with the Dutch, we can see this one happening.

David Moyes is looking to add a bit of pace to his hardworking midfield, and Shaun Wright Philips could be available at around 10 million even though the winger has recently put in some good performances for Chelsea.

CaughtOffside Says: We really can’t see Mourinho giving up both Robben and SWP, but the latter is the more likely to leave even though he’s being given a chance these days – unless Jose wants to keep him just to stick it to everyone. Everton would be a great destination for Wright-Philips, a hard working midfield would take the load off him and he’d get plenty of matches to work himself back into the England fold. Mourinho could then sign someone he actually likes, and everyone wins.

Manchester United’s 20 year old defender Gerard Pique, currently impressing on loan at Real Zaragoza, would rather stay at the Spanish club than return to Old Trafford as a substitute.

CaughtOffside Says: Pique is a quality talent and has been immense for Zaragoza, but Ferdinand-Vidic isn’t going being broken up anytime soon. Another year’s loan at the Spanish club looks most likely to us.
