Picture the scene. You have just shelled out £6 million for a 24-year old French winger and he goes and knackers his achilles. Guttingly horrendous news at the time, but it now gives every journalist in the land the excuse to trot out the hackneyed cruddy phrase: “He’s as good as a new signing” and blather on about that for a paragraph or so. So, being inveterate copycats at CaughtOffside, we decided to do exactly the same.
That Julien Flaubert, he’ll be as good as a new signing, won’t he?
Setanta Sports reports that Flaubert, who hasn’t even played a competitive game for West Ham, is now back ‘running’ again – which is surely a good sign that things are going in the right direction. And what of the man himself? Flaubert said:
“It’s great to be back with my team-mates. It was important to recover in the right environment and it was a shame to pick up the injury so soon into my West Ham career. I am now focusing on getting back to full fitness.”
Ahhh, that Julien Flaubert, he’ll be as good as a new signing, won’t he?
