Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is obviously so impressed with Avram Grant’s full-scale root-and-branch overhaul at Stamford Bridge that he has offered the revolutionary Israeli a shiny new four-year contract extension. The Evening Standard says the deal will double his wages from £1.5million-a-year to a more Kings Road-appropriate salary of £3m-a-year.
Chelsea ‘legend’ Kerry Dixon said:
“Chelsea have honoured their intentions because they always said Avram wasn’t going anywhere. He’s here to stay. Since he has taken over at Chelsea he has been quiet and assuming, yet the team has gone on a decent run under him. Not much is really heard about him. He’s not as flamboyant as Jose used to be and he generally keeps himself to himself.”
Surely no more than Grant deserves for inspiring the metamorphosis from world-beaters to slightly worse nearly-men.
