The world of Premiership transfer gossip is full of nonsense, but some nonsense is more interesting that the other nonsense. Speculation is rife in the likes of the Mirror, Daily Mail, Times, Sun and… err… Tribal Football all do their best to predict and/or completely make up the future.

Here’s our opinion on the Premiership transfer rumours we’ve read in the papers and around the net… and if you have any thoughts, pop em in the comments.


CaughtOffside Says: Interesting, would Ferguson be so petty as to sign a player just to trump their rivals? Yes, given what happened with Gabby Heinze, but somehow we doubt the Glazers would accept “Spite” as an acceptable reason to splash 12 mill.


Aston Villa are considering making a £15m bid for out-of-favour Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe.

CaughtOffside Says: How many times to Spurs fans have to tell people that he isn’t fourth choice, he’s a fourth striker. Probably about as many as Martin has to tell Jermain.


Villa have made an improved £8m bid for defender Curtis Davies but West Brom are holding out for £12m.

CaughtOffside Says: 12 million for a young defender who played pretty well one season. Now that’s good business.


Manchester City have offered Micah Richards a contract worth £10m to prevent him leaving.

CaughtOffside Says: If Richards didn’t leave when City were crap, we imagine he’ll be alright with sticking it out now that they’re the World’s Greatest Football Team ™.


Newcastle’s flop £9.5m striker Albert Luque is joining Ajax on a free transfer.

CaughtOffside Says: No real reason to add a joke to this one, just wanted to let folks know.


Sunderland have offered Andy Cole a one-year deal.

CaughtOffside Says: Will Roy Keane reunite Cole and Yorke as some kind of bizarre central midfield combo? Well if one 30+ striker in midfield can help you beat Tottenham, think what two will do.


Manchester City will snap up 31-year-old Benfica striker Nuno Gomes on a free transfer. (Mirror)

CaughtOffside Says: Smart bit of business by Sven, and continuing that whole “We want to try and buy English” thing he mentioned when he first arrived.


City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson is also considering a £7m move for Celta Vigo midfielder Borja Oubina.

CaughtOffside Says: No idea who he is, and paying 7 million just means he might have scored a goal once in today’s market.


West Ham striker Bobby Zamora is being targeted by Spanish club Real Betis.

CaughtOffside Says: They say a sign of success is which clubs come in to nick your players. So…
