Doth the lady protest too much? Avram Grant has reiterated that his Chelsea team are still capable of being free-scoring, despite the loss of Didier Drogba though injury and then the African Nations Cup in January. His side only managed a 0-0 draw with Valencia on Tuesday night – although they had qualified as group winners already.
“We’ve won games with Didier Drogba, but we’ve also won games without him.
“The match against Valencia was not important for qualification, so we wanted to play good football instead. We managed that and should have won 5-0.”
The Ivorian captain has nine goals to his name already this season, although it’s arguable as to whether Frank Lampard is just as crucial for the Blues as an attacking force. Not only does he provide more assists than Drogba from his midfield position, he’s also into double figures for the Blues after scoring a penalty against Sunderland.
