It appears that Michael Owen’s days in the Newcastle United treatment room could be numbered. In just a couple of months, the England striker could find himself instead befriending the Manchester City physio if reports in today’s Telegraph are to be believed.
Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce has already contacted Manchester City counterpart Sven-Goran Eriksson to sound out the Swede’s interest, with an £8m move rumoured to be on the cards.
If the moves go ahead, it will represent a pretty poor piece of business as far as the Magpies are concerned. Just 21 starts in two-and-a-half seasons, including numerous comebacks and setbacks, means that any club signing Owen are taking a huge risk that his fitness somehow approves as he enters the later stages of his career.
